The story was interesting until the timeline stuff. Also when ‘Damashi’ got introduced, it should’ve been the orb we’re familiar with that is controlled by Onaga. NRS said they wanted to start a fresh timeline yet here they are with MK11 Aftermath 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Baraka was by far the best chapter. He went from being a flunky begging for Shao Kahn's favour to being a man of the people. Helping his fellow tarkatan, allying the heroes despite the misunderstanding that let Shang Tsung slip away, fighting his way out of the flesh pits, sparing Reptile and sympathizing with his motivation to protect his family. Also his arcade ending has him become Mileena's supporter and advocate of the tarkatan. Giving her the courage to go public with her illness, and organizing the relief effort for the tarkatan. Baraka is now the protector of the downtrodden, helping the outworlders who cannot help themselves. One of the better ways in which Netherrealm changed a character.

Onaga needs to be the final boss in MK2, All the timelines need to be merged back into one with Titan Kung Lao, Kitana and Raiden replacing the Elder Gods or merge them with their new era counterparts, The villains need their own chapters along with the heroes because the fights are too one sided.

Multiple time line is actually the staple of many fictional universes these days. Let's say that they decided to kill kano in one game, how would they reintroduce him in future games? Face it, nobody stays dead in current fictional media. Multiple time-line gave them excuse to reintroduce long dead character without much repercussion. They can just say he came from another time line, like what they did with green arrow in Injustice....

The multiple timelines stuff *REALLY* should have been saved for like the third or fourth game in this timeline. The multiverse stuff is fine for stuff like Invasions mode, but having it take center stage at the tail end of the story completely derails the point of what was supposed to be a reboot, AKA, a fresh new entry and starting point for people who never got into the games before.

For real, he was the kharacter I was most hype for. He already acts like Noob Saibot, which defeats the point of Noob Saibot. What's worse is that most of the other ex-villains got better treatment. Mileena is still an impulsive hot head, but she gets to be the rightful empress of Outworld with a loving family. Havik is a villain but they gave him a sympathetic background that he didn't even need. Then there's Rain who feels remorse for what he did while Bi-Han is delusional and thinks he did nothing wrong.

The biggest pro for me was Liu Kang. He ABSOLUTELY CLEARS!!! Raiden as earth realm's guardian EFFORTLESSLY!!! I can't believe how much I enjoyed the role reversal between Liu and young Raiden. I loved it, he's an incredible guardian. Not gonna lie, if we never have Raiden as a guardian again I would be absolutely ok with that. Would love to see a Great Kung Lao guardian, or a Kitana guardian, Grandmaster Kuai Liang guardian etc, switch it up, that would be fun.

Biggest con for me will always be character chapters. You can never have 1 decent powerscaling and 2 a good tournament cause of this. Even in mk9 it didn't make any sense for people to fight back to back in a tournament. Just make a story and then think about the characters

You can if you do the effort. For example in mk11 scorpion knocked down Raiden, but you can see that Raiden wasn't truly defeated as he immediately rose from his feet and knocked scorpion out. The problem is that nrs consistently humiliates their villains. Just like at mk9 when noob saibot fights Kung Lao. We're supposed to be intimidated and curious about him but then they have him on the ground groaning and looking up at the light like a loser. Same thing in mk11 which just completely disrespected his character

In this game cause it's raidens chapter so he has to fight johhny kenshi and kung lao (johnny v raiden, kenshi v lao easy minitournament) then outworld fight after fight ( could've easily implemented all earthrealm warriors and maybe let reiko win from someone.) They did give a reason for this but lets be honest it's a lazy reason just to say its his arc. That's the thing street fighter 5 story did better. Every fight you was someone else.

