Some of you guys need to take it easy, this is real sensitive for Jared and hes being vulnerable in this situation. I am sure he could have said worst things about Teal, but out respect he kept it neutral. Some people in chat are judging him a little too far, when hes just being honest sharing his experience and his story.

@@tianna1116 yeah I keep coming back here to like the supportive comments because I’ve seen to many people taking what he’s said completely out of context and seemingly accusing him of things on other videos based on what he said here that I’m hoping are just coming from misunderstandings. Thank you to both of you for this amazing podcast! I have limited experience with Teal. I had two friends who were part of her inner circle and I was asked by her business manager to help organize one of her public events back in 2012. There is honestly so much I could say, but I will limit it to this... 1. From the limited exposure I've had of her, I do think she teaches some things that could be valuable to certain people. 2. I also think she teaches some things are extremely dangerous for other types of people. 3. One of my friends loved and adored her, and encouraged me to go have one-on-one sessions with her. (I didn't.) 4. Teal forced the ritual abuse narrative on my other friend, who was only 20 at the time, and it was extremely damaging to her psychologically. She also shared with me that Teal was manipulative and controlling, fame-obsessed, and deceitful. Like Jared, ultimately my friend also went to the psyche ward after her friendship with Teal ended. 5. My personal impression of Teal is that she is very cold. She claims to want to make the world better and help and serve people, but I really feel that her main focus is helping and serving herself. I love Jared's perspectives on the whole experience he had with her. And I appreciate his vulnerability in expressing himself. Great podcast.

A very sound comment, and relying on a true experience. I agree about Teal Swan's apparently heartless and emotionless attitude. Her videos are a show of her physical beauty. My feeling, and I don't owe anybody any kind of hypocrisy on my side, is that one of feeling absolutely nothing while listening to her. She doesn't open any kind of door from deep down her heart. I can only guess that if she's sort of messianic, it's because she herself went through something gross that doesn't help her transcend the screen. Greetings from Argentina.

I learned a lot from these episodes with Jared. What a beautiful soul he is, I wish him and his daughter the best in this world. His courage, his emotional intelligence and strength are amazing. He shifted my whole way of thinking for the better. I will remember this my whole life. And I really admire the way he thinks and talks about Teal too, it could've been much different but we can see he is a healing person. I just wish the interviewer wasn't interrupting him the whole time and trying to direct the episode with a narrative in mind. But I admire him too, I aspire to become a great psychologist like him as well. Much love people

His premise of doing only what you enjoy seems questionable to me. Pain can tell you what problems need to be solved. Facing the pain and going through the pain involves a lot of emotional and practical steps. To imagine you should only do things from a place of joy is unreal. Speaking up against vigilantes and moving against deranged destroyers is not necessarily just for people who enjoy it and can do it in a great and funny way. What he is discussing is difficult to articulate clearly. If I criticize and attempt to engage in an open dialogue about it, he has to deal with the pain of being criticized or challenged. If that is his chosen experience. Based upon a core belief about arguing or criticism induces pain and is therefore bad. We can all go into philosophical tangents. Some people fix rigid rules for themselves. Imagine telling people just do what you feel joy doing only and many problems are not your business or responsibility. People make different choices. It’s good that some people choose to live their best life. And it is good that some people notice suffering and work to help. And that work may not be joyful all the time. It may be excruciating and you keep going anyway. But you might find a peace that surpasses understanding. Another thing is when he says that change comes from inside yourself only. Really humanistic. Others believe the exact opposite. That blessings and gifts and talents and inspiration comes from a higher power that is outside the self and not you. So maybe that is the Spence he discusses. The unity with a Holy Spirit who does for you what you cannot do for yourself. Who works through you to help others. Yea what he says people are so afraid in this world. There is so much cruelty and hatred and judgement. So he says it isn’t for him to be combative or destructive against certain people or groups he disagrees with, but when he says he has to do his own role and can’t engage in certain things, it is upsetting also. We feel helpless. Wish we could do more. Oh yea. Spiritual abuse is so hard to reconcile. Devastation. And seeing others abused like that and especially not doing anything about it or feeling helpless or too frightened , so feeling cowardly. He won’t engage in a reasoned deliberation about Teals beliefs or behavior. Somehow we missed the story. Just vague. Maybe he is withholding something and just pontificating with empty rhetoric. He said he wanted to help teal. This is so unsatisfying because there is no story. I believe people can be reasoned out of cults but you have to be able to engage by discussing the specific beliefs. Rational argument.

It's called having boundaries. Most self-proclaimed empaths don't know how to hold healthy boundaries. There's no reason why anyone should feel or hold someone else's pain. You can sympathize but other people's feelings are theirs not yours. It seems a bit disrespectful to me to "feel" someone else's feelings, at that point you're making it about you and not them.

