When my son was born 27 years ago, we didn’t have those handy dandy swaddlers, but one of the first things that all of us new parents were taught was how to swaddle with a blanket. Since newborns are suddenly “released” into a strange, unfamiliar, and unconstricted place, swaddling gives them a familiar feeling of comfort that is similar to the environment that they had in the womb. It soothes them and they sleep better. I had a terrible time trying to swaddle my son, so having these seems much more convenient. Once the baby wakes up, and they are unswaddled, the stretching they do is a natural reflex; as adults, stretching is something we still do to help us wake up and get moving. When a baby is big enough, and mobile enough to work their way out of the swaddling blanket, or grows out of the zippered or Velcro swaddlers, then it’s time to discontinue swaddling.😊

I thought it was the other way around. I’ve seen videos of babies from other countries that show them with tons of clothing on them especially newborns dressed to leave the hospital. I often wonder don’t the babies get overheated with all those clothes on them. Not so much American babies, usually they are dressed in a onesie and a beanie and put in the car seat with or without a blanket depending on the weather.
