The overlap of people in this community that grew up with places like Hot Topic, remembered how much they spent there, and said “I can do that without the middleman.” Is staggering. 😂
@elizabethclaiborne64613 жыл бұрын
Hot topic was cheap knock offs of actual fashion from first class boutiques. Why wear crummy clothes when you can make a truly quality copy? If you think Hot Topic was legit, you need to go walk through a designer salon at Nordstrom or Saks and see the quality standards those clothes were originally made to.
@jackdaw77513 жыл бұрын
I skipped ahead and combined thrift with sewing instead. Admittedly we didn't actually get a hot topic until after I'd been doing it a while. But yeah...😆
@rd62033 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethclaiborne6461 Not disagreeing with your sentiment, but would like to point out that the answer to your "why?" is because most teens, and in fact a very many adults, cannot afford to shop at Saks or Nordstrom, nor can they afford that quality/quantity of material and often enough don't possess the ability to produce something of that quality. One can make the absolutely valid argument that practice makes perfect, but sometimes there are pretty valid reasons for that not happening.

Best part - the calf-to-ankle portion had zippers down the side seam & when opened, the pants got even WIDER in the leg with a panel of leopard print now exposed. I adored those pants, and I even still have them. Fashion trends going the way they are, it's looking like they'll be in fashion just as my daughter will be able to wear them! 😄 Anyway, I only got 1 minute in before I needed to comment this, so now off to watch the rest!

@@user-im6ms1me4y I don't think you get my point. No one can "steal" this idea from OP because it's not new and it's not original to OP. I'm not saying they can't try to make a hustle from it, I'm just pointing out that it can't be stolen since it was already stolen to begin with 😅. You can't patent an idea that you didn't originally come up with in the first place. Also, I'm fairly certain I don't need anyone pointing out that the 90s is making a come back, again. I'm 39 and let me go ahead and tell you that this is the *second* time SINCE the end of the 90s that the 90s has "made a come back". Nothing is original anymore. 🤷♀️ So sure, make a side hustle but don't try to claim anyone is stealing and idea that's not original to begin with.

as someone who loves both the victorian era/style and alternative style, this was extremely exciting to watch! I've recently gotten back into dressing more alternatively, Tripp pants being a big part of that, and I would die if I could get a piece like this in my wardrobe.
@the-inatorinator3 жыл бұрын
The more I think about it, the more Victorian Tripp pants actually make a lot of sense! Both historical and punk aesthetics originate from clothing that was both DIY and functional. They've both been modernized with time to meet changing needs of the wearer and maintain the more aesthetic elements of outdated functional features, but that handmade, utilitarian origin is still there. I mean, look how this project alone exemplifies that! All the different variations you showed off in those last few minutes. The massive pockets. The freedom of movement with the still "feminine" style. It's the most gorgeous cursed object I've ever seen in my life
@the-inatorinator3 жыл бұрын
Also I know that Tripp pants aren't necessarily punk but all alternative styles originate from punk in some way so shh

I am really intrigued by how well this mash-up worked. Despite the punk aesthetic, these are very practical with their pockets and mighty morphin design elements, and that really aligns with the concept of a walking skirt. I’m still curious to see how the rear gathers intersected with the through-the-leg pants bit.
