Sad to hear that. Even with the patchs the game doesnt run well on my old Ps4. For informations I finish it +platinum on my PS5 and the game never crash. Just to say for those who would like to play it on console.

Save file bloat is a problem on PC too, except you can use a mod that clears items dropped on areas and make those safe files somewhat manageable.

To anyone still looking to play this on console: only buy it if you own PS5 or Series X, it rubs alot better on those than last gen. Another weird tip to improve performance: loot every single corpse, leave nothing on the ground, even if it's worthless. Corpses add to save file size and slow down the game.

Koch Media reported in a German-only press release awhile ago that Kingmaker has sold over 1 million copies, so I'd guess they either own Kingmaker or own the parent company that owns it.

Agreed, but the most awkward part for me is when looking and having the tooltips showing. When you press B or circle for PlayStation, it first disables tooltips before exiting the loot window. I know that this is consistent when the rest of the UI, but I think that tooltips in general should always be on and not covering the UI elements that they are describing. I hope that they patch an improvement to this over time.

I actually started my playthrough of Kingmaker with a controller. When I had covid and was bedridden I decided to plug the PC into my TV and play it that way. It wasn’t bad at all if I’m honest. I haven’t tried WoTR with controller though as I’ve had no need but I do imagine it’s somewhat similar.

Owl cat did better for wrath this time. I got the PS4 version and after the day one patch, game runs pretty well overall. Still has some bugs and the textures are set to low, but overall much smoother than kingmaker

Not sure how to feel about this one... this seems very onesided in terms of information. Usually you would have an adittional contract which literally forces you to deliver a final product and/or support unless you want to get punished. I can't see the benefit of leaving the console version of kingmaker crippled for any owner of the rights. Seems more likely to me that they couldn't agree on the terms of the continued work.... which by all means still suck but isn't a corporate-only thing.

For what it’s worth I’ve had a pretty’s table time on PS4 kingmaker. I’ve reduced my saves/auto saves/quick saves to minimal and I’ve accepted that every time I zone I roll a D20 to see if the game crashes or not. Also that SPOILERS! Irovetti fight made my poor Pro chug like Thomas the Tank Engine.

As Larian have demonstrated in spades, if a developer can shrug off the shackles of publishers or other corporate ties the only way from there is up. It's not easy to do of course, good cRPGs cost a fortune to make. But with a concurrent player count on Steam of over 10k for WotR yesterday plus the console release it is clear now that WotR has done for Owlcat what DOS1 did for Larian. Owlcat are looking at a bright future, deservedly so IMHO, and the more independence they can manage going forward the better. If Kingmaker had to be sacrificed to that end it's a bit sad but in the end it will probably be worth it, their new games will be all the better for lack of suit involvement.

If whoever owns the rights to Kingmaker now can't fix it, then they should remove it from sale. I wasn't able to finish Kingmaker on Xbox because of bugs and slowdown. I beat it on PC, but I'm still angry that they're just going to let more people be suckered into buying it on console.

I've played through the game about 4 times and logged in 620 hours, about once a year I come back to it for another full playthrough. There is one bug the didn't fix: if you play as evil you don't get some proper dialogue options at the end of the game regarding the curses, even if you did everything required. There is no specification of being evil preventing a resolution, therefor it is quite a major bug on a part that is somewhat central to your efforts throughout the game.

Being evil in that game is just overall kind of meh to begin with. Very few games do evil well, it's either just an edgy good guy or cartoonish evil.

@@CrystallineLore Lawful evil is quite playable and functional, but chaotic evil doesn't make much sense. I played my last game as lawful evil and it was interesting. For example, you get to keep the Oculus and double the duration of your buffs, you get to see what else can happen if you side with Surtova or take Vordakai as your advisor (mostly minor advantages).

You can still maintain that alignment and also choose other options, it doesn't change all that drastically. I personally prefer Neutral Evil myself, but I really liked the esthetic of peasants impaled on spikes in my barony as Chaotic Evil.