The first thing you do in a reboot is explore and world-building and you want to add a major threat that none of our characters that we know about this 2nd reboot can go up against (apart from liu kang) which is bound to get some plot inconvenience and powerscaling issues? It’s still jumping the shark way too early to be bringing in timelines into it when this timeline has not even be properly explored. They should actually continue with following the plot of this new universe that liu created, not thinking about how to satisfy powerscalers’ fantasy so they can wank over who is the most op character in mk

From where I thought it was gonna go was that they use Titan Shang Tsung to kickstart all the future conflict in the realms, then when both him and his timeline are wiped away we are now just fully alone with Liu Kang’s new era and Onaga would be set up as the big bad around the corner. But no… we had to get this multiverse crap, which is just not how you should start a reboot right off the bat.

The likes of Shao, havik, and shinnok have been immensely depowered by Liu Kang, and the likes of mileena, reptile, and baraka are no longer evil.

Personally my biggest complaint is not the timelines or Shang Tsung hijacking the plot, because I didn’t mind those things too much, but my big complaint is that Shao was turned into a jobber which is why we now need. The Rise and Fall of General Shao Also Onaga is not entirely missing, in fact there are several hints to Onaga, one hint is Titan Onaga, another hint is Onaga in Reiko’s ending which is canon since the endings have been hinted at in intro dialogues. So yeah, he’s either going to be DLC or in the next game. Sure Havik was also hinted, but that doesn’t mean that Onaga can’t pull the rug out from under Havik.

The story is basically one big celebration of the 3D era with a ton of returning characters from that era, and elements from Deception’s story, the Deadly Alliance as the final boss and Armageddon nod at the end. Makes Onaga’s absence more apparent. And making him a mindless Dragon was a big letdown when he’s supposed to be one of the most intelligent villains.

The story was going good but then the twist happened with titan shang tsung and that's where everything fell apart at least in my opinion, mostly because well I was hoping really hoping for Onaga because all the foundation with onaga return was right there and the fact that NRS didn't pull the trigger just felt like a major waste of opportunity at least in my opinion but that's just me. With all that being said though I am glad there are people who loved this story and are super excited for Havok being the next big bad because that's great more power to them I won't stop them because at the end of the day we all have are own opinions. :)

I will say I enjoy MK1 Story a lot more than MK11 and Aftermath, it gave Chapters to Baraka, Reptile, Ashrah, Li Mei, Sindel, and Mileena to revolutionize the Fans in a Great Way, setting up the Rivalries of the Clan and Shao’s Army’s Dark Future, making Shang and Quan have their Sinister Charm voiced by New People that understand the Characters, Geras being Likable with Phil LaMarr voicing him this time, giving Raiden, Kung Lao, Johnny, and Kenshi New Spins to their Lore and succeeding, making MK9 Ermac Ending Canon, be faithful to the 3D Era, Cementing Liu Kang as a Great Protagonist and Protector redeeming his Character for Years of Deaths and Undead Reincarnations, and making this a Deadly Alliance Requel is a Brilliant Idea, I do have some negatives like we knew Onaga wasn’t coming as if that happened NRS would have revealed it already, I predicted that the Multiverse was happening but not this Soon, the 3rd half did felt Rushed, Tanya being Retconned did absolutely nothing to the Story, Nitara’s voice was Earbleeding, it needed more Playable Characters and less complicated Story, and the Final Chapter is so Bunkers and Bizarre that I’m Mixed on this Controversial Finale but I do like the Set Up of Havik as a Potential Expansion Story Move, all in all a Good 8 out of 10, not perfect but still a Good Fun Ride with Invasion being a Good New Change of Pace.

I was super hooked with everything about the new era but as soon as Titan Shang Tsung showed up I was like “oh nooo”. The Armageddon scenario at the end was cool but I wish they just focused on the new era. I think if all the other timeline people looked like their proper selfs it would’ve been better, like imagine if it was Tagawa back as titan shang and Richard epcar as raiden it would’ve been cooler and felt like a continuation to 11 but it fails at that cause none of them feel like their mk11 versions which that’s what they’re supposed to be. They should’ve just stuck to the new era stuff and keep building that up to be something meaningful

Story sounds good ar the beginning. They shouldve left all that timeline stuff alone. This was the perfect game to mainly focus on world building or the new era. What I don't get is how does liu kangs fight with shang tsung caused multiple timelines to create in which everyone became a titan. It was only between them and liu kang won so that should've been that

Onaga and Shujinko will probably be the main focus of Mk1's DLC. Reiko and Shao's endings hint to Onaga coming back and Kung Lao's humbling ending where Shujiniko became a threat and had to be mind wiped are building up to something that will definitely make Deception fans happy.

