I like how they put that sign up 'Yes we are Jamaican' because some people might go into the store thinking they selling indian or chinese food only... Most born Indian/Chinese Jamaicans left the island back in the late 80s migrating to NY and FL,so dont be surprised if you come across more running Indian/Chinese Jamaican restaurants. They cook the same just like an Afro Jamaican,so you don't have to worry about it tasting different.

The one in Inglewood is good.. Unfortunately only 35-40k Jamaicans are in CA. Jamaicans population is high mainly on the East Coast including NY,Georgia Florida,North and South Carolina and Texas.. North East Connecticut and Massachusetts are also in the mix...

Jamaican beef patties are unreal. I grew up in Brooklyn NY, and while there were certainly Jamaican joints I could go to - my first experiences with beef patties was always with my local pizza places which is really weird to say, but even to this day I think they still sell them there. Even here in Florida where I am now, pizza joints sell beef patties. Regardless, as decently good as those pizza place beef patties were (they did get them from a local Jamaican spot after all) the first time I actually went to a real Jamaican restaurant and had freshly baked beef patties and curry oxtail and fresh rice and beans, it was so good. Sadly that was near 30 years ago, and down here in Florida where I am there are no authentic Jamaican restaurants near me. The closest we can get to Jamaican food is Golden Krust (to be fair I love their beef patties, so that works out lol) and another place called Dutch Pot (the patties aren't as good, but the curry and stewed meats are teriffic there). So, between your trip to Jamaica itself and this 2nd channel stuff, I'm so loving seeing great Jamaican food and awesome people.

David, you should put Mandeville on your list of travel plans. Nice kool vibes away from the bustle and hustle of Kingston and Mobay. Put St Elizabeth on your list as well. Places like YS falls, Treasure beach are good tourist and food destination. Real yard style food and culture. Keep exploring

People hear mostly Kingston/St Andrew accents and think all off Jamaica have the same accent. My family is from St. Elizabeth and sound nothing like Kingstonians. Accents in Jamaica can be as different as the Bostonian and a Cajun which are both American accents. Uptown Kingston sounds nothing , not even close, to downtown Kingston.
