The VX1 from Voxon Photonics is a volumetric display inspired by the game of holochess (aka dejarik) aboard the Millennium Falcon, as featured in Star Wars: Episode IV and The Force Awakens. This technology works as a 3D printer for light, creating images that can be viewed in 3D from any angle, without the need for special glasses.

Totally. The headset VR tech we use currently, will eventually catch the interest of companies that will eventually get its ads into VR worlds but not just that, they'll make it so that you can't start your VR fun until you actually _engage_ in an intereactive VR program. Maybe something like you're stuck in hallway until you drink a coke in VR, or "select the right cleaning product" on a shelf of other cleaning products and then use the right one to clean up a spill on the floor before you can proceed into the VR world you wanted to get into.

@Zero Cool I'm not up to date, but one day these will look realistic in full color. Then I can see a lot of use for them in shopping windows or for online shopping. I can look at an item from every side without having to change it by hand, which has been a problem on screen a few times for me. The same goes for looking at an item like that in it's original size before buying the pattern and printing them on a 3D printer. I better stop before I have some really crazy how to use that. In short? There are uses for that technology.

Nope, if it does than you can kiss it goodbye in your common lives. There was a whole bunch of great stuff that went to the medical industry that either died there or is slowly disappearing such as rejuvenating tonics, galvanic therapy, sound therapy, light therapy, colour therapy (who here actually knows the effects of colour on the body, should have been invested in architecture), water therapy etc. It needs to go the the commercial sector so that ordinary people can use it or to the game and hobby sector.

New technology should always focus on consumer-level products. That's the best way for it to see interest, development, funding, applications, etc. Imagine how far behind VR would be if the original Oculus Rift was only designed for medicine and not entertainment. Now, it's come far enough to be used for both. Imagine how advanced electroencephalography would be if early game consoles had even just a *little* of it, and it wasn't only being used in hospitals for epilepsy.
@kevinschwartz8151
@kevinschwartz8151 Жыл бұрын
I think it'd be better to make it commercial and then let hospitals use it. If it only goes to hospitals it will be way pricier. There are some goods that are the exact same thing that hospitals use but because it isn't listed as "medical" it is way cheaper!

I think back to when I was a kid. Saturday morning cartoons and Transformers were the most fun we could have as kids. These days kids only have video games and they really don't care about cartoons and toys for fun anymore. It all about video games. I think this technology could revolutionize the type of entertainment our children consume for fun in the future. If it's like an interactive tv show / game that has a playable aspect to actual toys on the side, similar the rpg game strategy of those card games that were popular in the early 2000s, I think that would restore the joy of childhood memories for future generations. They will remember it just as fondly as my generation did with our childhood entertainment.

I have one designed where the photons from 360 micro projectors are just out of sync to the opposing ones thus in the point their frequencies clash there is a point or as you would currently call a pixel. You use these out-synced points to build a framework for a 360 degree hologram. This tech has been around for some time and is not reliant on fast moving hardware blades. It is pure light to light.

@oorcinus
@oorcinus 4 жыл бұрын
Nizm0zed It’s not nearly the same experience. LookingGlass is more like an elaborate lenticular print than a true volumetric display. It shows a very limited number of views, and the total viewing angle is fairly limited as well. This is a complete hemisphere, freely viewable from any angle, with no discrete ”views” to speak of.

I’ve heard similar style hologram fans. They’re not quiet but not annoyingly loud either. Have you heard the newer indoor home cooling fans however (the kind you’d use in summer)? Some companies have made them near silent... for a hefty price. I imagine it won’t be too long after this takes off that similar style “silent” fans will be used for this tech.

I'd concentrate on the medical imaging first. Make that your cash-cow and then you can expand into entertainment uses.
@alniseschrenkek6348
@alniseschrenkek6348 4 жыл бұрын
Kinda. But the entertainment use case creates the buzz and instantly reaches ALL the medical staffs around the world. They have two goals Make 1st generation good enough(the best option on the market) for medical use. Make 1st generation good enought for a gaming experience hype. Here price doesnt matter, since they essentially create it for influencers, youtubers, streamers, pro gamers. And they either get it for free, rent it or simply can spare mere 9k dollars. After the initial showcase and hype, yes, i agree, they should focus on medical. Now that they have a foot in the door and are known by the medical field. *But without the free entertainment buzz, marketing their device to medics would eat up an ABSURD amounbt of the budget. As marketings usually does. Srsly, it sickly costing.*
