MORTARION & JAGHATAI KHAN - Warhammer 40k Voice Over (Excerpt from SCARS)

Sorry, it's slightly late this week. Grab a coffee, take a break for 9 minutes, and have a listen to my next voice over from the Warhammer 40k Horus Heresy books, featuring Mortarion and Jaghatai Khan.
This excerpt is from Scars by Chris Wraight.
Mortarion and Jaghatai face off in the ruins of Prospero, where the death lord tries to convince the war hawk to join Horus' rebellion against the Emperor of Mankind. The Death Guard have already begun their unstoppable path to corruption, and half of the White Scars legion are in the midst of an internal rebellion.

The smelliest, most unlikeable primarch does a pretty poor job at trying to convince the absolute gigachad, Jaghatai, to join the traitors' cause. The Khan is such a badass. Stick around until the end... I love the last line. I was questioning myself a bit before posting this one, but I think I'm happy with it now. I hope you enjoy it. Please give the video a like if you do! 👍 I'll be taking a bit of extra time between this video and the next one to improve on a number of elements that that will mean the next videos will be of higher quality in general. You all deserve more than the same formula every time. It feels like time for a bit of a refresh. Next up will be either The Lion and Guilliman, or Vulkan and Corax (I found a bit in Vulkan Lives).

The Khan is the only primarch that is legitimately /cool/. No self doubt, no rash decisions, no personality flaws. Just a straight up warrior. I hope they do bring him back next.

@@TalesOfTerraVA He had quite a bit of self-doubt and numerous personality flaws, most of which stemmed from feeling like an outsider amongst his brothers and the Imperium. Like Perturabo but to a far, far lesser extent, the Khan isolated himself from everyone else because he believed that they both looked down on him and didn't understand him.

Tell me,what is the lesser evil,to control,to restrain your power, using it aganst the monsters you hate so much, or Letting it consume your dogma? I see it in your eyes. The yakshas of decay hunger for your soul and I already see youve been touched before." "You,do not understand jaghatai-" "Then what mortarion!? What do i need to understand?" Jaghatai answered. The khan controlled his rage. "It is still not too late brother. You do not have to return to father,but would you really forsake humanity for the yaksha?" Mortarion gripped silence stronger. And stronger. Then finally let out a sigh. "Fine. Ill humor you jaghatai. What do you suppose i do then?" "Betray horus. Take neither side. Fortify barbarus. And ensure your apothecarys and whatever psykers you still have can ensure no corruption further seeps. I could send a detatchment if need be." Mortarion thought...then nodded weary. "Send a group of your best 7. Psykers especially. If what you say is true,and i dont believe you mind. Then for once i might take your advice." "Good. Im going to terra. Make the right choice brother. Before your soul is forfeit."

The khagan arrived upon terra. The brothers eyed him weary. But sanguinus nodded. "I take it your journey must have been arduous?" "Not as much as you,brothers. How long till horus arrives?" Dorn shook his head. "Not long. Weve barely been able to muster our defenses. Any good news perhaps?" "A little. But also bad news. Prospero is gone,in thanks to russ." The primarchs went silent upon that revelation. Sanguinus grit his teeth. "I should have gone with him. One of us should. But that does not matter. What have you learned on prospero?" "I had spoken to a shard of magnus. Whatever majority that is left now sides with horus in retribution while others lay elsewhere. Another thing. The death guard will not be joining the traitors." Dorns eyes went wide as he heard. "By the...how is this possible??!" "It seems mortarion,as well as lorgar and horus have been played for fools. The yaksha now move and they have claimed several of us. Lorgar and horus were 1st,then fulgrim,then more. I had managed to send a few men to watch mortarion in order to prevent more corruption from finding him." "Jagahatai speaks the truth dorn. I see it as well. His foolishness aside,i am glad at least one of our wayward brothers finaly saw the light,even if we still have much more legions to go through." "Agreed. You have our swords brothers loathe as i am to say. But we will stand. And we will die if needed." Dorn nodded weary. "Then it is good we have more allys aganst horus. We will need to plan and fast. Even with the death guard out of the way,it will be a miracle if terra survives at all." To be continued .

Mortarion landed upon the area. Dorn and the others were there. "...dorn." Mortarion said in a surprising awkwardness. "Mortarion." Dorn said bitterly,but sanguinus looked at him briefly. Dorn sighed. The angel eyed mortarion. "You risk much by coming here given what you did at isstvann. You could have easly left all together." "I could. But i refuse to be bitter any longer. Is nathaniel here?" "As is loken and some lucky survivors,yes. You intend to fight beside us instead now?" Mortarion nodded. "I was lucky enough to even survive making this journey. Typhon betrayed me to one of the abombinations who hold a claim on horus. I had no choice but to try and escape. My legion is either dead or in its thrall." Sanguinus nodded. "So garro is the last of your legion then bar yourself." Mortarion nodded. "We also have another matter to see to if we have time in the siege." "Oh? Is betrayal for the 2nd time not enough? What is your game." Dorn spat hatefully. "Dorn! Enough." The angels voice roared with startiling fury. And dorn heeded. "...apologies. You were saying?" "We need to find magnus." Dorn looked confused. "What does he have to do with this?" "Believe it or not brother i have a plan to turn this siege around,and allow the emporor to join us in battle. But we need magnus." Sanguinus saw a vision. It was indeed magnus,preparing to sneak in. "He will attempt to sneak inside the palace. What is your plan mortarion?" "I will require at least 5 of your libarius and malcador. If we focused our power,it will give magnus enough strength to allow him to take the emporors place,then he can join us. It is temporary,but it will work." Dorn was shocked. "If father was able to join us we would have a massive advantage. But how do you know magnus will collaborate? From my understanding,russ effectively ensured magnus will never give up his sons no matter what the emporor says." "Which is why the focusing of the psychic energy is 2 fold. To allow him to take the emporors burden,and to allow him to think rationaly. I know not of what jaghatai spoke to with him,but when i arrived i felt the scream of magnus even though he was not present." Sanguinus nodded. "I can spare a few of my libarians to aid you. Garro and loken are busy. Are you certain this will work mortarion?" Mortarion shook his head. "Sanguinus i have always hated the emporor. To this day,i doubt that hatred will ever subside. I have seen the true face of evil and though i will pay the price of my betrayal in time,i would rather die a good man then live a monster. And if i can atone for even a fraction of the suffering i put my sons through,then i would live the rest of my days in chains with the knowledge i tried. when this darkness comes after,the only thing we can do now is rebuild." Sanguinus was silent for a moment then smiled. "Well said mortarion. You have my trust at least." Mortarion nodded. "That is enough." Jaghatai at last spoke. "What do you plan to do once your done with magnus?" "Im going to finish what i started when typhon betrayed me. And even if i die,i will free my sons from that abomination that has them." "if we plan to infiltrate the vengeful spirit,then we should bring a strike team more fresh. Sanguinus,what do you see?" "...death by horus. Death for the emporor." Jaghatai nodded. "Then lets move more careful. Father why dont i join you with dorn, sanguinus and everyone else can focus on the defense." The emporor nodded weary. "Your council looks sound jaghatai. We need to move." The group teleported. And jaghatai arrived upon the vengeful spirit. Alone. "Tch. Of course. Yaksha trickery." After cutting down legionares, jaghatai touched the ground. Feeling the air. Running with haste to find the emporor. To be continued...
