I don't know The Smiths, Morrissey, or Johnny Marr but after seeing how this song affects him, I think checking out their music is the least I can do. I'm also now extremely curious about the story behind this song, because it's clearly not just art. It's somebody's life.

Love him or hate him, Morrissey is unique. His gift is his ability in interject incredible emotional power into anything he sings. He is a one off that we will not see the likes of again.

yesterday. i was with my 4 years old brother in the room. i was reall depressed and hurting and surrounded with suicidal thoughts. i played this song so i can distract my brain and without realizing i started crying. he came to me and asked me if i was crying because im sad. and i said no, its just i have pain in my eyes and they hurt so bad. so without saying anything he kissed both of my eyes and asked me if i wanted him to tell my parents to take me to the hospital and i said no then he hugged me when morrissey was singing the line ‘havend had a dream in a long time’ thats when i realized that my only dream is to not feel hurt this much. i dont even want to feel happy. i just want to feel normal. i cried so bad while hugging him and even thought he didnt know what to do he kept checking my teary eyes and asking if they hurt me this bad. im playing this again while crying just remembering how good kid he is. i dont wanna hurt him, or hurt my mom, or any of my sisters. but i cant handle how hard this life anymore. i dont know why im writing this even though my english sucks but i hope. i really do hope one day i’ll come back to this video, read this and cry over how happy i am. i hope it’ll be better if i just wait and believed that it will. lord knows it’ll be the first time.

Hey man, I want to let you know that, that day will come. When I was in middle school to high school I felt the same way. every year I would be called in by the counselors out of fear that I would do something, and all I could do was lie, say that I was joking when I said I wanted to die because I wanted to hide it from my family and friends in fear that I would hurt them too. I remember at one point I felt like I was at the end of the road. I genuinely had no belief that I could get past that point. I was depressed for so long I thought that this was just life and there was no cure. But near the end of high school, I started seeing the school counselor, met new friends outside of school, focused on my art, and before I even realised it, I felt normal. Be sad when I'm sad and be happy when I'm happy, and not be in constant misery, and I actually reached this point in my life. Just two years ago if you asked me I would have never imagined things could be like this. so don't lose hope. Just hang on for a little longer, you'll emerge at the top of the mountain, stronger then ever.

perhaps the simplest, strongest song of ever, for me... it says so much, to my life, in so few words. It is, fundamentally, a prayer that an unexpressed, sed for a long time warmed dream would come true. But, as for the dream of everybody, its coming true needs of me, of Lord, and of you.
