So am I the only one who wonders why Raiden says 'he must win' because no one can stop Shao Kahn, yet Kitana kills him without much struggle. But then in MK9 Lui Kang is seen teasing her as she tries to kill him. Then we have Jade beating Kotal Kahn senseless, even though he was almost on the same power level as Shao Kahn. Now that I mention it, that may have been the worst scene in the game as it is supposedly the reason why he gets captured in the first place. And why didn't Shao Kahn just execute Jade there, shouldn't he know of her loyalty to Kotal? And since when did Jade care about morals? In MK9 she blindly followed Shao Kahn until Kitana was set to be executed, but all of a sudden she cares about innocence, totally forgetting her upbringing as an assassin. Does this mean Sindel is the strongest fighter? O.o I'm putting way too much time into this. 7/10 too much water

Cons you missed: -D'vorah killing Hanzo -Dark Raiden -Johnny Cage not showing up after his chapter and the final battle -Cetrion -Sektor and Cyrax. My rating is 8/10 that rebooting the timeline again in the end I didn't like. Also because characters came back to put others over or just there(Noob-Cyrax-Sektor)

That's my problem with MK story modes, i generally love them, but they take ZERO consideration into characters canon/lore strength, none. Whoever you're playing as at the moment is the most powerful character basically. That's why you have stupid stuff like Kotal getting washed by Jade, Noob losing to Jacqui, Sonya beating Jade AND Kitana (who just killed Shao Kahn 1 on 1...which i also disagree with) 2 on 1 in MK9,etc. Also since you literally NEVER play as the bad guys they will always just be jobbers, Noob being a perfect example, he is supposed to be one of the stronger characters lore wise but since you never play as him and always play as the good guys he's just there to job and make them look good. Say what you want about SF5's story mode but at least they didn't ignore characters' canon strength. You never saw any real questionable wins like R. Mika beating Bison or Urien. And when you did play as a character that shouldn't be able to beat the other one they pretty much let you know in the following cutscene like when you play as Ibuki against Balrog, after you "beat" him he just gets right up and acts like nothing happened and Ibuki is scared.

I agree as well, and its worse because in this game, it shows that they can make reasonable fights where weaker characters can take on stronger ones. The Jax/Jacqui vs Cetrion fight is a favorite because they give a valid reason why they can stand up to her, the Soul Crown, the thing Cetrion needs to rewrite the universe, they use its power to even the odds to fight Cetrion which is reasonable and even when you win, she isn't beaten into unconsciousness, just pushed back for a little before she opens up the Earth and threatens to kill Jacqui if she doesn't get the crown. She is held back, not defeated despite being the opponent in Jax's and Jacqui's chapter. They show they are capable of giving valid reasons for a win, and yet 99% of the time its just plot armor.

Kronika can rewind time at literally any moment, and Geras can freeze time at any moment but they don’t abuse these abilities to all hell. Couldn't she have simply rewinded the time of Shinnok's decapitation or frozen the time before Cassie beat Corrupted Shinnok, or before Raiden trapped Shinnok inside the amulet? One could argue she was aware of her being ridiculously OP compared to the good guys so she wanted to even the odds by refusing to bring back all the villains and bringing back the old versions of Raiden and Liu Kang (basically the two guys who thwarted her), and then she stepped into her own shit. Kronika’s plan should have been on the cons list. Her plan was stupid. Geras and Cetrion are throwaway characters with no development or weight in the story. No feats, I would rather those two characters be NPC’s and characters like Sindel, Nightwolf, Shang Tsung, etc be in the base roster. Geras especially so damn bland like a zombie ugh. Kronika herself was never foreshadowed literally came out of nowhere with no build up at all. If her entire plan was to basically get rid of Raiden who keeps messing up your vision of how time should go, why would you merge times lines and have the possibility of TWO Raidens to deal with? That didnt make sense to me, and based off the Raiden and Lui Kang chapter she has done this MULTIPLE TIMES HUNDREDS OF TIMES even. And speaking of Raiden, Dark Raiden was wasted. He disappeared as soon as the timelines merged, with no explanation. So it destroys the build up for him that was started at the end of MKX. Personally , Dark Raiden should have been a bigger focal point if not the main antagonist of the story and save Kronika and her plan for MK12. But if Kronika JUST HAD to be in Mk11, you can have both Dark Raiden and Kronika’s story running simultaneously, and make the possibility for the Good Raiden along side characters such as Lui Kang, Kung Lao, Fujin, and the rest of the good forces face Dark Raiden and lose which is believeable because Dark Raiden would use the full powers of Shinnok’s amulet. And when they lose Good Raiden merges with Lui Kang and passes the torch to him thus eliminating both Raidens and the Revenant Lui Kang as well. After all that THEN Fire God Lui Kang faces the other Revenants beat them, beat Cetrion, and then beat Kronika just as it happened in the game. I would be totally fine with something like this. Lose ends gets tied up, and characters get more fleshed out and have a bigger impact emotionally and psychologically on the story. That’s how I would fix it.

