@@sathos Yes, it's not a hard thing to achieve. If war kicks off, I can see the MOD slapping a compulsory purchase order on Mr Hewes. After they have gone begging to Ukraine and been turned down flat. Sunak on bended knee at kick-off. "Considering our generous and excessive virtue signalling to defend your oligarchy. Can we have our tanks and equipment back, pretty please?" Zelensky from his latest multimillion winter Dasha. "Have you gone mad, expecting us to give away vital national defence assets. Go away you annoying little man."

@gusgone4527
@gusgone4527 Жыл бұрын
@@evobsm2328 In 1981 the British Army had 900 Chieftain MBTs with almost another 100 held in reserve. We also had the ability to build another lighter model of MBT called the Vickers MK3 (Later the better Mk4 etc) More importantly, we had at least two functioning state of the art tank manufacturing factories. Ready to supply as many spares and upgrades as necessary, to keep that fleet in fighting condition. Plus the ability to produce more of both types if they were lost in battle. So mysticky friend. Reducing the fleet to 470 Challenger 2, even if all of them were upgraded to Mk 3 levels, would have left us woefully underequipped. The loss of the strategically important tank factories was a direct result of having such a small fleet. That loss was the biggest mistake in British military history. Even worse than giving away finite military resources to a former soviet enemy country, Ukraine. As much as I liked BoJo, he should be in the Tower of London awaiting an appointment with the executioner. I'd say that qualifies as an issue of major chuffing concern. A failure of government bordering on treason! The so-called post Cold War peace dividend was and still is, a delusion. Perpetrated by woke lovies with no balls and a lower IQ than an autistic dog turd.

We used the Diamond T's before we got the Antar's for pulling the tanks, I can remember being a tank driver sitting next to the Diamond T driver and holding the low box gear lever back to , stop it from jumping out as we went up hills, scary stuff for a young lad.

This was a fun episode! Thanks for it. One suggestion on the Diamond T truck- get rid of the corrugated exhaust pipe, and put in some nice Walker or AP solid steel exhaust tubing. The stuff used on school buses in North America is cheap but good. The corrugated stuff leaks and rots fast. Can't really clamp it securely either. Just my $0.02 worth.

Are you sure the hole in the right hand side of the firewall shroud was a civilian job? The US Marines modified all their heavy trucks to have exhaust stacks located there for amphibious and beach operations to allow deep fording. Only played with diamond T wreckers before, one 40's-50's and the other Vietnam era (Australian RAEME recovered the dumped vehicle in Vietnam when departing from where US forces had just left it.)

I suspect that the two meters on the control box are toast. They are both sitting off zero, and farther off than the meter adjuster screws at the bottom if the glass would normally correct. All of the rest of it looks electrically sound from what I could see. The cosmetics of the panel are a bit rubbish, but most of that will probably clean up well enough. BTW, some of that looks to be 1970s electrics. They didn't have LEDs in the 1960s.
