I just wanted to follow up on this with the release of the Godwoken Graphic Novel from Larian themselves. I can confirm now that I have it in my hands, that it contains no new information about the God King we don't already know.

The game *does* actually tell you how the God King got his powers when you eat void-tainted limbs as an elf. Vaguely it describes how he was led on by the seven in approach of the veil. He seemed to know vaguely what it was but the cat was out of the bag I guess because the memories clearly describe him being near it with the others. As he examined it, they drained it and created the hole. Before he could react, he was hurled into it. Betrayed. That's why he loathes them so much. I think that also confirms he was not part of the war against the Eternals, he wasn't there for it anymore. So one must assume his people were flung in after him. Then it describes his choking fear at the deafening silence and lack of light and emptiness. It's really well written. But with time, that place turned from strange and alien to familiar. There was nothing in the void except him and his *will*. So he seems to have seized command of it. There's a very clearly written bit where he becomes one with the void, and no mention of any other being there. The guy *was* king of a race of super beings so it makes sense his will was strong enough to find a way. So his immense power stems from having mastered a power nobody else has, and that eclipses any other magic, source or otherwise that exists. I like that idea a lot. Guy's a stone cold badass, kept away from Rivellon only because he needs source to manifest and doesn't have any.
@MortismalGaming3 жыл бұрын
Void tainted fish give you all that information, I'm aware of it. It's too vague to be super useful though, it's cool to see it from his perspective so to speak but it doesn't really answer any of the more specific questions, and doesn't rule out the existence of other beings in the void either etc.
@Aedrion-3 жыл бұрын
@@MortismalGaming I thought it was quite revealing, actually. The seven tricked him and caught him off guard, he was the first to be thrown into the void, he was alone, surrounded by nothing and made that nothing his own. These aren't really up for debate. The idea that something else lives in the void is not impossible, but isn't hinted at anywhere at all in DoS2. I suppose DoS1 tells us it's home to the void dragon but there's no clues or anything about it in this game.

@@MortismalGaming Fane's endings both has the eternal returns, both showed a family of Eternals looking pretty normal and happy, suggesting that the whole "Void taints and devolves all beings" is kinda like a lie that the Gods and Dallis say to manipulate the Godwoken, which makes perfect sense since that Gods are sorta lying assholes. When you think about it in such a away, the Void may aswell just a dimension of vast emptiness, like a blank sheet of paper, Rivellon is something that was drawn in the middle and the veil barrier(Source) is the outliner. Nemesis exists out on itsown, beyond the paper.

In other words the 8 barons overthrew there already powerful god and became gods themselves but by banishing the god king they basically made him stronger and now there scared and need there creations help to save them from him If you think about it the 7 gods are the reason voidwoken came to rivelon and the god king is basically a god that got stabbed in the back by his lords

@jacobfreeman54442 жыл бұрын
My guess is living beings continually feed source to their god. Thus having living followers is preferable to dead ones. When someone dies they no longer produce source. That is all there is. This may be why the gods were constantly trying to grow their following. Kinda like Lohse's demon and souls. He didn't kill any of them, did he? Why, if the power he can strip from them that one time would be enough? So it can't be enough. He had to be farming them for the source they produce while alive. And this must be what the gods were doing.

This is something I was looking forward to, thank you! I wonder; is there any piece of lore that confirms that the Ranaar and the eternals are the same race? In the Divinity engine the Eternal architecture assets are labelled 'Raanaar' and in the 'Godwoken' graphic novel we can see that they look very similar if not identical to the Raanaar people.

@@MortismalGaming Indeed, I figured it might be an artistic change, some appearances vary greatly across games. Demons and the Void seem to not really get along, at least that was the case for the 2 most noteworthy demons in this game and their followers. It stands to reason that the same should (or at least could) also be true for Chaos and the God King. The most likely explaination would be that the demons don't like the Void taking over their turf and consider the 7 races "their" playthings, not the Voidwokens' food.
@pewpewsalote88026 ай бұрын
I think its safe to say that the god king and chaos would not get along, as lord chaos was part of the 8 who rebelled and threw him into the void in the first place.

Do you have the Godwoken Graphic Novel? I'm sure there's lore pertaining to the god king in there. Also where are you getting this demon god chaos stuff? The only place I read that the demon god is an 8th Eternal is from the wiki yet I didn't see any citation from Original Sin 2.
@MortismalGaming4 жыл бұрын
I'm waiting on it to show up. Once it does I'm gonna do the origin characters background. All the chaos stuff comes from the first few games, all of their recent games don't touch on chaos at all outside of Damien's existence

@@MortismalGaming I know that about the original games lore but it's a complete assumption that the god of demons is actually an eternal just because the seven - who are different gods - used source.

It's conversation you can have with zixzax (in Divine Divinity), and he says 'one of the gods' when he's talking about it. So either hes an eternal or something else entirely, but until they write that in, eternal is the safe bet.
@LN.22334 жыл бұрын
@@MortismalGaming Zix isn't in Original Sin 2 where Eternals were introduced into the franchise and you already had Astarte from Original Sin which wasn't an Eternal yet was the goddess of source and also younger than the seven.
@MortismalGaming4 жыл бұрын
But zix is in Divinity 2 which is set after DOS2, and yes Astarte is something else which is why I admit there is a possibility they will write in something else for Chaos, but until they do it's the safe bet he is an eternal given the way he is spoken about. Larian themselves have admitted their are holes they need to fill in, and when they do so will I. Until then that's the lore as it stands regardless of the holes that can be poked in it (which I often agree with people, definitely exist) 🤷

I think becoming Divine is best ending. All three endings have a limited time frame for bringing the world peace and prosperity. Someone will rip open the Veil again; people will fight over Source; or your grandson will turn out to be a dick. But perhaps as divine you can live a long, long time. It's very interesting to hear that the Eternals may have chosen their current state in order to survive. That implies they had the option to die. If so, there goes any sympathy for their eternal suffering. Now, it's the God King prolonging their misery. Who, or what, could be behind the God King? Is it a person or a blob of dark matter? Is the God King related to the Void Dragon from the previous game? Or the Trife? Trife was a pretty cool concept, as though some universe-creator millions of years ago had a curious thought, a trifle. It's as though existence itself hinges upon someone's initial pronouncement of "what if" into the void of space. That gave birth to the Trife, but as new possibilities opened up, the Trife was forgotten. It probably didn't like that.

What seems to be the case is that when You are faced with the problem of creating a story around some epic stuff, like demons / angles/ ascention / gods / souls etc... You absolutely need some external regulator, to make good villians and at the very least to dodge the cringe factor. Now for divinity this regulator is the source. For diablo it was the soulstone. I am curious what Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous's regulator is going to be. Because without regulator, you will end up with a story like 'We are devils and we are evil. We are evil, because muhahaha we want to destroy you! Fight us!' Which might be a nice story telling for 8-year olds, but if You want to get at least 4/10 on story score, You have to do better than that!!! Larian nailed it. Even tough there are some plot holes in the story, I very much enjoyed it. The villians were not one-dimensional and there was a lot of room for gray areas. Highly recommend DOS2 !!!

Could you try to explain / tie together and see if there's any relation between Void Dragon from DOS1 and the actual God King / Void in DOS2? @LN.22334 жыл бұрын
There isn't any connection. A large part about Original Sin's lore - specifically Source and the void - are retconned in their mechanics and portrayal in Original Sin 2. In Original Sin Source was brought by Astarte and she is younger than humanity and the seven gods, yet in Original Sin 2 Source always existed and predated the seven gods and the seven gods were actually part of a race that inhabitated Rivellon years ago.