Pros: -Liu Kang finally got the recognition he deserved again and stopped being a revenant. -Raiden corrected his mistakes and had to stop consulting the Elder Gods. -Cassie didn't get her wins through pure plot armor this time (Corrupted Shinnok, anyone?). -Scorpion and Sub-Zero finally came through with a canonical Fire/Ice team up. -Kano finally got what he deserved. -Kitana finally got what she deserved. -Cetrion's "Holier Than Thou" ass got what she deserved. 🖕 My Gripes: -No explanation as to why tf Jade or Noob were just gone from MKX, only being mentioned in an MKX ending & 2-3 intros combined. Been missing for 25 years doing what exactly? -Next to no mentioning of where tf was Reptile, Smoke, Ermac, Rain, Tanya, Nightwolf, Stryker, Goro, Takeda, Kung Jin, Bo Rai Cho, and Kenshi were (fuck that Krpyt shit). Was revenant Sindel even there? -Kotal got only kidnapped because Jade beat his ass for being merciless towards innocent Tarkatans. She wasn't wrong, but that setup was goofy. -D'Vorah: *exists* (Great villain, honestly. But damn, do I hate that bitch.) -Noob Jobbot. I did not get my ass kicked in MK9 online by him regularly, only for him to suck this badly in the story. Not to mention all the MK Mythology feats he has from taking out gods. -Akuma wasn't added to the story to fulfill almost no purpose. 🤣 Neutral Thoughts: -Was really expecting Mileena clones based on her MKX ending, but I'm not disappointed. -Lastly, did ALL the timelines get retconned in the end? It's hard to even theorize how they'll continue from here.

I agree with Jade and Noob not being explained, ESPECIALLY with the heavy focus on Jade's MK9 ending and her cameo in Kitana's MK X ending, it was almost like she was going to be really key in the overall plot, but she took a secondary role in the Outworld crisis. The absent characters really needed an explanation, it feels silly without. Kung Jin could have met the young monks, for instance.

Because if you look at her concept wise not only is she an overpowered OC. she's the avatar for what's wrong with the newest games. Yeah I agree with how Noob was done,Noob Saibot is the original Sub Zero,he saved Earthrealm from Quan Chi and Shinnok he was one of the Lin Kuei's highest ranked warrior and probably the most deadly member of the clan. When they killed Hanzo Hasashi in story mode it should've been Noob who killed him,since Hanzo Hasazhi and Bi Han have more history with eachother.It could've led to an interesting moment where Hanzo tries reason with Noob and apologize for killing him,since both were manipulated by Quan Chi and it could lead to a climatic fight between Young Scorpion and Noob.

