Trying Moroccan Food in America with my Mom at Shokran restaurant in Chicago, a taste of Morocco in America. After Traveling from Morocco, I have had a taste for Moroccan food, we were luck enough to have the authentic Shokran restaurant to ease our cravings. Shokran is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. and an attraction for anyone in the neighborhood. You walk right into a cozy place decorated with images of Moroccan culture, Moroccan lamps, and even a bedouin tent. Our host was a Moroccan scholar, working his way through his degrees in America. He has traveled through Morocco, from Fez, Meknes, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, all the way down to Dahkla. Truly an experienced Moroccan traveler.
We visited a Moroccan restaurant in Chicago, Shokran, where they serve authentic Moroccan cuisine. We went there with my Mom, so she can have true Moroccan food experience. We ordered:
- chicken bastilla $11
- seafood briwat $7
- harira soup $4
- lamb tajine $20
- sweet chicken couscous $18
- Moroccan mint tea $3
- Moroccan bread
- Moroccan olives
- Moroccan harissa

Located in Albany Park, Shokran restaurant is renowned with Michelin guides as well as local TV personalities featuring it on their shows in Chicago, such as Check Please. It was featured in the book 1001 Restaurant experiences to have. This is not your bohemian kitchen, it is an authentic experience which highlights the diversity and rich history of Morocco, taking influence from the cultures and diversity of the Moroccan kitchen. I am Moroccan as well I live in Michigan. You guys are fun and cool people. My husband is Latino him and his family wouldn’t mind to eat chicken tagin, bastilla and Harira everyday. I visited Chicago many time I never knew about this restaurant. I’ve been to Andalouse Moroccan restaurants they have very tasty Moroccan food. I hope they didn’t close during this pandemic.
