Kinda heart broken HBS doesn't own Shadowrun and Battletech anymore. However, if Lamplighter is as bad commercially as they say, then I guess that's one of things they can do to help Paradox recuperate lost revenue and cover production costs. Really really bummed that it's getting more unlikely we'll ever get more Shadowrun. But, at the same time BG3 also did really raise the bar higher for me. I think a studio as small as HBS (especially considering their significant layoffs because of Paradox) will really have a long way to go to get close to that bar. I wish HBS the best. I wish we can get more Shadowrun games. I wish Lamplighters was good.

@@brianlevor6295 It's not a question of engine - at all. You can't compare a studio like HBS with Larian who had an AAA-sized staff for BG3 and that many years of development. You could do the same game in most engines (especially since BG3 is pretty bad when it comes to performance optimization which means the engine is either not created to make full use of the hardware or the content was not optimized). To be honest I would prefer HBS to do Shadowrun in their own style which suited Shadowrun pretty well. Not every game needs to be as ambitious as BG3 to be a great experience. While I liked BG3 and had a lot of fun with it, personally, except for choice and consequences I didn't see anything that really deserved being mentioned in that game as standing out. Voice acting was superb and graphics were good as well, but not going beyond what one would expect with that budget. Everything else was for me rather average.

Great video, as always! The only game from this list I actually wanted to play is Lamplighters League, because I'm a fan of Shadowrun Trilogy. But when i saw the art style (which I don't like), I decided to wait. It's a shame the game turned out this way, but even worse is Harebrained Schemes being gutted. I mean, what were Paradox thinking? That this game will outsell BG3? It's scary to think how Paradox will react to probably not stellar release of VtMB 2, in addition to all other cursed things which already happened to that game. As for the games I really wait in 2024, the list is probably: Commandos: Origins - I don't think they will capture the magic of classic games, and Calypso is probably the worst European publisher. But still, the games in this genre are rare (especially now, with Mimimi closing), so I hope we'll get something decent. Classified: France '44 - I am a fan of turn-based combat and WW2. Enough said. Sovereign Syndicate - just an unusual setting for an RPG. And in general looks interesting. Tempest Rising - looks like a hefty dose of that old C&C goodness. Espiocracy - a sort of Cold War grand strategy focused on espionage. I'm a fan of the setting, so easy pick for me. There are actually a lot more games in my wishlist, but most of them have SOON as release date, and in our time you never know if the game will see a release or not. These 5 at least have a decent chance of actually releasing.

Same here, the writing isn't any worse than 80% of other games out there. Also, I happened to play it after another promising game that I was disappointed in - exactly because of the writing, story and characters - Fire Emblem:Engage. Now that is how horrendous writing looks like. I actually enjoyed Forspoken quite a bit, but Morty's criticism is valid - the world is empty, story is dumped on you right in the end, and most gameplay consists of busywork, like visiting yet another marker on the map. Still, didn't deserve the hate.

Jedi Survivor was not bad on console on launch. I had no crashes, no major bugs, and it ran well on graphics mode. Performance mode was okay, but had some screen tear that I couldn't deal with.

I think the problems for HBS is once they were bought by Paradox (I assume a good deal for them at the time) they would never get access for the FASA IP they knew so well and were known for (also the development model for them changed so much for them). While Microsoft would be happy for a indy studio to breath life back into older IP they would not be happy letting a Paradox owned studio. Feel sorry for the rank and file at HBS who got sacked and wonder if this was fall out from the VTM:BL2 debacle?

Weird…I never had any issues with Jedi Survivor. Played on a pretty beefy PC. I realize this is a sample size of 1.

Everytime we watch a Mortisimal video he drops hints at his lore. During the Forspoken review he said he also dealt with being homeless like it was nothing! Who is this legendary man?

Next year only has two releases I pre-ordered on GameStop: Granblue Fantasy Relink and FFVII Rebirth. For the rest of the year looking forward to the Dawn Expansion of Tales of Arise and Super Mario RPG.

Completely agree about lamplighters league. I bought it just because of the developer and nine crashes in about ten hours. Got to one of the big heist missions and frame rate dropped to single digits and audio track distorted then a mid-mission crash. Reloaded to the level not loading in so it’s just a black screen, reloaded again to another crash. Literally unplayable.

