You HAVE to watch her performance at the Asia Song Festival in 2017, she does two songs incredibly well and it's live stage performance. She shows that she has great stage presence, and the second song she does is actually a mashup of Best of Your Love by the Emotions and Emotions by Mariah Carey; and yes, she covers the whistle notes - live - on stage in front of several thousand people, representing the Philippines.

I am not sure if Australia has Jollibee. South Africa certainly does not. USA has some. Now they have advertisements that come out on occasion. The writers of these adverts are so good. Last year Valentines Day they brought out a little series called VOW, CRUSH and DATE. It is definitely worth a watch. Caleb you are truly a master surgeon of the voice and vocal acumen! I found this song, while beautiful, somewhat amusing because Morisette will never have to worry about voicing those words, "Will you ever love me back?" She would be so easy to fall in love with! But each time I hear her voice she takes me back to the 70s (Way before your time) when I heard Minnie Rippington sing. At the time I thought no one would ever be able to match her intensity, but here is this lovely sitting on a bus killing it! Great reaction!

Again, a very good analysis of another wonderful singer. I especially enjoy when you take the to time to explain some of what the singers are doing to get the types of sounds that they product. One question that I have is when she hits the A6 you explained that she was probably using whistle voice for that. When I listen to Dimash and he sings up in the 6th octave, from what I remember he doesn't seem to using a whistle. Is this a style choice on their part?

Probably a stupid question that I should know the answer too. Why does Morisette's E6 whistle sound so different to Dimash's E6 "flageolet" or however it's labelled? Is it just a choice and they could both do either version or is it something to do with where their "whistle" (aka frequency rather than full tone as I hear it at least) starts? Really curious as it's such a specific talent to reach that register anyway and I'm just curious if it's a choice of how to deliver that note and they could switch and choose which version to do at that E6 or if it's actually more to do with oh so and so's head voice goes to this note and then whistle begins or something? Hope this rambling question makes sense! Love Morisette's voice it's so rich sounding especially for her being in her early 20's. Cheers

Good Question! Dimash on the E6's of his I have heard, his vocal cords are adducting in a normal way. Another way of saying it is that the technique he uses is similar to his head voice technique, it is just much higher. Whistle voice doesn't use proper vocal cord adduction like the other registers. It is done by learning to block the vocal cords and skim the air off the very top of them (this is oversimplifying it but you get the idea) to create that high pitch sound. I believe that Morisette is using whistle voice not her head voice. That is why it has less power and a different tone to it. Flageolet is just the term for a very high extension of the falsetto range, this term is used because sonically it doesn't share the same breathy quality falsetto is known for, and to achieve very high notes there needs to be very little air leakage. In other words, flageolet is the highest extension of the head voice or falsetto range that requires a very good technique to be able to use.
