Just going to say, I sat by a former employee of Kirtin McConkie, at an exmo event, they clearly had serious PTSD from working there, the helpline was what they worked with

The support was great, advised the bishop effectively and applying perspective in the appropriate context. I was a bishop and got great advice when I needed it. There were also times I did just contact the police, without requiring the helpline. It helped that I trained as a social worker and had some relevant background knowledge. The church does actually do a good job in protecting the child. There are so many that are dealt with effectively. We also have great procedures: our church membership records follow every member around their whole life. Their previous bishop can make notes on their records and be contacted by their new bishops. Most churches have no such systems to track predator's.

I'm currently a Branch President. My experience of the abuse line is its not great. However I'm a little suspicious that you video yourself making the call and unable to fully disclose basic information. I'd take the abuse case straight to the Police. And I recently have done so regardless of the Church or its helpline. It's the right thing to do.

This church is a corporation, and as we should know, corporations are mainly concerned with profit above everything else. All of them have departments of liability control. This is the entity who is the so-called "abuse hotline".

I thought it was a helpful call until I realized this situation carries little to no risk for the Church’s reputation. If the accusation were against an adult - especially a prominent leader - would the solicitor have suggested the recourse of calling the police?

I think you should study the Arizona case a bit more. The mother kept saying nothing was happening. The fist bishop thought it was a one off. The 2nd Bishop didnt know anything else was happening. because the mother wasnt honest about it. The man had been excommunicated from the church, so I assume the first bishop did that. I thought the guy was in law enforcement, though I could be wrong. If he was, what was their responsibility? They had more interaction with the guy than the church had.

Apparently so. As long as their is no imminent danger or threat to life then you have to get permission from the 'senior brethren' to go to the police.

It was an initial call, and going to the families would be the process for emotional support. As you will also notice the bishop wasnt too forthcoming, so not giving much and the support line was also trying to be helpful to the bishop. For the situation the support line was there and effective. The priority was to protect the child first. Getting the parents involved was the first and most important step. Maybe you should see the context and perspective before jumping to conclusions. It seems like you want the adviser to get it wrong so you can blame the chruch.

They already have police though. Ya dont need a high ranking church dude to tell ya to go to the parents xD any 4 year has THAT mental capacity. The church hotline is a complete JOKE...
