A few things to note about this comic: - The text boxes at the beginning indicates the old idea that Edenia and Outworld were the same place, with Edenia becoming Outworld after Shao Kahn took over. They flip-flopped over this in some of the early games, it wasn't until Deadly Alliance that they firmly established they were always two separate realms. - Goro's remark about "Many Years", alongside some other details, suggest noticeable time passed between MK2 and 3, and/or between MK3 and 4. (Certain details in MK3's story leads me to believe time did pass between that and 2, unlike the reboot which suggests it happened pretty much right after) - That flashback is the only time we've ever seen Bi-Han and Kuai Liang interact when they were both human. - The mention of Liu Kang's grandfather is likely a reference to the movie, where said character appeared. Probably another instance of them intergrating something from the movie into the game canon. After this comic, the grandfather is never referenced in the canon again. - Sonya is wearing green, unlike the game where she wears red. The most important detail. - Jax states that the dimensional fluxes are occuring over Southwestern China. This really doesn't match up with previous comics, like the MK1, which establish the Shaolin Temple in Henan like in real life. - Also, the comic kinda ignores the fact from the game that Jarek is supposed to team up with Sonya and Jax to stop Shinnok. - I don't mind the Johnny Cage discrepancy, because his story in MK4 was kinda lame and raised too many questions. (If Raiden can just casually raise people from the dead, why doesn't he ever do it again?) - While Liu Kang's concern over Kitana is referenced, it also omits a detail from his bio. Kang sets out on his own to Edenia to try to rescue Kitana by himself. Unsuccessful, Kang returns to Earth and mounts an effort to gather Earth's warriors to then try and save Kitana, help Raiden and the Elder Gods, and defeat Shinnok. Overall, an interesting comic and I like seeing you spread more information about it., the idea you proposed about maybe Sub-Zero being the hero was interesting. I certainly want to see you cover the MK1 and MK2 comic. I'd also love to see someone ask John Tobias why there wasn't an MK3 prequel comic, I've always wondered that.

It was MKX technically but it was a let down. Shinnok as you can see reigned terror in this original version. He takes a serious back step in the new one and appears only in last 25 mins where he is defeated so easily by one of the Kombat kids. Another thing was the protagonists were not interesting in the new one as well. This version was done miles better. I guess it is true that Tobias really made that difference.

The MK comics are fun, love the MK 1, MK 2 and MK4, Deception and MK X comics are all canon to the games which is awesome. MK 4, Deception comics are especially very, very rare and will cost you serious money on ebay. I've seen the MK 4 comic sell for as much as 700 bucks in mint condition sealed. There actually is one thing in the MK 4 comic that the games never covered is how Shinnok took over the Netherrealm, which was with the help of Quan-Chi and took centuries for Shinnok to regain his strength and together Shinnok was able to take over the Netherrealm from Lucifer who he kills at some point. The games never mentioned this, just that Shinnok was "the Lord of the Netherrealm" but not actually how unless you read the MK 4 comic. The Cage thing is a little different but I can forgive it, either way in the older timeline Cage died and came back albeit differently in the books than the games. But I can forgive that since the overall plot is the same.

Netherrealm should commit more resources into producing comics instead of story mode campaigns. It cheaper and higher quality storytelling for the story they want to tell. Barely anyone 100%'s the story mode anyway, we just watch it like a movie on KZbin. The comic book format is a better medium for gory stories with ensemble casts once or twice a month.

Such wasted potential with MK4: 1) This was the perfect platform for Sub Zero, as you said, to be the main protagonist. 2) Reptile has never been intimidating as he was in MK4. Yet he is treated as a jobber. 3) Perfect game for Noob Saibot to shine as well. Made him into a hidden character with borrowed moves... 4) Kai, Fujin, Reiko and Tanya all awesome new characters. Yet none made an impact on the story (except Fujin now with Mk Aftermath) 5) Shinnok was to be the ultimate evil entity. Yet he was a joke final boss.
