New Zealand: Over 35,000 Protesters Rally Over Maori Rights Bill | Firstpost America
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered outside New Zealand's Parliament in one of the largest rallies in the country's history. The demonstration opposes the Treaty Principles Bill, a controversial proposal to narrow interpretations of the Treaty of Waitangi, signed in 1840 between the British Crown and Maori community leaders. Critics argue the bill threatens to erase decades of progress on Maori rights and deepen racial divides. Chants of "Kill the bill!" echoed as demonstrators performed the Haka and presented a 203,653-signature petition. Last week, 22-year-old MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke made headlines by tearing up the bill in Parliament and performing Haka, sparking nationwide attention and fuelling the backlash.

35,000 were in the parliament grounds and outside were another 70,000+ walking up the street. I was near the front of the march and even I didn’t make it in the grounds I stood on a tree right near the grounds entrance watching the wave of black white and red go as far as I could see once I reached the entrance. Biggest gathering of Māori in my lifetime.

The Act Party welcome the noise and demonstrations etc against their proposed legislation (which they know has No chance of being passed into Law). The sole purpose of proposing this legislation is to raise their profile and try and get the attention of the traditional supporters (white/racist/uneducated) of New Zealand First and to a lesser extent National. Unfortunately the noise created by Maori politicians etc has aided Act in achieving this goal.

@@nigelwallace4374 Two different matters. This protest is about honouring the signed contract. A couple hundred men from 2 tribes (out of over 100 tribes) went and killed another tribe that was living in the chatham islands. Not good but common place all around the world since forever. At this point in our history, legal contracts mean something and Maori are fighting for that to be upheld.

@KiwiSeeknTheTruth
@KiwiSeeknTheTruth 2 ай бұрын
The whole reason why she was stood down is because she left her seat , and not only that etiquette is required in our parliamentary house especially when voting is taking place. And also it was ignorant to her male ancestors that she lead the haka , because in maori traditional culture the men lead the haka as it is a war dance performed before battle and after a victory . There are just some things in your culture that you should never change because that's why maori don't really have a clue where they came from , once they settled in nz with the people who already occupied nz they integrated with that tribe and way of life , then kilked a majority of the indigenous peoples claimed their land then the settlers arrived, British came to make nz a peaceful nation but unfortunately for them nz wasn't peaceful and perfect even though settlers and maori got along there were other tribes that were not peaceful an wanted the crowns protection, because French and American explorers were on their way to nz and thats why the treaty was signed by some cheifs but not all . And those cheifs that signed the treaty joined forces with British and confiscated lands from maori. Monica Matamua appeared before the Waitangi Tribunal in the 1990s. Matamua is a descendant of the Ngāti Hotu tribe, also known as the Pafupaiarehe, and sought recognition of her tribal existence and compensation from the Crown. Matamua's appearance before the tribunal was in response to a brutal battle between the Ngāti Hotu and the Whanganui Māori, where the Whanganui Māori hung the legs of fallen Ngāti Hotu warriors from trees. treatygate.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/kupes-descendant-confirms-other-races-were-here-first/ www.tongarirorivermotel.co.nz/how-can-maori-be-indigenous-to-nz/

People need to know that Māori never ceded their 1835 Declaration of Independence signed 5 years prior to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Te Tiriti was an agreement between two sovereignties to allow settlement under an understanding of shared governance and protection of Māori rights, land and sovereignty. Hardly surprising to anyone who knows the history of colonialism to understand Britain’s failure to honour this treaty… and here we are 184 years later still fighting colonial oppression.

As with everything in this world currently, we need to follow the money. Currently, maori, the original owners of New Zealand in case David Seymour conveniently forgot, has a say on environmental issues. Now it is very difficult for our current appallngly entitled and greedy coalition government to sell off the country with that in place. So by throwing away a treaty that the owners and invaders both signed, they accomplish two things. Disempower maori and put the for sale sign up over everything we currently protect and send a message to all the countries with Indigenous populations that were colonised, that you can dispose of Indigenous rights legally. We already saw the smoking lobby purchase Winston Peters and destroy the progress we made, and the world was following. Now we have the completion of the invading 'colonisers' by saying maori ceded sovereignty is ridiculous and insulting. For luxon to think we should trust Mr. entitled when he says his party will not vote in b favour is just as ridiculous and insulting. Wave enough money in his face, and he will dance to any tune you choose. It's time for Kiwis to stand up and do the right thing as we so often have.

