Steel Comanders is a tribute to the evolution of armored combat. Starting with the knights of old leading into the tanks of yesterday up until today.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but Joakim Broden (the lead vocalist) was originally supposed to just be a keyboardist and fill-in vocalist back when Sabaton first formed. But because the band struggled with booking gigs and figuring out what kind of music they wanted to do, the original vocalist quit and Joakim became the primary vocalist. And here we are, 20+ years later, bowing down to his amazingness.

Actually there was NO singer or original songs before Joakim came in as a keyboardist and a songwriter, in early 1999 age 18. The "band" (bunch of 17-19 year olds playing covers together) was called Aeon at the time. "Sabaton" for the name was reportedly Joakim's idea, when they learned that there was already a band called Aeon, and had to come up with something else. Sabaton's music is mostly written by Joakim (sometimes he works with a friend etc.) The 2014 album Heroes is when any band mates started to actually collaborate with him on the music. In the very beginning it was all him. These days he's still the main songwriter on their music. He started to sing just to demonstrate to the others how the vocal melodies were supposed to go, since he had written those too. He had never sung properly before that. He was not a singer at all then! He himself says he was really bad for the first few years, but still the best singer in the band. That is big reason why he sounds like he does, no classic vocal coaching just instincts and try & error. He also sung on the early stuff so they could use the demos to find a singer, but they never did. Not sure how hard they actually tried, seems they were "lazy bastards"... And then in 2005 they had an actual succesful album out, with him as the (epic) singer, at that point it no longer made any sense to get someone else. Instead they hired a keyboardist 2005-2012 (though Joakim has always done a lot, and on some albums all, of the keyboards). Joakim is the ONLY lead singer Sabaton has EVER had! And here's the kicker, HE NEVER WANTED TO BE A SINGER!

I'm so glad that happened, I never liked to sing when I was younger but when I discovered Sabaton in my early 20's I found an interest to since I love history. Now I'm 32 and try to sing once a week and I owe it to him.

Tanks are referred to as armor because that is their defining characteristic so by showing the knight beforehand it's explaining the evolution of warfare over centuries with the idea that tankers now are the descendants of medieval knights.

No matter how much drones or fighter jets a nation has, tanks will eventually lead the infantry to conquer the area.

The spirit is looking for the perfect tank commander, and he leave the tanks commanders who commited strategic mistakes. The mark 1 was blocked in the mud because of the commanders, the shermans didn't look correctly the battlefield and was ambushed by stug3, same for the Panther crew who didn't look on left before go trough the crossroad. The SU152 shoot without seeing his target trough the smoke and couldn't reverse. The reason why the spirit didn't leave sabaton crew is they didn't do any mistake, the AMX13 blocked them after being killed
