The ship lost power. It hit a pillar that held the bridge up. Many ships go under the bridge a day, there is no portion of the bridge that goes up for the ships to pass underneath it. Someone on the ship was able to reach someone on shore before the ship hit the bridge to warn them to stop traffic to the bridge. Traffic was stopped.❤

The cargo ship was fully loaded and is approximately three football fields long. It lost power and hit a support stanchion. They were able to contact people on shore to warn them to stop cars from continuing to cross the bridge! That's why there are not more fatalities.