I just want to point out something here from an objective point of view based on integrity and sacredness of all souls in the universe: Someone telling you to “kill your self” in a relationship or online stranger, is never about you or for your growth. It’s about the growth that is needed in the one who told you that. We experience both what we are, and what we are not in order to truly fall in love with the Self, return back to the origins of our loving awareness watching the world. It’s a relative universe and that’s why right and wrong do exist in dualism. Nobody should EVER say “kill yourself” to others and it’s been said a few times by her he said and others have came out about.

This “false memories” thing reminds me of the experience of the Knights Templar when they were captured, abusively interrogated, and tortured to confess to suggested sins and crimes. Humans are very suggestible to begin with, and they become more suggestible when abused, roughly and repetitiously interrogated, and/or tortured. Who knows what they really did, as these techniques are highly oppressive. Jared’s story makes me think of a pleasure/pain pendulum swinging from one wide to another. When in so much pain, a desire for pleasure is so strong, and human beings will do or say anything to stop pain and restore pleasure. Then when in a great deal of pleasure, a thought of unworthiness brings on a desire for pain. Rising above the pleasure/pain pendulum into more consistent experiences can really help to get off those deep ups and downs. Getting a job or project, committed relationships, and creating a regular routine is very helpful.

Wow what an intense interview. Thank you! I only recently heard about Teal Swan this month. I watched some videos online some I enjoyed, others not so much. When I explored older content and interviews, Teal seemed "off" with moments of inappropriate laughter and odd ramblings. Then I heard about her backstory and life long issues with interpersonal relationships: friends, family, inner circle, etc. I got the feeling she trauma bonds with sensitive people who are at a low point in their life and truly vulnerable. Teal Swan is emotionally abusive and manipulative to those closest to her. To me Jared shows signs of post trauma from an abusive relationship, what a brave soul to share his story. It would be interesting to see a follow up, since it's two years later. I truly hope he has furthered healed. As for Teal Swan it's obvious something is going on with her: past trauma, mental illness, personality disorder, etc but there is so much delusional psychosis mixed in. She really needs proper treatment so she doesn't continue to emotionally manipulate/abuse those closest to her. Teal Swan's past trauma and "Shadow" work is no excuse to allow her to be an abuser herself. Thank you for an outstanding 4 part podcast.

Yes it’s true I used to idealize Teal also, but she said things that made me not be able to respect her such as calling herself an alien and saying it’s not her fault she isn’t perfect and “screw everyone who are against her.” When the truth is that she is an example to many people, as a self- acclaimed spiritual leader. Spiritual is not just about thinking deeply, it is about behavior and actions too. And if she tells people that they should do what they want to make them happy- such as watching shows and eating chocolate and masturbating etc. sounds like she just wants to keep them infantilized and not have true autonomy which comes with finding the true purpose of life. No one should be made on top of others, especially if they are not working on themselves / don’t take responsibility for themselves and lack humility.

I do also feel it is appropriate to feel these emotions when you need to and having people come around you to valid your feelings are good things. The asking why thing will be really useful for me during introspection. I hadn't thought to do this and I'm glad he shared this. This guy is cool. I like him. He's trying to be as authentic as possible, the thing Teal claims to be and fails miserably at. He is humbled and a good person who is realistic about where he's at and I respect him. I feel that he gained a lot in wisdom through his difficult experiences.

If anyone watched this and now thinks being vegan is unhealthy, I just want to share that it is totally possible to be completely vegan / plant based and super healthy! In the first interview, he mentioned that he went raw without any nutritional guidance and was eating too little and just having apples. THAT is what leads to B vitamin deficiency and being underweight. I went vegan in 1999 and have never been deficient in any vitamins, and my health is perfect. It's about making sure to eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, pulses, nuts, seeds and grains, while supplementing whatever isn't naturally in our diets. It's kind of sad when people starve themselves or restrict their eating on a vegan diet, then make it sound like veganism made them unhealthy...

You shouldn’t need supplements in order to be healthy. That alone should tell you it is not natural to be vegan. Do it for moral reasons that’s fine, but it is not the way humans should eat 24/7.

