The half a million for a Brooklyn apartment that's barely the same sqft as mine? Oh hell naw. I mean, sure my rent is only 259$ a month, but that's cuz it's a HUD building, it's like 1005$ a month to actually rent a room here unless you're elderly or disabled. Sure you'd "own" the apartment, but naw man. For 500k, I'm gonna get a house with at LEAST four bedrooms and two and a half baths for damn sure. I'm pretty sure I could build/buy a mansion in my town for that. When mom built her home, back in 1997. With a master bedroom, two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms. A living room, family room, kitchen, dining room, laundry room and basement spanning the entire floor plan, which could be renovated into another family room, two bedrooms and two extra bathrooms. She paid, in 1997 dollars, 300-350k dollars. Today, I think it's worth over one million due to equity and inflation.

I own a house that is 10% of this video! My $50,000 house has 672 ft^2 (62.4 m^2). Of course it is in a rural part of North Dakota. It doesn't have the nice finishes shown here, but it is nice enough. The North Dakota thing is really the biggest problem. The funny thing is that my classroom is bigger than the house and its basement set side by side. But I have enough room to have a garden, and I love this space: it is fully paid for and all mine. By buying something small, I have it paid off. I can now save money to get something better, and if it doesn't happen, I have a nice space that is all mine.

Yeah, but they'll all sell for over that. The problem with real estate in the US is there are no restrictions to companies buying property. These companies come in and can afford to pay way over asking price, outbid families, and make it up in the long term with sky-high rent prices. So a respectable $750 mortgage payment is now $1200+ rent and you own nothing.

As stated in the video, “LOCATION IS EVERYTHING!!!” For half a mill, I most places outside of the major cities you can really get quite a lot! Including land… but there is always a negative too! In Las Vegas you have to contend with the heat… tourism driven economy… and dodgy medical services. Houston also had heat, humidity, HURRICANES, a crazy Texas Electrical Utility Grid, “guns, rednecks, ‘n BIBLES… EVERYWHERE!!!” So nowhere is perfect. It really comes down to what you can afford, and what you are willing to put up with! 😂😂😂 I live in Santa Monica, California very close to the Pacific Ocean. Probably one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. Yes, we have occasional earthquakes. But as a native, I barely notice the small ones. Certain things are more expensive here than in other parts of the country, like gasoline. But… to live within walking distance of the ocean… SOOOOOO WORTH IT! I have a 5 bedroom, 2 story home. We paid $6mil for it about 10yrs. ago. Fortunately… we can afford it! 😂😂😂

Added an external 3-4(depending on vehicle size) garage for about $50,000 ($175k total) in 2011. My rough guess based on nearby homes selling with similar sized houses and property size without a garage, after the landscaping done to our property(trees, grass, cactus, pond, etc.) with addition of the garage is probably worth 4-500k today

I lived in Manhattan (Chelsea) in the late 80s for $975 a month. A good friend still lives in the building, and that apartment rents currently for $7500 monthly, then add another $600 for parking at another location. In 1990, I moved to Philadelphia to do my doctoral studies, and my rent was $365 for a similar place. Since then, I stayed based in Philly while doing temporary moves around the country and had a vast variety of rents. Then, four years ago, I retired. donated most of my belongings, downsized/de-junked, and settled in a large studio in Philly. I pay $1000 a month. No luxury, but I am more than happy with this downsized arrangement. I should have done this years ago. After being widowed in 1998, I always had space I didn't fully use or need. Downsizing was surprisingly easy.

The typical lot size for that same house is less than 1/4 acre. This is a military town, so housing prices have always fluctuated. But now with all the blue state refugees, our city is overpopulated and housing supply is very low.

Hi Adam, I grew up in that Los Angeles neighborhood, and it is not safe (see the bars on the windows of the adjacent house). Those houses are old too. The house I grew up in was built in 1919, and that house is going for almost a million dollars in its broken down state. I'm glad we moved 3100 miles away to Massachusetts. A lot more bang for your buck and a lot more land. We paid $274.9k in 2005 and now the house is worth $449k.

Adam... Just in case you weren't sure... New York City is comprised of 5 boroughs. Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Staten Island. That's technically one city. New York State is the entire state and consists of 61 cities, 1K towns and lots of villages. So, that 1 hour from the apartment in Brooklyn into Manhattan, is within the same city.

