Brill vid as usual 👍 The dark peak moors are managed. As with most high moorlands, they are managed for one thing only, Grouse Shooting, which brings in thousands and thousands of pounds. The patchworks you mentioned, it's where the heather is cut down to encourage new green shoots, on which the grouse feed. Also controlled heather burning is another method. The grouse can feed and find cover the uncut heather for protection. BTW. The lakes you can see are all Ladybower Res. Just look at your paper map.😉. You can't see Derwent Res, That starts just after Fairholmes 2.5miles into the Derwent valley where the famous Derwent Dam is 😊

@@wanderingwhere If you haven't driven up the Derwent Valley yet, it worth the trip. . There a car park at Fairholmes. it's usually busy most days. It's a very short walk to the 1st dam. The famous Derwent Dam. You can drive to the very end, to the turning point. around 8 mile's from the A57. There are some places you can park for a short while. The road is closed to traffic, every Sat, Sun. and all bank holidays. If you want to do some thing different, there's a cycle hire shop at Fairholmes 😉🤣

@wanderingwhere I'm not a car camper or van lifer....quite the opposite. I'm a disabled woman in her late 60s. Only discovered this Vanlife thing in June! I live in Sheffield - I don't drive. A disabled friend and I have been going for a "gawp" at the scenery in the Peak District once a week for about 25 years. The bit at Blue John is a place we regularly park (on the turning circle) - to just sit and BE! We used to go for a little wander to hummock sit surrounded by sheep usually but now neither of us can walk far so we stay in the car mostly. . So in June I noticed a van at the turning circle. Not seen anything like it before. It looked like this guy was living in his van. He had his name written on the van - Manchester Vanlife! I Googled when I got home, found him on KZbin and since then I've been hooked on vanlife and car camping vids. Only found your channel a week ago Adam. I'm blitzing my way through your story so far. Loving it, love the banter. Love the trails. Love the cooking. I'm virtually housebound (and I hate it). Depression is sadly a constant companion for me now. I miss my life as it was. So, you help to raise me up and I thank you. 💖 About 30 years ago when I could walk a boyfriend and I used to go walking - never did find the crashed plane so your video on that was just wonderful. A HUGE thank you to you, Manchester Vanlife and all the others I've found who make this type of content that's become part of my escapism from the misery of the four walls. Best wishes, Julie.

But, I'm a fair weather overnighter only! I'm turning 60 this August so a bit more delicate! Just kidding. Day trips with the camp cooker until I get my confidence driving this "bus" by comparison!
