I have been through at least 40 hairdressers and have yet to walk out happy. I always have to wash & restyle my hair. They seem to be afraid to do anything drastic, even when asked. I also take a few photos of styles that have the same texture of hair as mine. They just trim, or trim a lot(version of drastic i guess). I end up cutting & colouring my own hair, on & off since i was 15.

@@MorganRoy I've been trying to 'explain' this very concept to my hairdresser for years. She is a very talented stylist and colorist which is why I stick with her. I'm going to bring it up one.more.time. to see if this video will help me get my point across. I have two 'vertical lines' on either side of my face which I feel closes my face in and makes it appear narrower than it is. I want my cheekbones cut out and the side pieces blended in with the forehead....just as you did here. Questions: do you have a salon and if so, where is it?

This educator is wonderful. The first thing I do in a consultation is pull the hair away from the face and assess the face shape. Before I cut, I assess the hairline and density.
@laura-loves-god5 жыл бұрын
This is a rare find! A hairdresser who actually looks at the client's face shape and takes so many things into consideration. Hairdressers I've been to in the past all seem to have their own preset ideas on what they think I should have and they take no notice of what I say. I also end up with so much of my hair being cut into the fringe, which isn't good when you have fine hair. They seem to pride themselves on the speed at which they cut hair and not the precision. I guess I'll just have to start cutting my hair myself again.
@MorganRoy5 жыл бұрын
Laura Biding I’m sorry that hear that you haven’t been able to find a good hairdresser that listens. As an educator this is why I share knowledge. Hopefully this video will help.

As a former hairdresser who used to get timed on haircuts( Great Clips is one such place) some hairstylists at some salons can't spend a lot of time on haircuts. We would have performance reviews and if our haircut average was off from what the company wanted, we could get written up or fired.

Why should I tell all of this to the hairdresser??? Isn’t that their job? Unfortunately most hairdressers I’ve been to don’t even look at your face shape, there’re just like ‘I’ll do what you want’ well hello I’m asking for YOUR advice, you’re the professional. I guess it’s reflected in the hairdressers price. No more cheaper hairdressers for me. They just do everything automatically.

@@kermittime6507 I'm sorry that's been your experience. I'm a cosmetologist. I do look at people's faces. Yes, we are the professionals. However, we are not mind readers. It's always a good idea to have a few photos of different styles you like then we can go from there and help you decide what will look good on you. Of course there are times when you will choose pictures that won't suit your hair color, texture, length, etc. but a good stylist can then explain why and make recommendations. Insider tip. Just because a salon is expensive versus a 'chop shop' does not guarantee that you're going to leave loving your new look or your cut/color. You need to ask what their actual experience and education are. Find people who have hair you love and ask them who they go to. Finally, I've been a Cosmetologist for 25 and have worked at both high and low end salons. Sometimes you will find a phenomenal stylist somewhere unexpected and get a horrible cut at a so-called high end place. Please ask people, even someone whose hair looks great in a grocery store, for a recommendation. Hope this helps. ❤️ ✂ ❤️

For me going to a hair salon is a nightmare. I know EXACTLY what I want, I know it'll look great on me, and yes, I know it's a bit "unusual", but it's my choice. Guess what I almost always end up with? A bleeegh haircut. 😾 I just cut my own fringe and I'm super happy. Hopefully my bff will cut the rest of my hair.
@kermittime65075 жыл бұрын
CL4H I am definitely not suggesting that it’s a hairdressers job to read my mind. Funny you say bring pictures. I already do that. And I know cases where a person explained very clearly with pictures what they want and what they do not want and ended up with exactly what they didn’t want. So how else am I supposed to talk to a hairdresser? That’s what I’m saying it doesn’t matter so much what the client explains, it’s a hairdressers job to assess your head and face shape type of your hair and how and what hair will suit the whole look.

This is the first time I've heard a hairdresser speak about checking out the client's hairline. This is so important, and yet it seems that hairdressers aren't trained in this. The "hairline" may be crooked, but as long as they cut the "hair" straight, then they're good to go.

What a difference this stylist made opening up her face with proper cutting of the bang...before the curtain was straight across making her look frumpy...but voila, the new bang was light airy, and made her look prettier! I think she needed to cut some of the length off to complete the look. Wow, short snips all the way down and along the side of the face made a big difference too. This was masterful. Great stylist, we more of you that know what you are doing to enhance the shape of the face. What a cute cut on the stylist too.

I must add your right in telling the hair dresser how you want to cut it because all hair dressers cut hair different Ive learned as an example if you go to an Asian hair dresser Ive learned they layer hair different then an American hair dresser does.The Asian hair dresser told me they cut it differently and I did like there cut better . tks for sharring great tips👍