@@Dan-uf2vh Lawful evil is only playable because it is and has always been one of the "cope-out" alignments. From certain perspectives, it's not even evil, but merely logical. This is a person who will realize there isn't enough food to feed two people trapped in a pit, then very calmly kill the other person and think nothing of it, or will decide to steal food from an orphanage after realizing it's him or them but not both. From a broad perspective, a classic hero would sacrifice themselves before willingly choosing to harm someone else. However, it is nearly as unrealistic as cartoonish evil for the sake of evil. Lawful Evil CAN be evil, but is rarely portrayed completely that way, and since it 's one of the more hybrid alignments, has a lot of leeyway. You can have the absolute villian that still keeps his promises, or you can have the villian that obsessed with control and regulation, like a tryant. It only works in Kingmaker because it's easy to slap "lawful evil" on logically sound and realistic choices, like the first example. You don't get to choose. Meanwhile, all the good and neutral chaotic choices (the free spirit ones) give you a wide range of flavors and have obviously been far better developed. This isn't a problem specific to Kingmaker, but all morality-based RPGs, as I honestly can't think of any that do evil well except speific pieces of WOTR and maybe Tyranny.

@@CrystallineLore Just use the definition of evil that isn't subjective within context. Resolve a problem by causing harm? Evil. Solve it in a wholly beneficial manner? Good. A mix of both? Then recognize both to their respective degrees. Also, a lawful evil actor, acting in stereotypical fashion, would not steal from an orphanage if they recognized the authority of the local governing body, nor would they kill in that particular survival situation if it would go against any order or law they feel beholden to. If they did do so, they would be acting in an unlawful, though not necessarily chaotic, manner and their actions would probably be considered neutral evil. On the other hand, if they were to believe in some sort of "Darwinian law", or otherwise not recognize said authorities or oaths... A paladin doesn't get to break their oaths and say it is lawful because it serves the good, why should a devil be able to sneer in the face of order to satisfy its own wants? One could argue that the paladin recognizes the justness of no law that allows or requires the perpetration of evil and that the devil has a greater duty to self-perpetuation and exaltation, but they would still be breaking a lesser oath in service to a greater one and thus acting more chaotic then they would probably be comfortable with. A last point, the question of the logic of self-sacrifice. Self-sacrifice can be pinned down as an effective evolutionary adaptation as, historically, you would be sacrificing yourself for related individuals. Ants were not always eusocial and many apes live much more solitary lives than do humans. In this age where we are surrounded by strangers, this could be argued to be situationally maladaptive, but it isn't selected against particularly harshly.

A lot of console CRPGs are busted. Kingmaker, Wasteland 3, Disco Elysium, and Solasta all gave me problems. The biggest issue was crashing. Ports of PC games are the only PS4 games I've ever had crash on me. Wasteland 3 would crash every 30 minutes or so. It's a good thing autosaves are so reliable now.

Yup, and it's very frustrating. Except of Divinity Original Sin 2, which runs pretty good, all other have constant annoying crashes. I don't mind lower graphics and longer load times but data corruption and crashes should not be a thing.

This is an issue that affects Divinity original sin 2 aswell. I bought a copy for the standard PS4 and after 150+ hours on the last chapter the performance just drops completely. Loading screens were taking over 3mins and sometimes when I opened the menu the game would freeze for a couple of seconds. I loved DoS 2 but I never got finish it 😭😭.

Dude, that's Chimera Squad for me right now. I went from bouncing off of it due to the tone and T rating, but now the game just refuses to run longer than a minute without crashing and verifying integrity does nothing. So I went full hipster and emulated Berwick saga. So much early game RNG it's scratching Xcom itches I didnt know i had.

This game made me switch to pc and say the PlayStation goodbye forever. I finished it a few times already, I love it. It was unplayable on ps4 pro. I bought it two times for ps4, first on disk, that was a bad mistake. My PS4 couldn't even read the disk, the drive didn't stop spinning, I couldn't even get the disk out. I thought my disk was broken... Until I searched the Internet and read that many people had this problem. I tried it a few times and gave up then bought it digital because I desperately wanted to play it.. It was not a wonderful experience. It was like the ps4 couldn't handle it... Slow downs, freezing and stuttering. The game is badly optimised, even for pc. It has unexplainable slowdowns. I love the game though.