Understand the reality of what the Treaty Principals bill is intended to do. Maori in New Zealand have more rights than non-Maori. They have priority over non-Maori in areas such as health, education and housing - all the bill is trying to do is install equal rights, which, according to Maori, isn't fair. Maori, on average, are unfortunately over-represented in areas of poor health, poor education and certainly in prisons, and that's been the argument given for the priority rights, i.e. to fix it. But course, there are also many many astute and highly successful Maori that need to help and that's the NZ Govt's point, they want to help those in need, not something based just upon race - even the complicit left-leaning NZ news media deliberately misreports this and certainly overseas news media don't even understand the issue and just parrots the NZ media line.

That Treaty of Waitangi bill has been ordered by the UK Crown, through the Commander-in-Chief of NZDF / Governor General of NZ. NZ is still very much a crown colony, considered a conquest of the crown… and a jewel in the crown! Who “protects” the crown jewels? That’s right!: The military. Since the dawn of time, the military has never been about 'sharing and caring'. The military “defence force” is a devouring, insatiable, invading, conquering force, taking captive-hostages to their money- n power-motivated scams. They want everything! They cannot be content / satisfied that Maori seek to retain a level of independence and sovereignty in their own culture. Instead, they are hell-bent on forcing themselves on the Maori and will not rest until they do. NZ is “The Great Neoliberal Experiment of the World" (i.e.: see John Hopkins Uni ‘research’ on Third Sector Economy / NFP Sector / Civilian Sector). The NZDF is working behind the scenes (read Defence Act 1990, Art 4, 2) to homogenise our society and destroy the Maori’s! Remember that ‘the settlers' (migrants) were (and still are!) brought here on HM Navy military “ships”, air or sea! So, even though we live in the 21st century and we all have 'equal rights' (theoretically), the NZDF is now literally working to 'conquer' (also note the brainwashing propaganda of 'One NZ') what doesn't belong to them… and never has! Their goal is to make us all march in rank-n-file, to ’own' us all "body, mind and soul", in NATO's own words. Remember Luxon is now in NATO’s pocket (through IP4), beholden to the UN Corps-oration and IMF, through debt bondage. The UK/ Crown is one of the 5 veto members in the UN Security Council, the self-declared “Victors of WII”. Debt-bondage securities (including NZ!) are held against the scam of our national debt. This is HUGE, far bigger than you currently know!… And now you’re just catching on.

That is not what the treaty of Waitangi is for though. It’s not designed to make EVERYONE feel included. It’s an agreement between Māori and The Crown. If you want a treaty so you can feel equal (as if Aotearoa is not already) then gather you friends and make your own treaty you can encourage others to sign. But Tiriti O Waitangi is not to be tampered with. Thanks :)

Do you agree with the new world order coming out to publicly say " you will own nothing and be happy" ? Do you no that during the Covid madness mandates lawyers from all around the world were in agreement and discussions with maori leaders as it is maori who are the only people in the world who has a legal standing to government or one world government in court as they are a sovereign people who do not come under the british crown "like everyone else " it's actually in everyone's best interest that maori are supported to remain sovereign. And maori has always wanted peace and partnership with the nz government and crown of England. As the soldiers of the maori battalion who fought side by side with and for the british empire. Your view of it from the shallow makes sense to most. I encourage you to do your research and get into the deep before you find a voice on social media

The Treaty was signed nearly 200 years ago, by British settlers and Maori cheifs. However, in modern day society, like the rest of the developed world, New Zealand is a melting pot of many different ethnicities. Some of which are 4th/5th generation New Zealanders. Should they forever be seen as "not belonging"? The Bill calls for equal rights for all, and the person behind the bill is Maori himself. It takes nothing away from Maori. The trouble is that they don't want to have or hear this debate, and therefore do not even know what the bill is about. Talking about protecting their land and rights is just misinformed. What these protestors want is the right to seek compensation forever, and to get preferential treatment over everyone else (an apartheid system, in other words).

stop talking crap weve been having this debate for 50 years only now David Seymores made out its an equal rights issue and you suckers fell for it , we won't turn a blind eye to the crown , the government or your blatant disregard of this countries founding document Te Tiriti O Waitangi , keep the promise , honor the treaty or do you have no honor are you better than the Queen of England who acknowledged and recognised the maori version as the founding document in 2019 and apologised for its many breaches in the 179 years , you only care now because you think it affects you , what do you lose in this deal , because maori would lose Tino Rangatiratanga in this country a promise that was givin to us and is still very relevent today , sure their are a lot of cultures here but those cultures survive in their homeland , this is the homeland of Te Ao Maori if we don't fight for it who will , if you don't know what Tino Rangatiratanga is then shame on you , we learned your ways show us the same respect and learn ours , true equality
