I agree with Matty, I think it's a pretty happy ending. Most likely, Jade and Liu Kang are still around in Kitana's new timeline, and considering she also restored Edenia to how it was before Shao Khan conquered the realm, she likely found a way to redeem Sindel into the caring ruler that she was in MK: Deception - sort of like what Sub-Zero did in his ending to prevent his brother from ever becoming Noob Saibot.

The mace with a chain is specifically called a flail, and if I'm not mistaken, it wasn't a very effective weapon. About the ending, I think the best way to describe it is bittersweet.

Personally, I think it's a happy ending. It shows that she has come to terms with who she truly is and even though she isn't the most knowledgeable Edenian, she takes the history of Edenia and turns Outworld into a better place.

Skarlet is an outworlder but both Kitana and Jade are edenian, or at least they were born there. Kitana doesn't know of Edenian's culture however, being as she was taken from there at a young age. Jade would probably feel the same way.
