As a long time World of Warcraft player, I can confirm that when the South Park episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft" aired, the WoW community did indeed go through the roof....in a good way. We all loved it! I still remember watching it while I was playing, the night that it aired lol.

The writers of South Park, Parker and Stone HATES Family Guy. Not because they're rivals or anything, but Trey and Parker simply don't respect its writing. They hate all the random cutaway gags which doesn't contribute to the plot at all. And it's not just South Park who hates Family Guy, the writers of Simpsons and King of the Hill all have the same opinion. TLDR, Parker and Stone thinks the writing sucks and lacks literary and artistic merit.

And like you said, they are what makes the show funny; so if you cut them out all you have left is nothing really. Other shows like South Park and Simpsons have gags and jokes, but they're incorporated into the plot itself. In otherwords, South Park and Simpson is funny because the overlying theme and story itself is funny while Family Guy has to resort to cheap gags which is just lazy writing.

i liked WoW a lot. joined a private server at first during BC, eventually went to retail once WotLK hit. never been a guild-y person, i don't make online friends on purpose because i become needy, or they do, it's just frustrating both ways. but i did play with my IRL friend, we only played these two characters with each other, same quests. He wanted to try resto druid, it really complemented my beastmaster hunter. we relied on a few of my turtles to tank us through Dungeon Finder, he healed, I DPS'd and healed my pets. we got through a surprising amount of content with just two of us and my boys. also one time we went and made a pair of Discipline Priests, leveled solely through PvP capture the flag, back when the groups were 10 level stretches, not 5. I actually got the Ironman achievement (capture all 3 required flags yourself without dying once, and I think the enemy also can't capture any flags) at 45 on my priest because me and him were so ridiculous at it. i'm gonna go facebook him and talk to him about this. man, good memories, that south park episode was really inaccurate though

Alright, dude, lemme explain: Matt and Trey both hate Family Guy, and Seth MacFarlane didn't like the way they portrayed the show--primarily the fact that they basically said that it's so dumb that manatees could write the show--in the two "Cartoon Wars" episodes, so he basically said in an interview that they're "just not good guys". Seth was kind of a douche about the whole situation, and the worst part of it was that everyone with him during that interview were such suck-ups to him the entire time without him even batting an eye. But previous to that, Matt and Trey, in a separate interview, said that they don't think that Family Guy should be taken off the air, they just think that it's overrated, kinda like Justin Timberlake. They also said that it has the potential to be a really good TV show since the people that make the episodes are really smart, but they don't work hard enough. Seth kinda continued to be kinda salty about the whole situation, but hey, that's Liberal Hollywood for ya.
