Black metal legends Mork have announced details of their new album 'Syv', the 7th Chapter in the saga of the Norwegian black metal legends. Alongside the news, the band reveal the album’s first single ‘Utbrent’. Speaking about the new single, Mork creator, frontman and mastermind Thomas Eriksen said “Utbrent is a depiction of getting burnt out and the struggle of holding oneself standing. Even whilst silently knowing the day will actually come and break you down…the harsh punishment of living as life breaks you down and burns you out”.
Performed, recorded & mixed by Thomas Eriksen, with engineering assisted by Freddy Holm, mastering carried out by studio mastering guru Maor Appelbaum (Sepultura) in collaboration with Jack Control at Enormous Door (Darkthrone).

I like much of what Mork has produced, and I VERY much appreciate the streaming concert that Thomas did during COVID, but I must disagree with Peaceville’s marketing claim that Mork are “legends.” Thomas has chosen an inoffensive path with little distinction. Much of Mork’s catalogue strikes me as extreme metal, but not true black metal. This song, for example, reminds me of recent Darkthrone. The current Norwegian black metal band that I think will one day be truly legendary is Whoredom Rife. They are unquestionably playing black metal, and their songwriting continues to evolve and mature.
