When I heard you say this I was like..she must be the character because Carol Burnett is a legend but sometimes it’s hard for us in the U.K. to be like ICON because we don’t always get due to age or peoples shows not translating over here like the Carol Burnett show sometimes you can be like..whose that. Sometimes the only way we get references to american pop culture is due to other shows/films like American sitcoms etc..I’ve rambled. Re: A spin off. Yeah I don’t think a Sue spin off would be good. You know what would be a good spin off? Seeing how Quinn & Puck’s daughter Beth grows up and what her relationship with her mom Quinn & stepmom Shelby would work out. I know that Mark Sailing committed suicide because of child porn allegations so I’m not sure how that would work out though. ☺️

Glee had a tonality problem that has a lot to do with its offensive content. When you watch the pilot, it's clear (at least to me now) that it was meant to be a satire on high school and theatre, it's filled with cliches (the hot blonde celibate cheerleader getting pregnant, the dumb as rocks jocks, the clearly gay but closeted student, etc) and obviously offensive things that are often apart of satire. Then, after it got super popular, it couldn't decide whether to continue being satirical, or just a run of the mill teen dramedy, and so the offensive satirical bits didn't ever play well in the later seasons. just my opinion though

exactly, this is why i wanted the whole college with rachel and kurt to stop happening the heart of the show is how ridiculous the school is every character is an 80's stereotype and mr schue has full on wars with the psychotic gym teacher sue sylvester. everyones social status is based off of the club they participate in it just doesnt work when rachel and kurt go off to a semi realistic college setting and i get that the characters were new and the writers werent sure if the viewers would like them, but if given more time to flesh out it probably would have gotten a fan base that was almost as big as the original

Quinn should have kept her baby. That would have made her character so much more interesting and given her more depth. It would have made Yale an even bigger accomplishment. They could have had her struggle with school and being a mom. We could have seen her wrestle with having to grow up so fast and wanting to be a 'normal teen' They could have added a storyline about her having post partum. It would have been way more interesting than the her making her life about the guy she's currently with.

Unpopular Opinion: Rachel should’ve gotten rejected from NYADA and Kurt should have gotten in the first place. Rachel should have learned to accept rejection and then prove herself in season four at the winter showcase like what Kurt did.

Yeah! Rachel got the solo like 99.99% of the time and got mad when she didn't. She had to learn at some point. And she choked at the audition. If it were real, I don't think she'd get in.

I hated the Karofvsky stuff. I hate, with a passion, the trope of "bully is in love to gay guy", and it would have been terribly awful if they got together. And having Karofsvky with Blaine in season 6 (and basically being a plot device to keep Kurt away from him) was a particular kind of awful writing and basically being mean. I don't doubt that Kurt forgave Dave, but he could never a normal friendship or anything like that with him for the years of abuse, so having his ex dating his ex-bully was so wrong. But I mean, I also hate Blaine and think he deserved to got called out for so much shit he pulled, so...

Sometimes I think they were offensive on purpose but just didn’t understand the harm. Ian would make jokes all the time that he wrote stuff just to see if it would get passed the censors at fox. My opinion on when glee started to get bad is actually when they hired a writing staff for season three. The new writers didn’t understand some of the characters and you could tell. I also think the reason the later seasons are worse is because the show become much more episodic. The early seasons had long arcs that kept people invested in the characters. Kurts bullying, Santana coming to terms with her sexuality and falling in love with Brit, the pregnancy stuff in season 1. The later seasons would just drop stuff after an episode or 2 and never mention it again. If glee would’ve shown marleys recovery process instead of dropping the Ed storyline after she fainted people would’ve been more invested in her. They should have shown uniques journey of coming to terms with herself and her journey with her parents becoming supportive after the grease episode instead of just dropping it. The seniors in season 4 should’ve gotten the same treatment as the ones in season 3 and shown their journeys of figuring out their futures. I could go on and on lol

The real problem was New York. The show was supposed to be about the glee club, not Rachel. Also it would have been way better if they wrote the season before starting to film it, rather than during the following episode they were shooting. It looked very much like they would write episode 12 when filming episode 14

I so agree with that! I feel like season 3 was still good because it put some secondary characters under the spotlight (Santana, Mercedes, Mike) but those storylines did feel "not Glee". In season 4, 5 and 6 nothing had impact if it wasn't happening in New York and that's just a shame. The stuff you mention would have been really great to see, I really wish we could have seen some depth to those characters!

