RM has given us sooooo much content with this release....2 mvs so far, 2 lyric vids so far, 4 performances, and I have lost count of the number of interviews and behind the scenes stuff....def check out his performance at dia Beacon (4 tracks) and his interview with Zach Sang as well as Indigo album magazine film.

You’re probably the only KZbinr who actually pauses and thinks deeply about RM and BTS’s lyrics. The way you analyze them, put them into different contexts and just broaden the vague way of thinking is actually really amazing to see. Thank you for appreciating their lyrics and art. Much love to you. ❤️

He talked about where this song came from and what he means with it in his Tiny Desk. And you nailed it - art freezes something so it stops but also keeps it alive into the future, long after the subject of the painting dies. I would love to see a Knox Hill & RM conversation. 😁 You two think really similarly about the poetry of rap and the power of music. I feel similarly about myself and Suga. I want to sit with him and talk about storytelling 😁

Another great breakdown! I interpreted the "look a your chain/look at my stain" bars as him saying, "while you're out here flaunting material (but ultimately insignificant) things, I'm making my mark and leaving a legacy that will outlive me." It just radiates that "you're a frog in a well" /"big fish in a small pond" energy. 💜

Wow this was a fantastic breakdown. I’m very excited for the live tomorrow Knox. I’m sure you’ve got ARMY pals already advising but just be wary of a lot of the lyric vids currently available. RM is really tricky to translate at the best of times, all translators will take their own meanings from it especially as Korean is mostly a descriptive language and not easy to directly translate. But the ones that are gaining all the views have put no effort into it, which is frankly insulting especially as RM has said numerous times now he hopes people pay attention to his lyrics. Thank god for people like you doing his art justice! Gunna come over to Patreon for the month, really keep meaning to and forgetting! Excited to see what’s over there pal 🙏

Man just gotta say. I continue to be in awe at the way you breakdown songs, especially those in another language. As a massive hiphop head as you know, it’s something people don’t really open their minds to - that rapping in another language doesn’t always shine across right when translated. So much gets lost, so many bars and wordplay and it becomes more about ‘well he raps fast so he must be a better rapper’ kind of logic (*cough* like the ones that Teddy dude likes so much 🙃). But you look past all that, comment on what you can, add even more to the song and it’s so fucking great. I gotta lot of time for the BTS rappers. Believe it or not I was listening to Suga when he went by Gloss in his first underground crew. I was only a teenager but even then it had heart and felt natural. They’re not Kpop or idol rappers (appreciated your title) but the media always keep it all contained in one box, they’ll still carry on segregating all artists from Korea from the rest because it means they stay in control…So we continue to fight against it all as always.

Your analysis of the concept 'still life' and 'still, life' (i.e., comparing himself and his music and their captured moments to any artwork titled 'still life', which seemingly depicts some object that doesn't move yet still moves the hearts and souls of people and, therefore, can be seen as a progressing and moving piece of artwork itself) is spot on. RM actually explained this quite similarly in his Weverse live he did right after the album's release. :) 😊

Love the full breakdown! Also his line “94 livin in Hannam Blvd” 1994 is the year he was born, Hannam is the reference of their last dorm located in Hannam The Hill - the most expensive apartment building in South Korea, approximately 9-Billion KRW or just about $7-$8 Million USD 🎉 What a flex. When all members got their own place I think he still chose to stay in Hannam. All top celebrities and conglomerates stays there too 😅

I love the bounce of them both in this, it's a great sound and vibe. Also love the concept, RM is an advocate and huge lover of art in general so it really fits him to a tee. He has put so much though into all the content he's released since his album dropped, he's released a concert film of him performing a few songs at Dia Beacon art museum. He did a couple really intimate and live band performances on Tiny Desk and it's all been so Namjoon, so personal and in-depth. I'm very excited for you to hear the whole album Knox! It's very versatile

I think the "look at my stain"- line is mostly about being humble. He is tired of the "go-getter" mentality and people using chains (and materialistic things) to flex. He'd rather show that he is just a normal dude, not taking himself too seriously by highlighting his stain. That also ties back to his first song - just being human.

Just imagine the combo of deep thoughts and instrospection, the contrast of his type of poetic with yours...The language variety...Genuinely think it would be so dope! oh I had a feeling you would like the vibe of this track, and I knew you would nail every line 🫰🏻 a note about the Gangnam section: 94 is the year he was born, Hannam is the name of the fabulously-elite Seoul condo complex where he and BTS live, and Gangnam is famous as one of the richest districts in Seoul (think Gangnam Style). KZbin translated the 91 line as "walking on the royal road" which is what they used to call the paved path that led directly to the king's throne that only the king could walk on, so I take that section to mean that RM/BTS doesn't have to aim for what others considered to be elite anymore when they themselves are the kings. yet another poetic flex from a master of the pen :D

Yes bro! Can't wait for the live. This was an insanely amazing breakdown too, loved every second. I'm sure you've probably been sent things already but with lyric vids, I can only see decent ones on the channel "Enjoy BTS More" (the one I usually request vids off). She has a playlist for Indigo. There's just one that is live rather than a lyric vid (Yun feat Erykah Badu) but it's so clear and crisp, sounds just like the studio version anyway. I'll see if I can leave a link in a comment 🙌

I always interpret "look at my stain" as him asking you to look at his legacy and the mark or stain he is leaving behind him. Indigo is actually one of the strongest natural dyes and true indigo ink is incredibly hard to remove (it has a reputation for staining hands if you use it in art etc) 💜💙

If you listen to INDIGO from start to finish you understand why artists and musicians love this album best. Every track is a different genre. When you expect there to be nothing new under the sun. Indigo is unpredictable. Despite its excruciatingly honest and self revlatory content( he called it the diary of his 20s) he makes us smile. Strangely enough my favourite track is the drunk dissafection of CHANGE. Though I must admit LONELY is the track of my lockdown experience and had me going round the house singing 'Im fukin lonely na honja seome( alone on an Island) at the top of my lungs with a big smile on my face. I ordered the CD for my carefully curated collection because I truely believe this is a future cult classic. The perfect exposition of these confusing times we are living through.
