As someone who just finished dealing with a stuck MOEN cartridge without the special OEM tool, WD40 IS YOUR FRIEND!! Lube the living hell outta the crack between the cartridge and the pipe, wait about 7 minutes, then get some normal pliers and grip the part of the plastic on the left and right of the "HC" text (around the middle where the brass comes out) REALLY hard. You'll want gloves for this, as my pliers gave me a nasty bite on my first attempt. Don't try to grip the brass, you won't get enough purchase. Pull firmly while turning back and forth. Lube some more if you don't make further progress, then wipe the excess and pull/twist again. Patience is key here, any progress is better than no progress or breaking it. Repeat until the cartridge pops out. Took me about 2 hours to figure it out my first time doing this. When you get the cartridge far enough out, you can grip the circular portion for better leverage. If you need some help in the early stages, there should be a slot near the top you can get a screwdriver into to coax it out. Take your time and make sure the water main is off. If the handle is upside down to turn off the water, you just need to flip the black plastic part and you're good to go.

I just want to make absolutely certain I understand this correctly - can I replace the cartridge without shutting off the main water? I desperately need to do what you did in this video. @@lidiahabtai3073 Hi Lidia, yes through the grace of God I was able to fix it. You do not need to turn off the main water. It's just like he said - Right beind the wall are two screws. They worked perfectly in shutting off the water. Good luck!!

Can you tell what number of cartridge you bought I have the same shower handle and its hard to turn too don't get a lot of cold water due to a plumber that fixed my previous shower handle that wasn't closing . Good thing i ran over your video I put my own shower handle but it still drips I think it's the cartridge but it is to hard too take off the nug I can see it has built up. How can I remove or loose it up? And what cartridge was the one you got?

My handle was kinda stuck and now even when it turns, no water. I know nothing about plumbing but I’ll try unscrewing some of these parts and follow steps you took to see if this is indeed the problem and hopefully the solution. I don’t want to have to call a plumber. I’ll be back to add to this comment if it all works out.🤞 Actually, I realized this may not be my problem. It seems this is only for stuck candle and not for no water coming out. Ugh. But I’ll still unscrew things and look around just for the heck of it.

Is it the only way to fix it dude? Replace it with new one. We got 2 handled shower and the hot one is hard to turn on early in the morning but once you did turn it on it work smoothly through the day.