Wow...I have so much I'd like to say about this!!! It increasingly seems to me that the world is divided into narcissistic types and gentler folks, vulnerable to their machinations. ...and here I am, my life having been transformed through abusive relationships - with a crystal in my bra :-) My healing came about through meditation, visualisation and expressive art, after I realised that talk counselling was keeping me stuck in the the stories of what had happened... And so now I work as an intuitive energy healer, having been an an artist before... I have no online presence - I come across Teal Swan's videos from time to time so know of her... and Jared, I'm sorry you went through all you have. I applaud you for finding your way --- as a healer I see exactly that as my role, to help others find their way, to their own truth and way of being, unfettered by the past or others 'knowing' I have no online presence because I know first hand how narcissistic the 'healing' community can be. This is the direction my life is flowing in and yet I have so much resistance. I love the work I do and the results on my clients lives are profound, but yet I have a huge reluctance to going internet public. Jared, you summed it up all so perfectly in this interview - the way home to yourself is through you knowing, experiencing and accepting your personal power...to put yourself back at the centre of your own life, and being able to be that in every moment. This is the essence of my healing and what I hope to lead my clients to! I work with homeless humans often and one of the main stories I've encountered for the folks becoming homeless is the ending of a significant relationship --- We really are very vulnerable creatures - @jareddobson, thank you so much for showing us YOU...keep going!!!

I also love EFT for helping process & release my emotions. I agree with being vulnerable and sharing our feelings instead of trying to work everything out in our minds. Sharing definitely half’s the intensity and can help ground us in our bodies. I love the way Jared said he now communicates with his daughter, I think that kind of open communication is so valuable for children’s developing brains.

I was engrossed with this interview until the second half when there was what felt like a shocking shift towards treating all empathy as projection. Empathy is something that is NOT the root of all evil. It is his inability to empathize that he battles with, but it is not healthy to reject this important trait. Finding values and fighting for them is not unhealthy...living out your trauma on others is. He is continuing to use black-and-white thinking. Using his example of someone being killed in front of me: I can see this occurring and intervene. This can be because my values drive me to operate that everyone has the right to not be killed, full stop. Putting yourself in another's shoes is incredibly important. Standing up for what is right is not evil or projecting. It might be overhyped lately to be an "empath", which is just ego trying to communicate what others perceive as a valuable trait. Being empathetic is not a trend or even seen just in humans. This guy has some wounds still festering.

100%. I was going to comment this exact thing. He’s also using another harmful tactic which is saying that there’s no use being for or against anything because it’s projecting your own resentments. That’s nonsense.

I’m disappointed that the interviewer didn’t push back on that. It’s unhealthy thinking. It’s avoiding your authentic reactions out of fear of vulnerability. He’s a people pleaser and this is his new justification for those tendencies. He’s almost weaponized therapy-speak against himself to keep him from being able to express himself.

If someone is jailed because of false accusations by a brainwashed person, that is point blank wrong. No one is asking Jared to be miserable on that person’s behalf, but simply to acknowledge that Teal’s alleged brainwashing of her followers (I don’t follow this stuff enough to have formed a view) is not ok. The way he swings wildly when asked if it’s wrong feels a lot like trying to wash his hands of something he was a part of endorsing. If no one ever acted from a place of outrage some of history’s greatest human rights atrocities would’ve continued. The reason so many do continue is because of apathy. Saying animal rights activists are just projecting their own feelings of guilt onto animal abusers is nonsense. It’s called empathy. Not the spiritual empath concept. Basic human empathy.

As an empath, going to a psych hospital was an absolute nightmare. I was hospitalized and they put me on Celexa. It almost killed me quite literally. I could barely go to group therapy because I would walk out worried about everyone else and more traumatized. I don't really have regrets because it changed my life because of the people I met there. I just want to say don't give up hope! I know it can help others. I just needed to be shielded from that energy and grounded, so I didn't absorb it. I think I walked out of there on 5 different medications which was ridiculous. Gratefully, after therapy and Codependents Anonymous, I am in a better place. If you're reading this, you matter! I have lost 3 loved ones to suicide, and I can't even tell you how much I miss them! You mean far more than you will ever know! Sending love and healing!

Not everyone can express theyr thoughts in a way that is easy to palett a d Jared does try to relativise hardcore stuff here. I understand what he means, a d I understand how many ppl can be extremly triggered by what he is saying. There is still some potential harmfull belives that seem to persist. Like forgiveness.

It's weird, but everything he says he learned when he went out of the cult is really similar to what I find in Teal Swan videos, this mechanics of your own psychology solving itself that most of people would agree with, but sometimes, in hard moments, we need to hear them with other people's words to reconnect to our own logic. I don't know if she is in a better situation than when this video was made or if she is sharing a method that is not the one she uses in her community. I don't like to take my life too psychologically, too full of tiny problems. But when there's this big feeling, pattern or something that make my life stuck, Teal Swan videos inspire me to find resources, motivation and dedication from myself to myself. I'm in the group of people that when first saw her felt weird and saw something suspicious in her, not in the group that find her charismatic from the first moment. But aside from her weird vibe, she gave me helpful methods to feel I'm solving things with my own creativity and commited to myself, and when that happens, believing if she was right or wrong in her life, how her childhood was or if she is superpowerful is a complitelly unrelated subject.
