Just because he doesn't like the Smiths anymore doesn't mean you can't prefer it. I think Vauxhall And I is his best record, and it is truly a great piece of work, but the other guys, especially Marr added so much that was never recovered when they broke up.

I met him very briefly at Manchester Airport while waiting for my mum and dad to fly back from Jersey. I thanked him for the music from the Smiths until now and he said ' no - thank you'. He thanked me. So humble and such a lovely man. He is true and honest ,straight in what he does, says, writes, thinks. I have great respect for him. I find myself also loving Johny Marr and I so wish they were friends and that they could sit down and be OK together. To have made the music of the Smiths there had to be a friendship there at one time. I think of some one I know not speaking to her sister for 30 years over some minor issue and then he sister died. Its final. Lets hope Mossa and Johny could sit down and think of the good times, remember the bad times, but come out the other side. Morrisey you are fab. Steven

I “met” him before a show at Maryweather Post Pavillion, in the early 90s. About a dozen of us were fortunate enough to find out what hotel the band was staying at, so we went and stood in the parking lot by the tour bus. When Morrissey and his band came out, we kept our distance and were respectful, not rushing hm or the band. We called out to them, saying hello and asked for autographs. They totally ignored us. It was as though we were invisible. We were all floored and totally disappointed. But it got worse. As soon as they were on the bus, they busted out laughing. He lost 12 fans that day. We were all just kids.

I never was interested in the Smiths, untill I heard "How soon is now". He's as pure & courageous as you can be in a world that only seeks to humiliate you, when you're most vulnerable as an artist. His sense of humour and wit was there already when he was just "a music journalist" I was fond of him as a writer. He has STYLE!

I compiled lyrics to a new Morrissey song using only direct quotes from this interview: YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW (accidentally by Morrissey) I am the forgiving kind. It's a great failing. I think about everything too much. I'm a sensitive little thing. There is no poetry in modern life. I feel pangs very easily. Nobody is that hungry that you need to take a life Of something that needs to live. You should know by now. In the dark you look like everybody else. I'm here with you and I feel quite safe. I've been through everything and it's quite pointless. It's not just a repertoire and I don't go through the motions. I can't stand it, I love that song. No yodeling. No alcohol. No gargling. No juggling. I just go on. You could almost say, if you dare, that I'm happy. You should know by now. In the dark you look like everybody else.

I've been living a busy life for decades, married to my job, no time for the pleasures of life. I finally decided to take the time to look into Morrissey and I am impressed with him. I was expecting a self-important, arrogant person, which I get so tired of. On the contrary, this man is human and so humble, just like my father. I love the way Morrissey has managed to stay around in music for as long as he has. That's cause what he has, no-one else does, and more and more people appreciate his unique legacy and great songs as time goes on.

I saw Morrisey first in the nose bleeds 2 years before the Smiths, saw him lots in UK during the Smiths and his solo career, lastly in 2008 in Vegas. Genius, showman, gentle soul a part of my life forever.

@@Indieguitarist2007 A punk rock band playing local pubs around the Newton Heath area to maybe 40/50 people. Morrisey was only with them for 4-6 months, crap music but I was young and it appealed to me at the time. There's a couple of videos appeared on KZbin which are worth a listen.

that comment is just Morrissey being Morrissey lol, the Smiths were very close as a band (Marr and Morrisey were literal best friends), there's just a lot of hurt/resentment from the breakup that he doesn't want to admit to.

When I first saw him on The Tube in early 80s with daffodils in his back pocket I really could not tolerate him at all. But as time wears on and we all get older, I have read his autobiography and have much more respect for him today, as a person.
