I also found if the gaskets on the part of the keg that twist on have a crack or dried out can cause bubbling in the line and keg lube can help.

Someone showed me a trick of put a smaller tube or restricting item "inside" the beer line. I found a 1/8" OD food grade tubing, and put it in my 3/16 line. Less than 4 feet of hose, perfect pour every time!

That's an awesome tip!

To fight reason 2. I have gotten accustomed to pouring half of one beer, it foams but starts chilling the line. I then pour a second beer in full. Now the line is chilled enough and I finish the pour on the first beer. Both 23oz glasses usually have about the same servable amount of head with this method.

I’m new to the kegerator thing. I’m setting it up today and I’m going to have a half keg of Sam Adam’s regular lager delivered this afternoon. Can somebody give me advice on on how much co2 pressure to use and what temp to set my kegerator at? I appreciate any help

Thanks Chris and Vito for those troubleshooting steps , lifesaver for the party!

By taping the temperature probe to a water bottle, I got a more consistent temperature read out. Then set the controller to 38 with 1 degree of resolution. The temp fluctuates from 36-40... setting the psi to 10, with 36-40 degrees range fixed my foaming issues.

Also make sure your glassware is clean! Especially at self serve keg parties, a lot of people will top off a dirty glass/solo cup and complain about foam when there's nothing wrong with the pour.

I don’t know what the hell is going on, but my Keg inside the kegerator is starting to form ice, and I’m getting nothing but foam. Could it be too cold? The operating limit on this kegerator is 32-59, I don’t think I had it set at 32 but even still shouldn’t it still poor beer at those low temps?

My foaming issue I found was a small crack at the top of the dip tube so was sucking up air and beer.
@wideglidebry2 жыл бұрын
My cause was too low co2 pressure. I cranked it up to 12.5psi and it pours smooth as glass. I then added a flow control faucet to slow down the pour a bit. Not necessary, but it worked out well.

Awesome, appreciate you sharing, it will help others!

That's basically how it's tought in all over Europe. Too little pressure will make the CO2 exit the beer resulting in foam.

Using a kegerator with a stainless tower similar to the one your using in our basement home bar. Any experience/knowledge of using expandable foam insulation in the tower to help retain temp in the hoses to reduce the heat component? Obviously would make changing the tubes out a gigantic PITA, but wondered if it would help? Prost!
@wideglidebry2 жыл бұрын
What cools the lines is the air in the tower. Using expanding foam reduces the volume of cool air you can pump in to the tower. They make insulating sleeves that fit on the outside of the tower, which would be a better option. I know that blocks the great look of the silver tower but the fan and sleeve are a better option.

Czech point of view: My beer is not foaming enough and how to fix it.
@CarstenBeuckmann29 күн бұрын
Besides very clean glass rinsing, it might be your malt (or hop) bill. If you are only using Pilsner malt (please forgive me if I am judgemental here), try adding some malt which is adding protein or maybe consider to add more hops (oils are the factor here, not alpha-acid). Foam consist of protein and hop oils, so without more info, it is hard to comment on your problem. Easiest way to fix is to add spit malt, wheat malt, or Carapils from Weyermann (Germany), around 5-10% of the grain billl. Hope this helps, greetings from a German brewer in Japan.

@CarstenBeuckmann Thank you for a comprehensive answer! 🙏 My previous post was meant more like a joke, not that my beer is not foaming enough.

Just would like to clarify, that a lot of types of beer are supposed to have foam, especially in Europe. So be careful what kind of beer you have first.
