I hope this helps you have more confidence with cutting your bangs when you can't get to a stylist to do it. Did this help? I'd love to hear what your favorite tip was?? :)

Justin Hickox I just went in the bathroom and did exactly what you did on the video. The best tip was to just trim with a comb only the part above the high point of your brow. Then taper sides. 💕. They turned out perfectly!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS JUSTIN!!! I watched this video a few times, trying to decide if I could actually pull off trimming my own bangs. Well tonight I got tired of my bangs being to long and not being able to manage them, so I. Carefully followed your direction and trimmed them. They ate actually even! And manageable again! Thank you so much!!!!

I am also a licensed hairdresser, and I really like the way you help people do DIY. Some people cannot afford to get their hair done. I have done Pro bono work, because some people just need a lift and hair does that. I so enjoy your tutorials, Thanks for sharing. I love hairdressers that share and help the guys that can't afford the very best. Thanks.

Thank you so much for all this great information could you please tell me what or how to do if you do make the mistake in making your bangs wider across your face than what it should be how do I correct at a later date ? Because I have a hair dresser that she did doesn't always make the right decisions.
@justinhickox
@justinhickox 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! That’s a great question. The only way to correct that is to allow those side parts to grow. If you were to be trimming that at home you would just follow the process I showed where you comb your bangs straight down and cut what is in between the crest of your eyebrows. Does that make sense?

Just an idea on a subject, I have been coloring my own hair with superior preference by L'Oreal for 15 years. A health-conscious friend recommended I use a less harsh coloring method, Naturtint. I colored it two days ago and it turned out really well. We'll see how the next month goes and if I continue.

Thank you! I’m glad that approach helped you. I feel that this is the best approach to teach people how to do hair at their own home on themselves. It’s not the same with me showing you how I would do it on me it’s easier and more effective in my opinion to show you have someone else would do it on them selves.

I’ve not been to a salon in over 25 years. I gave up and have been cutting my own waist length hair myself. The one thing I’ve never been happy with is my bangs. The tips about where to start are SO helpful! I’ve been doing everything else right but starting with the wrong “foundation”! It will take time to correct my mistake but I so appreciate your guidance. Thank you so much!🙏🏻

Wow congrats on the fact you've been cutting your own hair all these years! I am about to leave my very good but becoming too expensive for me, hairstylist, now, age 53. I'm quite dextrous in arts/crafts but doing my own hair is another level. I've just pulled off Brad Mondo's Butterfly cut and it gave me an appetite to take it further. I'm loving it in fact!

@@Hana-su7zg I had to look up Brad Mondo's Butterfly cut! I looks like a great cut! I think I'd have to let my bangs grow out a bit for it to look good. As I've aged I've become more bold about what I do with scissors to my hair ; ) Thanks so much for the comment and the Mondo link! I may try it out with shorter bangs...what the heck!
@Hana-su7zg
@Hana-su7zg Жыл бұрын
@@mamalovesthebeach437 You can totally customize it, I have somewhat shorter bangs myself. The Butterfly cut is mainly to give you a very easy layered cut. But it's not perfect, it's just too simple. I'm already seeing less-than-perfect areas in it and watching loads of tutorials to learn to perfect it. Layering, point cutting, feather razors, all that stuff, how exciting! Collecting my hairdressing tools bit by bit. Never realized that it's actually fairly easy, once you learn what to do, all the sectioning, some clever hack techniques like the twist technique for the bangs etc. Wish I'd done it years ago but I guess all the DIY tutorials exploded thanks to the lockdowns. There are some great videos, check out wolf cut too, good luck and have fun 😄

Hey Barb! That’s a great question!!! I would default to wearing bangs that worked best for your face shape (I’m not sure if you’ve watched the other videos in this bangs playlists where I describe how to figure out your face shape and what bangs work best?). The only difference is, if your face shape requires a rounded bang, you could always leave the sides a bit longer (more of a dramatic angle) so they don’t sit right at the glasses arms length but actually a little longer if that makes sense.

I’ve got to say, the ones going across seem much more flattering on me. Thanks so much, Justin. I must do my bangs now, as I can’t get to my stylist due to a stay at home order. Stay safe! 😘

I a, like you C.M. Hall. I have to wear bangs. I have been fighting with my hairdresser for far to long and now I’m looking for a new one. I put a post on Facebook and I have gotten 0 responses. I’m so frustrated and upset. I have the cowlick too. I have a high forward. I love having straight bangs. He just won’t listen and does his thing and I end up cutting my bangs. I’m still watching but was looking for the texturing shears. I don’t get why someone who also just raised his prices without notice Won’t listen to me and what I want. Sorry for going on but I’m glad I’m not the only one with the issue and Justin you’re so easy to learn from. I have a few more to watch and will keep you on my bell. Nikki

Thank you so much! Welcome to the family. Unfortunately if they’re cut too short, your best option is to try to style them off your face a bit but it’s tough depending on how long they are. It’s a bit of a growing game unfortunately.

This is a great video. I can’t tell you how many times I have botched a bang job. My hair grows super fast and my bangs would grow out before I was ready to go to the salon. I quit wearing bangs because of this even though I do like the way I look with bangs more than without. Thanks again for the tips

Great video. I’ve been doing it all wrong! Lol my favorite tip was how to blow dry the bangs non directionally. I’m definitely going to do that from now on. Also thanks for the explanation on the texturizing sheers. Would love to get the ones you suggest. I’ve called to try to get a bang trim and sometimes it’s a week before they can get me in, so this really helps! 👍🏻

Hey Yoli! Thank you so much for the feedback and support! Definitely try that blowdrying technique and let me know how it goes for you! Can’t wait to hear! Stoked you found the insight on the shears helpful! Yes, for SURE, those shears are my favorite for breaking up the ends of hair and blending out bulk etc. I use them on almost every client I have for some reason or another. They’re amazing!!! Is there anything you’d like to see covered in a future video?

Thank you! I’m so glad I could help. I did a video on how to cut front layers. I’m not sure if you’ve seen that one yet? It would be the same technique that I would use for the shape you were asking about in Bob’s. With that said, I’m also doing an entire webinar on how to avoid mistakes with home haircuts and hair color. Have you had a chance to register for that yet?

Hi Justin, you really packed a whole bunch of great tips and tricks. I had bangs pretty much for all my childhood and to this day my hair wants to part in the same place straight down the middle of my face, bangs were a real chore to style right. The blow-drying techniques were great, I already blow-dry my hair in all different directions because it helps with taming particular parts but also with lift (or volume). The tip about angling the scissors when cutting was really helpful too. You’re awesome and thank you for having the visuals (model), it really helps. Sincerely, Your new lifetime subscriber :o) I have a 12 year old nephew with Autism and I’ve been the one consistently cutting his hair. I’ld absolutely be over the moon if you could do some videos on cutting & styling different looks for young male tweens or teens! Thanks in advance. :o)

That bit about non directional drying is amazing. I have just had a fringe (in the UK) cut but I have a really strong part and widows peak. Even the stylist couldn’t get it to sit right. Fortunately I remembered this video! What’s really weird is how the parting makes it bounce up. When I style it it’s a good length, in the morning it looks almost an inch shorter. 😜

All of this was helpful. I’ve been staying at home due to the plague. I have cut my bangs completely wrong - straight across cut, drying straight down, pulling them down with my fingers, and failing to cut the center section first. Fortunately my stylist had already given me bangs, so I didn’t cut too far to the sides. My bangs have grown out from my whacking. I’m going to try your way. More later.
