There's actually 2 that surprisingly barely anyone even seemed to notice is... 1) When Sindel and Shao Kahn beat up Sonya in the Aftermath story mode, Shao Kahn mentions how Sonya would look good in his arena, which is a reference to her in MK2 2) Also a small mistake that Netherrealm did in the base story mode is that during the battle on Kharon's ship, they used the wrong Scorpion model when he was in the background fighting the Cyber Lin Kuei.

With the frost thing. I also think it's a reference to flags of countries. When something is wrong the people will turn the flag upside down as a warning that something bad is happening. So I feel like it's a "she was Lin but now she's a troubled past student. But I could be wrong, it's just a fun little theory

you missed one. the scene in aftermath where shang tsung is taking reverent nightwolf's soul you can hear a sample of mk2 demo theme. also you can hear his mk9 gibberish when he tossed the flaming skull at the tarkatan in the chapter with sheeva. and yes robocop's skin is a what-if feature. spawn has an mk inspired costume so is joker and terminator. it's kinda like how dc comics made their team designed the mk characters in their artstyle.

I’m a fan of the MK series but I don’t know as much as you. I do know that in the MK X comics Scorpion is supposed to have killed Hsu Hao. But in MK11 Erron Black throws Hsu Hao’s head out of a bag. I’ve heard the whole “different timelines” answer but could their be a canonical answer or is it just a reference with no ties to the canon?

it seems revenent's are a split of one's soul. for example liu's revenent is a lot similar to shang tsung using negative energy (hence his dualist variation in mkx to fit with his what if resurrected version) smoke's revenent is anenra. which is the demonic spirit that gave him his power, sindel's revenent is an opposite of her former self if you ignore the retcons. Jax revenent wanted to kill johnny cage as he disliked him before becoming his friend in mk9. Kitana wearing her skull on her face as a mask when she's fighting which references her influences of shao khan before knowing the truth. and since scorpion is retcon as a revenent then it makes sense why he's unreasonable and is bent on vengeance unlike his human form. simply said. nightwolf's revenent is the dark spirit that always follows him to corrupt him and stray him from the mother spirit. the being was seen in mk9's challenge tower and said spirit existed in mkd when he used his ancestors sins to defeat onaga. it make sense why he'd be that connected to his revenent

Only the Wasteland is historically "purple". Kombat Tomb is orange. Kahn's Arena is a grey-ish pale purple with orange clouds. Tower has a grey-ish blue sky with regular clouds. Pit 2 is dark blue. Every Outworld arena that came after that had a non-purple sky except for the remake of the wasteland in Armageddon and MK9. The Tower and Pit remakes in MK9 have a slight purple tint but nothing else. I'm more of the idea that the wastelands are purple as they represent what's left Edenia after the merge. It's the former's realm magic and energy giving that particular area a tint of purple.

I disagree that the dragon sword is an unusual choice for Liu Kang as a weapon. Especially now knowing that nunchucks are not a real, or viable, weapon. The more absurd thing, even though it’s my favorite part of it, is the curved nature of the blade. However, I would love for that sword to have been given back to him. I’m glad that there is a fun compromise, though.

I knew about all of this being an mk fanatic hence the name lol except for the sword being able to be used, I always used it as a leap interaction but never knew til now that you could grab the sword that's cool. The shao Khan flag being a swastika is a bit of a stretch though I'd you ask me. There's a lot of flag icons in mk that look like or could potentially be inspired by real life symbols but I see more differences than similarities personally. I totally agree however on oldschool outworld being dark and purple is cooler than current which looks more ancient Egypt or something.

Just to let everyone know, an upside down cross isn't "Satanic". Not at all, actually. It's the cross of St. Peter because he was crucified upside down because he "felt unworthy" to be crucified like Jesus was. Hold on because I'm not done. The upside down pentagram isn't inherently Satanic either. It doesn't really mean anything different than a regular one. It's mainly used to symbolize the elements. The media has you all fooled. The symbol most commonly associated with evil would be the alchemical symbol for sulfur, or "Leviathan's Cross". It's a double dagger symbol with an infinity loop beneath it.

"Shao Kahn is a bad person" It's true He got a king's wife to murder him, stole said wife, kept the daughter to appease the mother, abused the daughter, blamed Kotal Kahn for the 'suicide', merged 2-3 realms into outworld, and pissed of the elder gods so much they had to kill him And even with all of that he's still a more likeable character than all of the new gen characters