More cons, The worst villain in MK history Kronika and her terrible plan doesn't make ANY sense, Dark Raiden getting erased early after all the build up in X, DVORAH killing Hanzo instead of Noob Saibot, not enough past and future Johnny Cage scenes which imo were the best. Geras a guy who cannot die loses every match. EVERY DAMN Villain loses so there's no reason to take them seriously, characters who should've been in the story to help fullfill both sides and would make the story more tense are not in the story, the whole fusion between Liu Kang and Raiden just feels flat out silly, and the ending is just another way for writing NRS themselves out of a wall and rebooting the series AGAIN! 5/10

Johnny not being hurt by older johnny works (although older johnny should remember he got his ass kicked by himself when he was younger) but Young Kano was killed, the problem with that was that Older Kano should have just disappeared rather than showing his good eye gone, as he hadn't existed past the point of Sonya killing him or, because sonya killed young Kano, he shouldn't have even been in MKX, being as he died before the events of MKX. Also, wouldn't the older versions of themselves remember what the young versions are doing in realtime as memories? If scars carry over, shouldn't memories too? Time travel is a tricky subject, when its used to rectify bad writing and it only causes more problems like the ones I mentioned, its just lazy writing again.

Couple more Khans (I'm punny) -Dark Raiden is shafted immediately. Feels really weird to set it up in X, only to go literally nowhere in 11. He takes part in 1 mission, says an insensitive line, and is gone. Complete waste -Still no explanation for Jade and Noobs absences in X. At least Jade was heavily implied to have died (though how wasn't elaborated on as far as I know) -Time line clones feel addly specific. Like, Kitana, Cyrax, Sektor, Shang Tsung,, Ermac etc are nowhere to be seen. I practically get why that is but contextually it's a bit weird -Jade and Kotals romance. It'd be fine if it was established, but it wasn't. At all. They just are in love and have been for a while apparently. You'd think Kotal would mention or at least reflect upon it in X but nope -Sonya being daft about the mission briefing. She didn't even read the full thing and got mega bitchy about it. Feels like needless tension that didn't amount to anything in the story anyway. She just forgives Cassie later on and all is well. Kinda pointless -My god the Elder Gods suck ass in NRS stories. They do barely anything but, Raiden does nothing but kiss up to em. They help out once in 9, and are murdered off screen in 11. That is literally the extent of their involvement outside of establishing Mortal Kombat. Kinda lame for literal gods

If Kronika chose the moment in time where Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kitana were at the MK2 tournament, why was Johnny who was with them at the time sent to a different location? And where's Smoke? He was with them at the time. If Kronika is bringing back fighters for her army from the same time, why didn't she bring back Ermac, Reptile, Mileena, Kintaro, Motaro, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi? How does Kabal have his dash powers even tho it's explained in MK9 that's a byproduct of his being patched together with sorcery and technology? How did D'vorah get away from the special forces at the end of MKX? Why does the bug lady D'vorah kill the character named Scorpion with poison? Why is the Kollector even a character? His only contribution in the story was to explain that his race exists as slaves and he doesn't have any stake. If it's shown that someone taking damage as their past self is reflected and felt by the present day version, (Sonya and Kano fight) why can Johnny beat himself up without feeling a thing? Why are Sektor and Cyrax not in the game but are actually in the game but are not actually in the game? How does Jax have metal arms already even tho he got his arms ripped off about an hour earlier than when they got transported? Why can I go into a store today, buy the game at normal 60 dollar price and not be able to use Shao Kahn despite him being important to the story and a peice of in-game content? Frost is unlockable.... Shouldn't...... ALL CHARACTERS be unlockable by playing the video game if their data is in the game already? Why would I give more money than normal price now for characters to be released along the line when I can just wait a year and get all of it for $60?

