Johnny Marr is a brilliant guitarist, and you played those parts amazingly! But never forget the GENIUS bass playing of Andy Rourke that brought out those riffs.

Fantastic playing. What I loved about The Smiths is that they didn’t sound like anything else we were hearing at the time. Outside of a bit of rockabilly, it was hard to tell where Marr’s influences even came from.

They sounded like and were compared to the Byrds lots back then. No one since really "sounds like the smiths" is proof enough of greatness.

Marr's influences are wide and broad it's so difficult to narrow it down. I've seen him talk a bit about The Velvet Underground recently which makes perfect sense as those opening chords to There Is A Light are very similar to There She Goes Again. He also talked a lot about T.Rex specifically Metal Guru.

Johnny wasn’t just a once in a generation guitarist, but a genuine one of a kind. The first time I heard “well, I wonder,” it stopped me dead in my tracks. I was cleaning my first apartment and my roommate had just bought the tape. I was a punk kid so the Smiths weren’t my bag…but as soon as he played that song I sat down on the couch and just knew I was listening to greatness.

Morrissey’s lyrics and persona were understandably the focal point a lot, but Marr and especially the rhythm section deserve far more credit. Listened to any Morrissey records lately? Yeah, me either. Marr is his own genre.

Such a perfect combination of talented individuals. As for the voice and lyricism, no one could’ve done it better than Morrissey. The guitar compositions are legendary due to Marr’s unique combination of diverse influences. Rourke’s bass lines complement Marr’s lines so well and add the cherry on top while Joyce’s impeccable timing and well-timed fills bring it all together like a delicious vegan sandwich.