For next year I'm really looking forward to the new Prince of Persia game and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth in January, Banishers and Homeworld 3 for February (hopefully), and beyond that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, Mewgenics, The Plucky Squire, and Pacific Drive.

Maybe now that Lamplighter's League is over, there's a chance there will be a new Shadowrun. I really want a new one.

Lamplighters is a total heartbreak. Because of that BOTH Battletech(a phenomenal IP, but I would prefer Real Time here, something like Armored Core) and Shadowrun(handled properly, see Dragonfall, it is also a work of art) video games are in jeopardy. While I don't care about Lamplighters at all, this is simply too much. I would probably put Diablo 4 here as well. For a fan of various aRPGs(be it Diablo-likes or Souls-likes), for me to simply /whatevs a game from the genre tells more than I could put into words. Still, D4 hasn't jeopardized anything. Unlike Lamplighters.

I just came here to say I LOVED Forspoken and I have to continue to get this opinion out on the internet because I dont want these types of games to die! Bring back INFAMOUS, PROTOTYPE, and other third person power trip games!

Jedi Survivor actually runs really well on PS5 (and also Series X i've heard) since a patch that came out around June or July of this year. So i would recommend it for the console gamers or those like myself who have a PC that is getting on a bit. And a current gen console.

I love RPG's, TRPG's, and RTS. I Do play other stuff sometimes of course, I really loved Borderlands 2 for example (Hated BL3 though) but RPG/RTS are really my thing. Now, for me the one I am looking forward to is Homeworld 3. Homeworld is THE BEST RTS EVER MADE AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE. I have no idea if this will live up to the Original 3 (yes 3, Homeworld Cataclysm was AWESOME, if you haven't played it and you can manage to get it running it is every bit as good as Homeworld 1 and 2) but I am definitely hoping it will.

It hurts to think about so many of their staff being laid off, but I think Harebrained will land on their feet. Most of the studio's track record is in crowd funded titles at this point (I've backed every single game they've done crowd funding for). If they return to crowd funding then i know they're a safe bet.

Totally agree on Jedi Survivor. The game itself is fantastic, but runs awful. I think the console versions are finally quite a bit better but PC is still bad. I have a beefy PC with a Ryzen 7800x3D, an RTX 4080, extremely fast SSD, and 32gb of ram. Even with patch 7 i can't lock to 60fps regardless of settings. Hell, i even tried locking it to 45fps and it still stutters. The only saving grace is I didn't have crashing issues, and almost all of the stuttering is from traversal. So when you're in one area doing combat, you generally dont get stutters. At least, i didn't. It ran well enough for me in the areas that it needed to that it wasn't too bad and i was mostly able to just focus on what it does well.

Redfall was a good ideal. The setting and enemies were great ideal but they need to some fixing. The Lamplighter League. they made a melee character that is good in a cover tactical game but the rest stumble over other game play elements.

i was really disappointed in Jedi Survivor because the bugs prevented me from 100%ing it. The bounty missions wouldn't activate at all for me. Totally deflated my motivation to explore and complete other parts of the game

Forspoken surprised me in more than one way. I expected way less of it and enjoyed the characters and story way more than expected. My biggest gripe with it was how unrewarding the open world felt. The only thing I was really looking forward to was the lore rewards. But gameplay wise I had a good time with it.

I was not surprised. I knew I was going to like it… and I did even more than expected. Parkour, magic classes, and a cute, sassy character… how can you not love that? But then again I never trust reviews..

After Patch #2 or 3, Jedi: Survivor was not so bad in performance for me on medium-to-top system. Encountered three crashes through the length of the game, but nothing repeating or too serious. So it was just month or so they needed to get more adequate performance - they just released it too soon. Now in its current state it is my Game of the Year, enjoyed it even more than BG3

Forspoken had so much potential to be good. The gameplay I wouldn't say I was for or against, although I can see why some would say it felt stale after so long. The first hour or two really had me as far as the story went but after that, it began to lose me. I understand being an ass about being pulled into an entirely different world than the one you know but after so long of being the unwilling protagonist, it really got to me.