I wish they had truly followed up on Dave’s storyline, following him being outed and then attempting suicide. Which the show completely rushed, for no reason whatsoever. Not that it’s unbelievable that things couldn’t come crashing down on him so quickly or that he was already in a fragile state and that just pushed him over the edge; however, it could have been done with a bit more finesse. I didn’t realize, when he was merely acting like a jackass in the early episodes what a fantastic actor Karinski’s character was (I’m incredibly lazy and his name has flown out of my head - like Max Adler?) In any case, I was impressed with his acting and I wouldn’t have had a problem with the writers following up on his recovery, etc. Except that apparently they didn’t like to do that on the show. The most I can recall them ever doing was showing Kurt care for his dad after the heart trouble. But, as mentioned, they didn’t show Dave’s recovery, they didn’t show Marley’s recovery (it just miraculously went away w a mention possibly twice of seeing a therapist). Quinn’s was probably the best (sarcasm) bc while they did show some PT, for the type of accident seen on screen, it simply wasn’t possible for her to be up and walking and moving about mere months later. I’ve had back surgery, twice, and my recovery time took longer than Quinn’s. There were complications, but then again, I wasn’t sidelined by a truck going perhaps 60-70 mph. That was laughable in a “are we honestly supposed to believe she was truly in that kind of serious accident, survived, and after a bit of not all that much PT, was up and about a few months later?” Artie going to Miss Pillsbury with sudden ideas of walking before college was a much more compelling storyline than the one they to,d w Quinn. (And I hated Artie’s character with a passion!) But still and all, that felt heartbreaking.

My unpopular opinion is that Rachel going onto a TV show in season five actually makes perfect sense, when you think about it it’s a parody of everything that Leah Michelle actually did. She got her big break on Broadway and she gave it up to be on a TV show that in the later seasons really did offend everyone 💁‍♀️

i feel like glee doesnt work in the college though theres no mistake that rachel IS glee, the show doesnt function well without her but also the show doesnt work well outside of its setting a big part of glee is how everything isnt always super serious and even the biggest problems can be shown in a way where its a ridiculous plot that still made viewers see it as a serious thing (for example quinns pregnancy) the whole world of the school is absolutely nonsensical and fun and thats why early glee was such a huge thing, there were psychotic gym teachers, all the students managed to be so sterotypical but still be seen as real characters, slushies being thrown and popularity being determined by what club you attend to me the world of glee doesn't function well without McKinley BUT it also doesnt function well without rachel

The actor for unique had to ask to come back for that one episode. The reason Melissa wasn’t in the finale episode was because of her eye injury that was caused by Blake.

glee as a fandom is arguably the most toxic place ever. I only observe and never get involved but I just see how anti klaine and klaine shippers interact. or people that like puck as a character get hate even if theyve said how much they hate mark. or if they like santana but others will yell about how shes a bully. people in the glee fandom are quick to judge a person based on their favourite characters. i.e someone liking Puck's character because they've got similar daddy issues but everyone assumes that they support pedophilia or if someone says like they like blaine, people will say shit like "oh so you support cheating". I think Amy is completely right about the season 6 newbies! I actually really liked them, and thought that they were interesting. It was really cool how they were all completely original characters instead of just copies of the original New Directions like the season 4 newbies. The season 6 newbies had so much potential, and could’ve had some amazing storylines and character development. It’s kind of a shame that season six was so Rachel focused since it had such a great bunch of new kids. Also, Roderick was one of, if not the best, male vocalist that was on the show.

Karofsky being gay could have definetly been a Ryan Murphy fantasy but it’s also such an overdone trope (homophobic bully is actually a closeted gay *gasp*). I think the thing is that its quite different from high school theatre to broadway theatre. In broadway you have a huge array of aspiring performers of every race. Its an incredibly diverse group so there is no reason why you should be casting a white woman as Maria given how many talented Latinx individuals in theatre would fit the role better. They're in a high school where your choices of performers are not as extensive as actual theatre. That is why I never had a problem with Rachel having that role because its such a small pool of performers and the school itself isn't very diverse to begin with. She wasn't taking an opportunity away from any Latina performers who would've fit the role because there weren't enough latinx students to fill the roles to begin with.

