I used to brew about 10 years ago in a coopers PE barrel fermenter. Sterilize only when cleaning, with hot tap water, no sanitizer or hops and use sugar, occasionally try dextrose. I have a Fermentasaurus now to start again and plan to do it right. I live in a colder climate now and was puzzled on how the heat belt works. My last PE container I drilled a hole in the lower section and used a grommet and fish tank heater. The fish tank heater has a dial on it to lower or raise the temperature but the belt doesn't look like it can be monitored. Also love that jacket for your tank and can't find it sold in Australia. Do you have a video on heating your brew?

Hi @edgeGabe, I am so glad you have decided to start brewing again, I haven't made a video on temperature control using a heat belt and certainly will do one in the near future, thanks for the idea! I bought my jackets from KegKing and they do a great job. Thanks for asking.

Great video. I find a piece cut out of a neoprene stubby cooler works great to insulate the temp. sensor Looking forward to the tasting video mate.

Thanks for tip I will do that.

I'm only a novice with two brews under my belt but I put my temperature sensor above the heat belt (by a fair bit) given that heat rises. Not sure if this is good but that's what I did. Thanks fora great video.

Sodium Metabisuphite is a much cheaper alternative to Campden tablets (same chemical); plus as a powder its dissolves a lot easier. Also I'd suggest testing the gravities at the start and at the end of the fermentation; optionally in additional to the ABV also calculate the attenuation.

Thanks for the suggestion I didn't know that. 👌

Hey mate, What pressure did you set the ferma at ??
@SimpleHomeBrew4 жыл бұрын
Hi, 15psi seems to be a good setting for it as I get a good carbonation from it with these type of beers when it's done.

@@SimpleHomeBrew Cheers for the reply mate !!

@Dan Didnot Yes I do, almost always at the start then it stabilizes it never loses pressure even after weeks after it has finished fermenting.
