Germinating Morning Glory Seeds - Morning Glories are wonderful plants that produce a lot of big, beautiful flowers and can grow to 12’ tall. They are excellent climbers and do well along columns, fences, trees or with added support trellises. They are very easy seeds to grow, but they do require a different technique. To germinate morning glory seeds, first take at least 12” of a paper towel and soak it with water. Place the desired number of seeds onto the wet paper towel and fold the paper towel over the seeds, in essence making a sandwich (you can fold multiple times for a more stable environment. Place the wet paper towel in a humidity dome or somewhere warm, but not in sunlight. It is important to make sure the paper towel stays wet through germination, generally 2-3 days, so check it daily and add water if it feels dry. After 48 hours, open the paper towel and check the seeds. The seeds should have roots starting to grow; if they do not fold them back up and check the next day. For any seeds that do have roots started, gently remove them from the paper towel and plant in a small cell ¾” below the surface with the roots facing down. Cover with potting mix/soil, water, and the plants should break the surface of the soil in a few days. Continue to grow until the plant is big enough to transplant outside or into its desired container. You can transplant multiple plants per container, I’ll usually put 3 plants in a 14” pot. Water when dry, and fertilize once weekly. Thanks for tuning in to my home gardening channel, Farmer Brad the Gardener!