Thats the problem I have with them casting rachel. And I feel like west side story should not been done in general becuase the only latina is Santana. And ryan murphy cant just cast poc as other races, even if it was Mercedes i still feel wrong becuase for example your not gonna cast a hispanic in the color purple or a african in miss saigon if there not enough people of that race just dont do it and avoid offending us. And I feel like ryan murphy is trying to state that all poc are the same. I hope this doesnt sound rude or like trying to start a fight lol :)

Yeah that makes sense! I was looking at it as an actual high school production and completely missed the fact that the show itself should have never had west side story done in a cast with such little Latinx people! With that in mind I completely agree with that being problematic

I don’t have insta so I can’t post my unpopular opinions, but one of them is that the fact that Tina and Arty got together in the end was stupid and unrealistic/totally out of the blue. Also just the fact that most of them ended up with each other was completely unrealistic and over the top. Another one is that the first 3 seasons make up a genuinely good show! It had in incredibly clever humour as it was sharp and satirical of musicals, and accurately portrayed how intense and dramatic theatre kids/all teenagers can be. Obviously it did push the envelope at times but I do think that it was great. And had some awesome and unique characters, who you wouldn’t see represented on most other teen shows!

TW// Suicide Ok. Karofsky. I agree that Karofsky didn't deserve the redemption he received. They tried to make internalised homophobia a justified reason to bully someone, and while that is extremely sad and it's a shame the person feels that way, it doesn't change their actions when all is said and done. Ryan Murphy tried to make us pity Karofsky by throwing the attempted suicide storyline into the mix and as someone who has had a close friend commit suicide recently, I am absolutely disgusted by the way it was handled on the show. The storyline was clumsily thrown in and showed a three day development of bullying that led to a suicide attempt that not only, considering the circumstances, would've killed him, but was used so that we as an audience felt bad for holding Karofsky accountable now that he survived. (Maybe I'm just mad Karofsky survived and my friend didn't? But I believe keeping him alive just made the episode all the more clumsy and disrespectful.) I am a massive advocate for shedding light on suicide, especially now I have experienced loss due to it, but I think it really needs to be handled more carefully especially on such big media platforms. I loved Darren Criss' performance of Cough Syrup and I wish his amazing vocals and the gorgeous song by Young The Giant had been used in a more appropriate episode as the song in itself was AMAZING. This is just my opinion and feel free to disagree but I am so so glad that this was mentioned in the video. Love your content Amy! Hope you're doing ok in lockdown!

The first couple of seasons were genuinely good, and then Glee lost its way (I think, when they brought in other writers who didn’t really understand the characters, and also RIB weren’t sure whether they wanted to continue with the satire from the first couple of seasons), however, I must admit that I loved when it stopped taking itself seriously towards the end. The whole idea of Sue becoming a Klaine stan and all of that kind of weird shit was pretty funny! Not good, but funny. 😊

Okay, so, I honestly wouldn't have cared that Dave got a redemption arc had it just been him making up with Kurt and moving on with his life; but that's not what happened, and the biggest reason I hate it so much was because of his and Blaine's relationship. It genuinely makes me so mad to even think about. Firstly, he says that he's changed and that he wants to be friends with Kurt and whatever, but then he goes and dates his ex. AND BLAINE (regardless of if he and Kurt made up or if he actually changed, or regardless of the fact that all of the terrible things that Dave did to Kurt were before he and Kurt even met) HE KNEW THE THINGS THAT HE DID TO KURT! HE KNEW THE WAY HE TREATED HIM! And even if he and Kurt were broken up, Kurt was OBVIOUSLY still the love of Blaine's life and still meant a lot to him. So the fact that he thought that dating the guy who harassed him, threatened to kill him, and forced him to transfer schools was EVER okay just kind makes me SO mad. It was pointless and I hated it. Also, while we're kinda on the subject of Blaine. Blaine in the last three seasons just consistently pissed me off. Like, I LOVE Darren with ever fiber of my being, but Blaine consistently making terrible decision after terrible decision was just so infuriating to watch.

Just found this video and I need to add an unpopular opinion, Finn was to involved in Santana's coming out episode. I loved Cory but it felt like the writers were obsessed with Finn and whenever the girls had a storyline it was always how does Finn feel about what happened, maybe a big part of that was having three males running the show. Its just season two was telling a great story about Brittany and Santana having these feelings for each other and wanting to explore them while being scared. When we got to season three they were finally exploring these feelings and BOOM Finn outs her with zero consequences and he saves the day in the following episode while Brittany has barely any lines. I get its a comedy show but they handled a lot of difficult situations with respect but glossed over the outting and made him just as much a focal point in HER coming out story.

I wasn’t a theatre kid and man I loved Glee. It was perfect for its time. I don’t know, it was like you had to be there but it was so fun and my brother and I used to look forward to watching it and discussing it after - we watched season 1 together when I was in my senior year and still lived at home and kept up on it with each other until it finished so it became special to our relationship too. We still share Glee memes etc with each other ☺️