I own Kingmaker for PS4 and it was relatively stable all things considered. Granted I only got up to Varnhold Vanishing. I wasted too much time on the kingdom manager so Cyclops zombie guy auto game overs me. The only issues I met were portraits not displaying and long load times granted I expect that last bit.

WotR is based on the same code base. As in they took the engine and tools they had with Kingmaker and made WotR. The problem is that they can't backport whatever improvements and fixes they made from WotR to Kingmaker since they don't own it anymore.

Cuz i want to play thr sequel but i like to play these things in order cuz my head cannon its the same characters blood line or something they created a group like the chantry from dragon age. That sucks... I really really like the game, but it keeps crashing on PS5. I'm about 65 hours in and I was just at the Goblin Camp during Season of Bloom then after finishing and trying to exit boom crashed on me.. I got really annoyed because it happens regularly. I seem to have bad luck with these kind of games lol. With Pillars of Eternity the game just hangs on the loading screen for me now after putting around the same amount of hours into it. It just gets me fed up and not want to return to the game or try another one because I only have like 3 hours to play after work. Almost 2 was spent in that damn camp!

That’s awful. Owlcat spent so much time, money, and memories making Kingmaker, and then just got it plucked from them. Entirely unfair. I don’t understand how the affairs with different companies works, but it seems to me unreasonable to have just cut off Owlcat completely. Interesting. It makes sense for sure. I played it on PC so can’t speak on console port but, them splitting and not mentioning it to the public probably has something to do with DeepSilver (or whoever) not wanting to effect any potential sales. Not that I can imagine it was selling noticeable amounts within the last year or two. Thankfully all of this didn’t dissuade Owl Cat from making a second game and continuing to fix and release content. Because as we all know, WoTR is a much better game over all.

I played 10 hours so far on ps5 and not a single crash. Only bug was minor at best (can't even recall exactly what it was). Textures are lower than PC but thats a literal non-issue for me.

That's a shame honestly. That said even if they had the rights to Kingmaker the game would probably suck on consoles anyway. For some reason nobody except Larian, the guys from Disco Elysium, and a few others here and there know how to port CRPGs to consoles, 99% of CRPGs on console are a complete disgrace, almost to the point of being a scam. And so far Wrath of the Righteous on consoles is following the same trend, from what I read in the fixed thread. I'd love to play Wrath on my PS5 but reading stuff like "the further you get in the game the more crashes starts to happen and more bugs show up" is very disheartening. The video game industry is one of the very few that get away with selling literally broken products and face no consequence. If Apple sold broken Ipads that stop working and start to glitch out after 30 hours of use it would be an outrage, stocks falling, lawsuits etc.

I tried playing it on my base xbox one console and it was awful. It felt like the game ran in slow motion. It seemed better on the new gen consoles, but I never got into late game so who knows.

That's really a shame for those with the console version. I actually won the console version from Owlcat on Twitch but held off because the game is pretty hard for me to learn. I guess its best not to ever go to it now.

@@marcusceltic Thought you were talking about Wrath. Kingmaker Works it just gets a little buggy in the middle of the game, I haven't completed it myself but I've been told you can reach the end of the game just fine, it just depends on your overall tolerance towards dealing with a few bugs.

Kingmaker is great, but will probably crash several times during the gaming session. WotR has a weird bug where you can see the character select or the use, drop, etc when in either inventory or equipment. You can still select characters or use the items, you just have to remember the order. Closing and restarting the game fixes this at least. So Save often.

I don't get how a game can be great on PC and terrible on console these days (or vice versa). I mean, I don't know anything about the Nintendo Switch, but the PS4 and 5 and all the new Xboxes are essentially PCs. Why are there often technical problems? Corporate BS aside, you'd think a game that runs on a modern PC would also run on a modern console.

It depend on if you're okay with 30 FPS average performance or if the console you're comparing with the Steam Deck is last gen. If you have a PS5 or Xbox Series X, then I'd say get it on one of those rather than Steam Deck unless you really want it portable.

This is why I’m hesitate to buy wotr kingmaker had so many problems I gave up because after my saves got corrupted 12 times I finally got all the way to pitax but the game kept crashing every time I fought that ogre boss before the king the last straw when I actually killed him which I struggled with the game crashed and I would’ve had to fight him again
