@@DKSmusic86 It wasn't the first tournament not even close. It was 50 years after he dethroned Shang Tsung who had won 9 times in a row before that. Kung Lao spared Shangs life when he won, and that came back to be his downfall. Now Shang Tsung doesn't exist anymore, period, so that entire situation will happen much differently.

The perfect way to wrap up this trilogy and start the next series of games fresh. Rewrite Mortal Kombat to start with the very first guy ever to win for Earth, trained by Liu Kang, up against probably a brand new villain since Liu would probably write Shang out of history this time. We're going into totally unknown territory again, but with just enough familiarity to keep it interesting. And we've never known anything about Great Kung Lao's life.

Netherrealm Studios are working on a non-fighting game. It is expected to be an open world game. My guess is that Liu Kang ending is cannon and they are going to work on a Shaolin Monks kind of game. Game might feature a Liu Kang and Kung Lao team up. Also, the end of this DLC reminded me of Armageddon. Instead, it was Liu Kang and Shang Tsung that had the final fight. In Armageddon, it was Shao Kahn and Raiden.

That Kung Lao at the end was the Kung Lao we know's ancestor who died at Goro's hands 500 years ago.

That was the Great Kung Lao. The First Earthrealm champion who defeated Shang Tsung to save Earthrealm 500 years prior to the Mk1 tournament. Later on, The Great Kung Lao lost to Goro and was killed. Shang Tsung took his soul. Some are saying this is a tease for Shaolin Monks 2 video game. Open world RPG set before the Mk1 tournament.

Well, no redemption for Sindel. I thought in the beginning that the writers were retconning their retcon, but nope. I guess we just have to accept that this is her character now. I imagine this has upset quite a few fans of the way she was written before. Overall, I prefer this story to the one in the main game. It has some nice twists and turns and a fun villain in Shang Tsung. And I love the fact that you get to choose who comes out on top in the end.

Well the “new era” is basically starting before the first Mortal Kombat. Cassie is obviously not born yet. Looks like they are really wanting to reboot starting from before MK1. MK12 is the new “MK1”
