@Chris Carver I agree wholeheartedly that BD looks better. I'd still want to see how they compare in performance though as the morimoto ones appear to cost less than the BD.

I love these reviews but you are doing Diode dynamics a disservice by not giving more weight to the SAE rating. That is a significant advantage when it comes to overall usability of a light, not just off-road. Also, it would be great to see you introduce some kind of value rating because these things don’t all cost the same. Maybe a dollar per lux or something similar. Regardless, thank you and keep up the great work.

You seem to know what’s up. What would you do in my application. I have a tundra. It has two ss18 DD bars. One is driving and one is combo. I plan on adding ditch lights. Either bigbanger hxb combo or ss5 pro driving. I’m using them for rural highways where it’s mostly double divided, and some single undivided. Lots of wild life and in the winter it’s dark for 18+ hours.

Is there an in between brightness setting for the LEDs or just the amber?
@ericgonzalez83822 жыл бұрын
Really loving those 2bangers and really tempted to buy a pair. But here's a free new idea for you folks: just as the Holley Retrobrights, the classic car community would love something like these "banger" series but period-correct. Some of our old cars only have single pairs of round 7", 5x7" etc and it'd be great to complement that with some extra dedicated high beams or fog lights.

@@HeadlightRevolution I have a follow up on that...the rigid industries e2 20 hyperspot bar supposedly reaches up to 5.804ft thats just over a mile! that was 8 years ago, the bigbanger spot claims 1000m, can you do a comparison or bust this myth?!
@HeadlightRevolution2 жыл бұрын
Sure!
@aaronolsen87872 жыл бұрын
@@outsidendwoodworking5372 headlight revolution is incorrect here. If you are looking for the maximum distance and don't care about spread then the Vision X CG2 single LED light cannons in the 6.7" size and 8.7" size will both throw light farther then the BigBanger HXB spot. The Vision X ADV 8.7" cannon looks like it should throw light farther in a pair then the HXB BigBanger as well but that also is an 8" light vs 6" light. In this video they are also comparing the HXB combo BigBanger to the Diode Dynamics SS5 Pro combo which is the wrong comparison IMO. Even though it's the same name of beam pattern they are completely different. The BigBanger combo is a much closer comparison to the SS5 driving optic in beam height/width and overall shape. The SS5 Pro driving has 170,000 cd vs the SS5 Pro combo that has 75,000 cd. At 10:10 in this video they say the BigBanger HXB combo has 135,000 cd. So the SS5 Pro Driving is more intense and will shine farther while having a 30° wide by 20° tall beam pattern. But if you look at the morimoto website it says the combo HXB has 210,000 cd which does beat out the SS5 Pro driving pattern. I would also like to add that the SS5 is a 5.1" light so it is smaller than the BigBanger. The SS5 sport in spot beam has a possibly bigger spot pattern at 15° vs the BigBanger NCS that is a 5° hot spot and the HXB is likely similar. The SS5 sport spot has 406,000 cd and isn't just a strict pencil beam. The Rigid number for distance is at a ¼ lux which isn't very usable light. You need at least 1 lux (light at full moon) and some companies like BD say you need 10 lux (light at twighlight). You can convert the 1 lux measurements to 10 lux by dividing it by 3.1623. The Vison X CG2 6.7 has 10 lux at 949' and 1 lux at 3002' with a claimed 10° spot. The 8.7 CG2 has 10 lux at 1107' and 1 lux at 3501' with a claimed 10° spot. The Baja Designs LP9 Pro spot has 10 lux at 778' and 1 lux at 2460' with some 4° and some 6° optics. The Diode Dynamics SS5 Pro spot has a much larger 20° spot pattern so if suffers in distance with 10 lux at 559' and 1 lux at 1768' with 290,000 cd at 90w. The Diode Dynamics SS5 sport spot has 10 lux at 661' and 1 lux at 2090' with 406,000 cd at 40w with a 15° pattern. The Baja Designs XL Racer Edition has 10 lux at 674' and 1 lux at 2131' with 358,731 cd at 40w with a 4° spot pattern. The Rigid e series pro 20" hyperspot/spot has 10 lux at 782' and 1 lux at 2474' with a 14° pattern. The Rigid Q series hyperspot has 10 lux at 595' and lux at 1880' with a 9° spot pattern. The isolux plots show that the vision x cannons are a tighter pattern than 10° with the 6.7" having less spread then the 8.7". These 2 lights are probably the farthest shining lights on the planet for the size. I personally went with 4 Diode Dynamics SS5 sport's in spot to get a bit more spread but still a ton of distance. I came from 4 Vision x gen 1 4.7" 25w knock off cannons that had the same top binned luminus sst-90 chip that Vision x uses but the polycarbonate lens did not have the same clarity to it, so it was probably around 90% to 95% of what an actual vison x cannon was. The Vision X gen 1 25w cannon has 10 lux at 317' and 1 lux 1002' with a 10° spot pattern. These were my favourite as far as patterns go for all of the lights I've seen. Just enough spread to not seem like a pencil or tunnel effect of light and didn't waste light vertically. I wouldn't want any narrower as I've used 8° optics similar to the Rigid hyperspot and they are just too narrow. I've used the Baja Designs Lp9 Pro and they are also fantastic in the driving combo but the spot is very narrow as well but not as narrow as it sounds as they have reflector bowls instead of TIR optics or a lens like Rigid hyperspot so you get some spill lighting. The DD SS5 sport spot shines over twice as far as my knock off cannons did in real life so I trust the specs DD is providing. The 15° is nice for a bit of extra width but it does waste a bit of light vertically. Having said all this, I'd still like to try the BigBanger HXB spot to see how much farther it shines then my SS5 sports. 535,000 cd is no joke and should be a decent amount more distance then the SS5 sport at 406,000 cd. Although the vision x I'm guessing will shine farther yet and DD is coming out with an SS5 max laser that might just end up being the best of the best. We'll have to find out though.
