Andrew Evans who says that???? There are too many songs that bass players play a leading role throughout!! Do u remember Gang of Four, or Joy Division??? Were their bass players underrated??? Don’t think so!!!! Just stop this view!!!! You should have already known that the majority of the Iron Maiden songs, has been written by Steve Harris!!!!????? Shouldn’t you?????????

I know a lot of people always wonder what really went down between Marr and Moz, and here is what I found through some ahem, thorough research. I think they were great friends at first, great mates. But at some point, I do believe Moz was in love with Johnny. Whether it was reciprocated is debatable. Songs like angel angel, and a handful of smiths songs practically tell the story. It's just a shame that the two of them cannot seem to find some common ground and be friends again. I believe someone's feelings got really hurt beyond repair. Either way, I adore the music that we have from their friendship and what have you. They gave us amazing music from whatever angst was going on in so many songs.

I know we're two years on but do you have ANY sources for this at all? It's widely known that Marr left as he became Morrissey's manager and all-round shit sorter and it's widely speculated that Morrissey's gay but no amount of research I've done has lead me to find any unpublished diaries that express this 😂
@ItsNotaTuhmah
@ItsNotaTuhmah 4 жыл бұрын
@@thewildmitchell Back in the day there were all sort of rumors. One of them - a frequent one - was that Marr and Morrissey were more than mere friends when the band started, although no couple. They decided to leave it be and continued as friends/bandmates. About the band's demise, Marr left. He probably was just tired.

Andy Rourke has made mention several times of the influence of bassist Mick Karn from the band Japan on his style. "I rate Rourke’s creative bass playing almost as highly as I do Mick Karn’s of Japan, and funnily enough, in the book, Marr and Rourke’s trip to see Japan play live in Manchester is recounted. It made a huge impression on Rourke, who said Karn influenced the way he came to play bass." "AR: Mick Karn was fucking amazing. I bought all the albums and tried to emulate everything that he did. He was a real musician and they were true New Romantics. I preferred the more guitar-like earlier albums, especially Adolescent Sex. Real musical landscapes.

With all respect, I wouldn't want them to reform. I've followed them since their formation, and listened to little else in all that time. The magic of The Smiths is that they broke up when they did - whilst at the top. We can all dream but I hope and believe that's all it will ever be.

I agree. I also fear that for example had Ian Curtis not died, Joy Division would not be so widely appreciated today. A band breaking up/dissolving may seem painful at first, but really it adds a certain magic to their songs and consolidates their position in musical history.

But think about how fragile masculinity is even today? How often would you see two male bandmates dance with each other onstage like this in 2016, let alone in 1985? To me, The Smiths were legendary not only in their music, but through the way they combatted norms in terms of sexuality and gender.

batboy Morrissey and Marr challenged the stigma around sexuality and overt displays of femininity and that is what they're being praised for here. They're fucking gods. Comparing the mcr cunts to them is blasphemy. Kissing a dude on stage isnt challenging social normalities, it's just quite simply - kissing a dude on stage. I'll kiss everycunt when i'm drunk, doesn't make me a revolutionary. Just makes me someone who kisses everycunt when i'm drink.
