I just found your channel. Thank goodness for .75% speed. I started learning this rhythm for ballet set on my own a couple of days ago. I was getting all three dun hits with my right hand, your way makes so much more sense! (I play with K on my left) Thanks for this, it makes learning by myself much more enjoyable.

Nice playing. My only complaint is that it wasn't marked out correctly. The first and third accompaniments have 9 bars instead of 8. The call should have come one bar earlier in both.

I believe the call can come at any point during the piece. It doesnt have to be every eight or four bars. As long as the groove cycle resolve together at the end, then all is well in the world :)

@@simonelwell6989 Perhaps not every 4 or 8 bars (although I think that is a wise approach) but certainly not on a odd numbered bar. Only certain rhythms/dances have that off feeling by intention. I don't think Tiriba is one of them.

@markrutledge5855 Not sure why you are thinking the accompaniment cycles of the 1st & 3rd accompaniment have 9 bars? If you have my App MoRhythm-Africa you can see the notation. Those two accompaniment parts are 4 beats each 1&a2&a3&a4&a then they repeat. The dunun cycle is the same, so the signal can be played at the beginning of of any of those patterns.

@@morhythm I listened to it again and the 1st accompaniment has 8 full bars and then goes to a call. The call should come in on the 8th bar so that the 2nd accompaniment comes in the first bar. You are one cycle too late. I noticed that this happens on the 2nd accompaniment when the calls in one bar too soon (the 7th time through and not the 8th.) This doesn't really matter for drum practice but it does matter for the dance. And it matters for me because I am practicing bala to your playing and the bala patterns are two bars long so that you are cutting me off one bar too soon. Love the playing though!

​@@markrutledge5855 Correct, it does not matter for practicing the drum patterns, which is what it was made for. I was not counting measures, I was not playing to any melody, nor watching a choreography. I was just playing for drummers to listen and learn the djembe/dunun parts. It was not intended as a lesson, more of a sample to practice the parts and learn a new break. (The arrangement break and solo phrases were created by Mamady Keita, you can hear them on his CD Sila Laka).
