Hi Aaron, I could hear you in Australia tonight VK3 on 40m and 30m, 559 on 40m and 319 on 30m. Cheers VK3ACU

Wow!! That’s a good distance! I was running 5 watts into an Alex Loop magloop antenna. Did you try to come back to me?
@VK3ACU3 ай бұрын
@@w4arb I tried to come back to you on 30m with no luck. On 40m I missed you I didn't quite have time to tune up (manually). I will try again next time I hear you. Your mag loop and 5watts is working great. Cheers Jordan 👍

Thanks for trying! I think I may have heard a partial of your call. Catch you soon. 73

I wonder if I am at a picnic table that has a small metal roof over the shelter, how close can I be before it may be harder to tune? My EFHW is much longer, seems to be no noticeable interaction. It would be a fun test to see, I bet the Alex Loop would be just fine. Dave - KU9L

It may have some effect as far as reflecting/blocking, but as long as you have 3’ or so clearance on all sides of the antenna, SWR shouldn’t be affected. :)

Arron what is the difference between your two Alex loop’s.Looks like two different capacitor boxes.
@w4arbАй бұрын
The one I’m using in newer videos is the newer model. It’s a different tuning box/capacitor and easier to tune, with reduction gearing and a band indication dial. But performance wise, they’re the same thing. :)

Can’t you tune it using the tuning LED on the loop box?
@FM-us3rd3 ай бұрын
Hello, so I have an Alexloop as well and you can use the led light on the tuning box, the brighter it will become when you are in tune, the brighter the better. But you can not see the actual SWR reading using the just the LED, also using a loop to tune 40M is very precise. Its a small sliver of frequency, 20M is much easier to tune on a loop. An SWR meter is the best way to ensure you are tuned properly when using an Alexloop.
@w4arb3 ай бұрын
Yep, the tuning light does give a close indication, but the light looks like SWR is good for anything under 3:1 or so. I would use the light if I didn’t have an SWR meter on my rig, but I like to get it as low as possible. 73!

I think the Alex Loop works well for closer-in contacts. Thanks for the contact! 73

Hah!! It’s a trendy phrase. 😅 For me, it’s just a reason for antenna choice