Great synopsis, Den. I honestly thought Onaga was gonna be the endgame after all this multiverse stuff is said and done. I was really hoping that any Aftermath type DLC would've included Onaga, but I think Netherealm is gonna milk the multiverse angle to death before he's brought back.

Also at the end of Armageddon (which should have been saved for a later game) We didn’t find out what happens to all the characters we spent so much time with other than Kang, cage, lau. Wha happened to Killeen’s and kitana? Sun zero scorpion and smoke? What happened to Shao and reiko? The list goes on

Every single Mortal Kombat character are titans in different timelines so all of them beat Kronika to gain control of the hourglass which retcons everything how higher beings aren't supposed to be effected by time merging.

I personally loved the chaos at the end and didn’t get confused at all. My only con was dropping the ball with Onaga. Only hope is that they expand with DLC and explore Onaga’s story. There’s still hope in my eyes that they can redeem it.

@@gothim9234 Well, we know Liu Kang, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kenshi and Johnny Cage are still alive at the end. We have to wait and learn the rest if there’s an expansion or just the next game. Not really confusing, but more of a cliffhanger. The number of Titans and Timelines are more than likely corresponding to one another, but I guess the number is the same as the amount of characters they decide to introduce.

Other than the final boss being a disappointment and the final few chapters near the end, it's way better than the last game in terms of story and voice acting. You're right, Mortal Kombat is king in story presentation than any other fighting games. I hope we get the Aftermath treatment when Titan Havik reveals himself to Liu Kang.

For what I've heard from ed boon he said they wanted to reference Onaga instead of putting him in the game which sucks to be honest probably a future DLC well help because in Reiko's and Shao's ending conforms that Onaga is still alive being chained up, and i know the story mode wasn't that good because of the boss reveal and timeline but there are some couple of good chapters in here and i like motral kombat's story i mean sure people shit on Mortal kombat's story mode. don't get salty with this one mk's story mode is better than any fighting game story mode and i agree with The Fighter's Den opinion sure some of the MK games weren't good but the fighting and voice acting "except for Megan fox" were all on point including lore

The game was a lot of fun, but I personally found the whole timeline stuff at the end to be just so tiresome. Yeah it was cool to see Armageddon again, sort of, but it just felt so messy. I personally would have liked the game centered around Kung Lao and new Raiden as the main characters, with important deuteragonists in Johnny, Kenshi, Reptile, Baraka, and Ashrah. I think this group was really interesting and melded well together, especially Johnny and Kenshi. Loved seeing their friendship build.

After the multiverse reveal i just couldn't take the story seriously any more! That final part of the game was a straight fan fiction. The time travel and the chapter system was what led to the downfall of mk story modes

Baraka finally got put over in MK 11 when he did the face turn helping out Kitana. MK1 just 100% completely push him even more over. so they have him over in the start of a new reboot, which is great. I just wish reptile got his just do before the new reboot because it feel like it wasn’t earned. He just feels like a new character. They just got pulled over. They should’ve gave him his just do in the last game also because where we left off an MKX she was a jober The reptile was great, but him beating Shao was insane. But I’ll comment on that. Will you do your power scaling video.

I can honestly see Havik being the catalyst for the downfall of Outworld. Mileena being overthrown for what he had Rain did to Seido while at the same time, not being able to stop the civil war started by Shao Khan. Hopefully we'd get the return of the old Outworld with a darker tone like in the early MK games, which has seriously been lacking in the current gen games starting with 9.
