29:10 country music won’t fully pop “mainstream” frfr until it breaks down that glass barrier of racism and allow other artists beyond white people to gain notoriety in that genre. I’ve seen Latin country artists, black country artists, Asian country artists that all deserve attention in one way or another but nope, all you see at any award show or country related platforms is by majority- severely whitewashed. Until those gatekeepers release themselves from their own racial prejudices country will never be as appealing as any other genre that’s more inclusive & whole heartedly welcoming to its artists that create music from it. Country doesn’t give that, the country realm of the music industry is very isolated, lacks creativity & COLOR, very white, and very bland/uninspiring. They need to accept more people of other demographics in if people ever want to see country as a too genre. That goes for ANY popular genre that gets commercialized- you have GOT to be more inclusive if you want mainstream success across the board.

Honestly the success of the newer generations of ex Disney girls isn’t even correlated to their time on Disney at all. For instance, I don’t even consider artists like Olivia Rodrigo or Sabrina Carpenter as Disney ex acts because they gained success from their music instead of from their Disney shows. By the time they were on Disney, the channel was already declining. Obviously they did gain some following but their Disney shows were not as impactful as prior shows. For instance, so many people didn’t even know Olivia was on Disney when Drivers License was released. Her debut single was the reason she had success. Unlike artists like Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus who had major success from their Disney shows and then went on to gain bigger success from their music careers.

It’s either very introspective pop bangers about her personal life, or activism anthems that can sometimes fall over the line into making the listener go “girl alright”. However, “Man’s World” may legitimately be one of her best written/performed/produced songs, and imo is the only time she fully hit the anthemic writing style on the head most likely because it’s also drawing from her experiences as a woman. It was in essence a perfect melding of her two writing and performance styles.

Saying Selena is only relevant bc of nostalgia is WILD she's killing it in acting i mean DOUBLE nominated at the Golden Globes this year!! killing it as a bussiness woman too and more popular than ever thanks to what she's doing with Rare Beauty, she also has a very successful (and good!) emmy-nominated cooking show i think she's doing amazing and has a lot going on she's just not doing music rn and hasn't been a pop star in a long long time but she's diversifying and killing it in other industries/aspects

might be an unpopular opinion but MARINA deserves to be as praised and loved as Lana Del Rey + she's so underrated it hurts

The film vs music debate was a joke, have we’ve not gotten so many great original movies this year? Lisa Frankenstein, The Substance, Anora, Hell Even Smile 2….meanwhile music is in shambles since the streaming & Radio impact…look at the pure sales & how much music artist barely sale the first week..

Popular opinion: i feel like orange trees wouldn't get as much hate if she left off the "o-o-o-orange" and just had those plucky strings in the intro and interludes.

my own opinion on imagine dragons changed when the song “demons” came out … it’s just a bit sickly sweet and kind of sounds like a teenager made it on a laptop

I think, relating to the cutting to the audience point, their reactions could be from a completely different moment taken out of context to generate a reaction. You see this all the time in fan edits, etc.

Honestly I think Pitchfork made the BEST critique for Electra Heart! 🤐 I strongly disagree with Electra Heart being Marina's best album, the album is tacky and pointless to me despite a few songs. I've read professional reviews that breakdown the album's flaws - the "concepts" are weak. The corruption of a young American beauty queen is really a trope not a true "character", a trope done by a TV show and even another artist (apparently Desperate Housewives, Lana Del Rey). According to the reviews, Marina doesn't deliver any fresh insights with the tropes on the album, her comments on shallowness are shallow themselves. I agree with them.

The reason disco is divorced from race but country isn't is because disco died and is coming back as opposed to country that has always been thriving and has developed a whole subculture in the time we haven't been paying attention. That subculture happens to have a large racist contingent. For years in racist circles country has been touted as "their music" while disco had pretty much left the conversation (outside of nostalgia).

it's so funny to me when people claim that Selena Gomez is irrelevant when she objectively is not She is killing it in acting (Film & TV), killing it as a bussiness woman too, has so many ongoing + upcoming projects, is literally the most followed woman online across all platforms she's just not a pop star anymore but she def is relevant and very successful in many fields and even in music she is still the Disney ex-act with the most streams on Spotify, the most views on KZbin despite music not being her main thing and people listen to her songs bc she has bops not bc of nostalgia as i've seen people claim in this comment section streams-wise Oliva Rodrigo will inevitably surpass her and maybe Sabrina too after the amazing year she's had

also people buy Rare Beauty products bc they are good not bc of nostalgia that makes no sense like idk i love ari but i don't really buy rem beauty bc they don't really do it for me i don't think people will spend their hard-earned money on make up products bc of nostalgia??
