Yeah, they are nice down at my local Morrisons. The phone cut off when I handed the coin over, annoyingly. Im getting a body worn camera to sort that problem out. She started ranting about phoning the police as reporting it as a drive off. I left the coin and said I'd paid.

The mobile phone being a hazard is a myth. The ignition on the car or a faulty wire is more likely to cause an explosion. In any case, filming on a mobile does not generate an electric current.

Reason is why spark may occur, is tha you have fleece clothes and lean in to get your phone in your car, and rubbing on the upholstery, creating static electricity. when grabbing the nossel of the petrol-hose there is a chance of spark. but petrol won´t ignite there, E85 might, but not regular petrol. And absolutely not diesel, it is not really flamable...

Its odd that people in the UK think a mobile phone or a running engine can blow fuel up, where I live we can't fill our own cars and we have to use a pump attendant. Its hot where I live and everyone sits in their car with engine and a/c running while filling up and also using their phones, I have never heard a single story of a gas station blowing up.

There is no legislation saying you cannot use a phone in the kiosk or other areas of a filling station. Its best not to whilst filling up as it could be a distraction.

But legally, payment is made and accepted as she confirmed this in here statement but then incorrectly advised it would be a default. With this being a legal matter not a lawful matter, I don't think the police will have arrested on this occasion as they tried that last time and come up with nothing!

Genuine question. I've been house bound for six years. During that time I have paid only on-line( for obvious reasons ). However, I have also managed to save-up money. It is all in paper currency. So what do I do? Do I try to put it in a bank? Seems strange that Royal Mint sell these high value commemorative coins , that you can't use. Why print £100 on the coin, if it has no value. I've got a few £5 coins , never assumed I couldn't spend them.

I spoke to the Royal Mint today and they said there is an agreement that £5 coins can be exchanged for goods and services at main Post offices but not the £100, £50 & £20 coins.

For anyone thats interested, mobile phones used on forecourts do not pose a risk of explosion, what it can do however is alter the pump metering so that the erratic display could mean that you end up with more fuel than you pay for. And thats coming from a chief fire officer.

I was only using the phone as a camera anyway. I guess the argument about using a phone at the garage is about transmitting microwaves. They cwrtainately dont objectvto having a phone in the pocket or bag so her objection to me using a phone on the forecourt was prejudiced by me filming her and paying with the coin.

A Royal Mint spokesman said: 'Banks have never been obliged to accept face value coins, although some may have decided to do so at their own discretion. 'Legal tender allows UK coins to be accepted for payment of debts in court, but only circulating legal tender coins are designed to be spent and traded at businesses and banks.' However their website states that the can be used with no limit of £100, £50 and £20 coins. The Mint needs to be sued under consumer law for false advertising and misleading the Public!

Great interaction with petrol station staff who in the end recognised the coins legal tender status. @@jamesbyford7614 ok i will admit technically you are correct regarding a petrol station regarding the "public space" if your just doing some random video, I wont delete the comment as admitting summit is better then hiding it, But it is legal to record evidence if you "feel" you have a legal challenge against the said persons or organisation, and thats the approach the uploader is taking as challenging the legalities of "legal tender" And i know the law states the retailer can refuse any form of payment they choose but thats the loophole thats being argued, So he still has every right to do the recording, until a magistrate or judge tells him their is no case and the court and the police put some form of order on him prohibiting him from making any further recordings

@@jamesbyford7614 not saying i would do it myself at all, but the law is clear to record evidence if "you feel" and that is the key word "feel" a offence is occurring and it is safe to to do, as you could then take it to court personally via your solicitor, like i say the police and/or the courts need to decide and put a order in place, The police could issue a asbo to only attend with accepted forms of payment and to contact the garage to confirm what they accept if unsure, do it again and then thru process goes to magistrates who issue order to stop filming and acting in a unacceptable manner in a business, Then breach that and prob moved on to crown etc, The police i have seen have not been impressed and i do understand that as argueing over some cash in a petrol station aint really what they are intended for, They are the ones who have the power to do something tho, My point is the law says if you FEEL a offence is occurring you are allowed to record in gathering potential useful evidence for prosecution, And i know that law is written for more serious offences however it is what it is

He was in no way being aggressive or abusive, which is (quite correctly) the behaviour which shop workers do not have to tolerate. She was actually being negative in tone and also dismissive when he went back in. I don't blame him for filming and attempting to explain to her that he was filming because he might need evidence of trying to pay for the fuel, which he did with both card and then the legal tender coins. Considering she had already admitting to logging him as a "drive off" which he absolutely was not since his vehicle was still on the forecourt, I think he was quite wise to film it. I respectfully suggest that your label of 'jobsworth' is directed at the wrong person.