Bought our house 22 years ago for a little under $300,000. It was a repossession from a bank and even though it was only a year old the previous owners had pretty much taken everything from it. Lights, ovens, sinks etc. Now (according to Zillow) it's worth about $650 to 670,000. 3 acres, a pond, 3 (plus, meaning you could turn some of the rooms in the basement into bedrooms. We only needed 3 beds so we didn't bother) bed, 4 bath, finished walk out basement etc. More bang for your buck in the Midwest!

I purchased my home in February 2018. It is 2900 square feet, 4 bedroom 4 and 1/2 bath, double walk in closet in the master bedroom. I have a 3 car garage with an upstairs room above the 3rd garage that is approximately 600 sq. ft. and another full bath (shower only). It is also located in a gated community with a lake and in ground swimming pool. I paid 275k for this home. I have been offered 500k within the last 3 months for my house. I will not sell for two reasons: 1. my interest rate is less than 2% and now it would be 6%; and 2. if I purchased another home similar size for the same money I originally paid, I would be in the worse part of the city. I looked into buying a large parcel of land (40 acres) and building a new house similar size and it would cost me 1.2 million. I said no thank you.

We're about 40 minutes away from downtown D.C. My family bought this home for me and my brother to live in while we study at a nearby university, been living here for roughly 3 years now. and around half of the house is continuously being rented out so we can continue making payments on our mortgage XD

I had bought a 1500 sqft 3/2 2 story condo with a carpor, rundown in west miami in 2021 for 295k. Invested around over 30k in 2 years and joined the HOA to bring everything up to code n modern n out from the almost condemed state it was in. Sold it for 460k in the end of 2023 and with the ridiculous earnings in such a short term left to San Antonio, Tx where i got a 2700 sqft 2 story single family house 5/3, with a loft, 2 car garage, on a culdesac, sitting on almost half an acre, brand new construction, took 4 months to build from scratch... Payed 395k for it. Something to grow into rather than grow out of to be ready for start a family with the wife now. Only 30 years old btw I know im lucky because none of my friends are able to do what I did or get to where i am with economic stability... its rough for the middle class in Florida... Yes its ridiculous how location affects real estate to drastic levels cus of how large the US is!

They're known as condominiums. You buy the apartment, but the catch is that you also have to pay monthly "Condo Fees" to the building owners for " building services " [elevators, lighted hallways, etc.].

We bought a home 25 years ago for $95k. 3 bedroom 1 bath 1600 sq ft. with a very large yard. Unfortunately, the state went downhill over the years. When we sold 4 years ago we were only able to get $140k for it and it wasn't paid off so most went to the bank. We've moved to a new state for my hubby's job and are forced to rent. All homes here start around $550k and we can't even save up enough for a down much less afford the $3500 a month mortgage.

The word "average" most often means the arithmetic mean, but it can also refer to the median, the geometric mean, or possibly something else entirely. The word "median" is far more specific: by definition, half of the properties are worth more than the median value, and the other half are worth less; although the figure can still be manipulated, e.g., by looking at the median sale value in a given period, versus median appraisal value of properties in the community regardless of whether they are being sold or not, which will often give you a very different figure; people who are either being sloppy, or trying to pull the wool over your eyes, will just say "median value" and not specify exactly what data set it's the median value of, and you should be deeply suspicious of whatever claims they are pushing in that case. In first-world economies with relatively normal demographics, the median is generally a very *typical* value (typical, that is, of the data set in question), but the arithmetic mean can be significantly higher than the median, especially in communities that tend to attract wealthy people. The relationship between the standard deviation, and the difference between the median and the arithmetic mean, can tell you interesting things about the socioeconomic demographics of the community. Besides property values, this is also true if you're looking at e.g. median income. If it's an "apartment," you rent it. If you buy it, it's a "condo". We (and by we, I mean my parents) paid $45 thousand for this home, in 1991. In 2021, it would have been worth about the same amount, but now it could be worth twice as much, maybe more, because demand for housing finally caught up with supply here, circa 2022, and once enough of the surplus housing that had been sitting as a glut on the market finally sold, housing prices started to catch up with all the inflation that hadn't been happening since the 2007 mortgage-CDO crash, driving prices up at an accelerated rate over the space of about eighteen months. As a result, people who bought houses here in the late 2010s, got a really good deal.
