This one almost got me in trouble! I watched this at night and I laughed so loud, I could hear my neighbor get up from bed and get to the window... I had to watch the rest of it with a pillow over my mouth!! Favorite parts were the "Tight" tag line... "Oh, getting it out later when you're gone is tight!" and "He gets a cool little outfit made entirely of plot armor!" Very funny! But all the humor aside, it seemed that my expectations were built on that intro... and George Ryan called it... they stopped trying after they captured everyone's attention. We'll see what happens in the next 4 movies... Thanks for this video! I can't wait to see what is next from you!

So, having committed to introducing this original character (Cole Young), who is a descendent of Hanzo Hasashi, they had the following options: OPTION #1: Continue to work towards having Cole become Scorpion. This would probably work best as some sort of merger / possession, similar to proven, successful concepts, such as Firestorm (DC Comics) or Talion / the Wraith (Shadow of Morder videogame). This would allow the MK novice (Cole) and the long-dead warrior (Hanzo) to possibly have a conflict / resolution story, give the audience a surrogate to learn about the Mk world, establish that neither could defeat Sub-Zero alone but rather needed one-another, and even solve small issues (such as how the Japanese-speaking Hanzo can say "GET OVER HERE!!!") OPTION #2: Have Cole become Plot-Armor Man - a fighter with absolutely no basis in the MK games - and have Scorpion relegated to little more than a fight-scene-only stand-in. I'm going to go out on a limb, but IMO the film makers absolutely the correct choice! As Ryan has said about Game of Thrones Season 8, "Subverting expectations is tight!"

I would have loved to see option #1. It would have really brought the Hanzo/Bi-Han rivalry full circle. Even though we still get the big fight between them in the end, it was missing something to keep me invested in why these 2 characters hate each other. I know about the mythology from the game and I think it could have still be put to great use here in live-action. A truly missed opportunity in my opinion. I get over it by watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. At least that animated film explains why he calls himself Scorpion, LOL!!!

Literal plot armor... yeah they went there. Oh Producer Guy.."getting it out later when you're gone" was far worse. They basically intend to make a series of video game movies exactly like a video game...you win some, lose some, and it's always resets. Until the final big battle that will have lasting meaning? At least for a while, then reboot and start again. I'm so far behind in viewing my regular channels, I didn't even know about the one with your brother. Still busy though.

Yeah, the movie wasn’t the best but it was still “successful” in the box office. To be honest, I almost fell asleep with the dialogue and my eyes immediately opened when there was action going on. I hope the sequel does it better and that Cole has more personality and purpose instead of being just there. Also, Cole’s name should have been “Kole”. I haven’t seen any characters that have “c” in there names aside from Johnny’s surname since it’s an exception (because it would have been “Kage” which is the Japanese word for “shadow”).

Pitch Meeting, as always, was hilarious and on point. The movie, however, was VERY disappointing, especially after the opening scene that, to be honest, was the ONLY reason I was looking forward to and hopeful of this version. Alas, that was not to be. As Ryan says, started off spectacularly, and just went downhill from there.

The filmmakers were afraid to take risk. They crammed the plot to have as many fights as possible and hardly any fight has any actual meaning behind it. They were afraid of doing something less typical than your average dumb fighting game movie. I think that a lot o viewers might appreciate a more ambitious approach. For instance if they made purely Scorpion & Sub Zero movie origin story and focus actually on a story not on making an excuse for punching and kicking.

MK was garbage. It was a more competent MK annihilation without the benefit of a first movie for us to know/care about the versions of Liu Kang, Sonya(even with another actress), Kitana, or Raiden(same as Sonya). The script was literally introduce famous MK character, have them give quick wiki explanation of who they are, cut to Shang Tsung in outworld talk to a famous MK villain, have previously introduced hero fight villain who just shows up were previous hero is, FIGHT, FATALITY, repeat. There is nothing that says we can't have a MK movie with both cool fight scenes AND good story/character development/pacing. "OMG bro. People just want to see these characters kill each other. Who cares about story!" fanboy chant is why we keep getting shit video game movies. This movie felt like a higher budget KZbin project. I hope the sequel is better.