In fact, he was the last Revenant (in the base story) to show up! - Kollector: Uhhh...he escaped his execution. That's the most I got out of him. - Skarlet: Pushed Kotal into the Koliseum basement...Tortured Jade...nah, I've got nothing. - Kitana (Revenant): Not much besides being co-leader of the Netherrealm forces. - Jade (Revenant): Tried to whack her past self. How did Liu Kang and Kitana not notice this? Ugh, Revenants never think straight. - Erron Black (past): Shot up past-Johnny's arm...I mean, that's more than anything Noob Saibot managed. - Sektor: Led an attack on the Special Forces base...and got used as a bomb for his trouble. - Kabal (Revenant): Led a battle against Special Forces in the Bone Temple. Yeah...killed at least one soldier. - D'Vorah: Not much, despite what fans say. She only killed modern-Scorpion, but that further motivated past-Scorpion to side with his modern self's allies. - Shao Kahn: Waited until Jade and Kotal had a dispute to pick them off - or...attempt to. Oooh, how bold of him. - Geras: Stole a bunch of Jinsei and later pulverized several soldiers. Still gets pinned by a forklift and liquefied by two grenades (even after he had a quick recovery from fighting Liu Kang/Kung Lao earlier). - Frost: It's impressive that she could power all of the Cyber Lin Kuei...but she still made the ballsy move of challenging Raiden herself just to get his attention for once. And that got the Cyber Lin Kuei shut down. - Liu Kang (Revenant): Crushed Sonya and several soldiers, commanded the Netherrealm forces, and managed to steal his past self's soul. This unfortunately failed to stop Raiden, and even resulted in Fire God Liu Kang. - Kano (both): Rebuilt the Cyber Lin Kuei and kidnapped past-Sonya and Johnny. Well, it's dumb that they let the two live long enough to escape, but they still replenished a bulk of Kronika's defense (though Frost eventually wasted all of that). - Cetrion: Probably the most competent of them all. When she's not holding back out of attempted mercy, she's too dangerous for anyone else to cross. She practically forced Jax's hand(s) in handing over Kronika's crown. - Kronika: The most dangerous. Always observing world events, gaining more power-ups (Jinsei, the Crown, and then Cetrion's soul)...She even uses the Hourglass to reverse time and isolate Fire God Liu Kang, and then finally sends everything back to the beginning of time. Her failures are likely due to her earlier arrogance, not considering her foes to do anything that would catch her off-guard. I didn't count Baraka, past-Scorpion, or modern-Jax because they all had face-turns. Still, the point stands that the Kanos had more of an impact on this story than _Shao Kahn._ And past-Erron Black had more impact that _NOOB SAIBOT._ Sure, he only incapacitated Johnny, but it's still more than what Bi-Han accomplished!

The story feels like wasted potential, they could have brought back so many old characters but other roster is kind of small and lots of the things that happened were complete bullshit, like how little shao khan was involved and died to katana. Another thing is the fact that dvorah kills another popular character and gets away with it. They treat almost almost every character like a piece of filler. But the worst part was the ending, Liu Kang becomes the guardian god or earth and raiden becomes mortal and then it just ends. It doesn’t show what happens after kronika was beaten, what happens to everyone after the time reverse, nothing it just ends. As for the pros I agree with basically all of yours

Shao Kahn was definately true, Kitana killing him was great but the fact that it was just easy made Shao Kahn feel waaaay less strong. Instead of introducing some of these new (and honestly ridiculous) characters, why not try and breathe new life into some of the older ones, even though they didn’t take off in their day? What happened to Reiko? Jarek? Even Tanya? They weren’t the most exciting in MK4, but they should be revamped at some point and thrown into the story. Characters like Kollector and D’Vorah are stretching it a bit with their crazy appearances. MK characters were never that odd-looking.

Probably my biggest complaints with the story was both Shao Kahn and Dark Raiden. While Shao Kahn did get redeemed in Aftermath, Dark Raiden was basically erased and never seen again. 4 years of hype and he contributes nothing to the story.

Personally I give this story 3/10. It had way too many flaws and inconsistencies for me to take it seriously and Kronika is a terrible villain in the story mode and fighting her in-game sucks as well. Fire God Liu Kang was awesome to see though.

Definitely agree, a lot of bad books, but there’s still some good one. Deleting dark Raiden so early sucked. Deleting the timeline was lame. Kronkia is another annoying “balance” villain which I am sick of. Liu Kang being the top dog again is great, thank you for putting aside your bias Ed Boom. But my biggest problem with the story is that the arcade endings for mkx set up a cool story with the return of the actual tournament but with earthrealm being the invaders. I feel like by concept alone that would’ve been more interesting. Seeing how the esrthrealmers choice sides, if Kung Lao being saved by his cousin, Taven possibly making a come back. I wish they waited for 12 before bringing back time travel.
