Dear, Mortskie I hope you read this. I am a 49 year old physically disabled Navy vet. Among my new physical disability I am a long time sufferer of PTSD and often times I can't sleep at night do to PTSD attacks. I have found though a way to cope with it and that is by listening to your channel. You and Joe Kenda are the only 2 who have a voice that help calm me and help me through my attacks. I’ve had 6 F150’s built on that platform from 1980-1996. Had a 80, 86, 89, 90, 91, and a 92. My all time favorite was the 86 super cab long bed lariat, had every option available. Wish I still had it, it was mint when I got rid of it, and sadly I watched it die a slow painful death from the guy I sold it to. I saw it regularly, and everytime something new was broken from windows being broken, mirrors ripped out, tailgate folded in half. That truck didn’t deserve that. Also, some kinda useful knowledge, that power steering cooler is the only sure way I know to identify a truck with the factory tow package. Non tow package trucks have a smaller cooler that only makes one loop across the crossmember. The one with 2 loops like yours are factory tow package.

Hey Mortske, the power windows on those Ford trucks and aerostar vans and other Ford products have a design flaw, if you roll up and down the power window you might see the door outer sheet metal skin and the inner skin flex in or apart, this will eventually create stress cracks and make it harder for your regulator motor eventually burning it up so if you do replace the regulator or motor in that window be sure to check if it's expanding like that and beef it up with some extra sheet metal, otherwise you might be putting in another new motor, too quickly. There are other makes of cars that tend do that also.

27:29 as a driveability tech back in the day, I worked with those ford's extensively. Both tanks have low pressure transfer pumps to carry fuel to the fuel filter/diverter valve, a black plastic housing with a oil filter like cover to access the filter. Whichever tank was running would cause a poppet valve in the diverter to open allowing fuel flow, so your transfer switch just controlled the lift pumps. After the diverter, fuel was carried to the high pressure pump, which was under the guard that had the warning label on it. This boosted the pressure to 45-50 psi thru a pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Unused fuel was sent thru the return line. 28:36 lol, you did your research and just said everything I just wrote

My first new vehicle was a 1981 Ford F150 with the 300 six and manual 4speed with overdrive. almost 200 thousand miles on it when I lost it in a forest fire. only major work was a transmission rebuild. I still think the bullnose has some of Fords best styling. The paint issue is do to a change to the water based paints in 1985 with a really bad primer.My short box XLT had the same trim mirrors and rear bumper. I had a rare cruise control with manual transmission.PS the heater core is a supper easy change out through the glove box.

On the negative battery cable. If the dash lights are hinky there is a small wire that goes to the chasis from the negative cable. It is rated to make the dash lights work properly. You may even have to go to the dealer to properly replace this cable. I thought it was BS till someone proved it to me. Hope this is useful to you or anyone else.

The issue with paint back in that time period was the Big 3 (Chrysler, Ford and GM) decided not to prime between the ecoat (the black coating put on the bare metal panels) and paint to save money. That's why it came off in sheets. I had customers that would drive down to the local media blaster, mask up the glass and drive them back bare and begin the refinish process... And now you know and.... (you fill in the rest). Thanks Mr. M for another Monday morning pick ME up!

Wasn't there also a switch in paint formulation due to new EPA regulations? I thought I read somewhere that the EPA cracked down on VOCs back in the 80s, and that prompted formulation changes that were just not as durable for a few years.
@glennnickerson83252 жыл бұрын
@@pheffr There were some changes Paul but that was mostly solvent and clearcoat formulations. Paint really didn't change much (although lacquer was going by the boards). Enamel was basically the same and basecoat was still in it's infancy for domestic manufactuers).

Was look at the engine then shut the hood and the damn car started up by itself. It was a 3-speed and had a habit of leaving it in reverse to get the shifter out of the way, so when it started by itself it went down my father in law driveway which was a down grade. It went straight down the driveway, crossed the road and started going on bro the cornfield. Finally caught up with it in the 6 or 7th row This is a true story. It happened in 1974.

That's a great truck - seems like it has tremendous upside potential. I'm surprised you want to sell. Anyway, great video, and I'm hoping my wife took the hint to get me a Mortske Shirt for Christmas.

That truck turned out pretty nice. I like the choice of black wheels on it

Lol this brings back memories. I bought an '85 shortly after high school grad. Mine was just a regular F1 fiddy carburated. Of course I had to yeee haw redneck it up. Big tires dual exhaust megaphone tips. Had a Copenhagen brand spit toon mounted to the transmission hump. Performance was mediocre but it was LOUD and had big tires. What's that? What happened to it? Well that about when wifey came along and we decided it wasn't practical anymore and got rid of it. Realized years later that wives don't actually have your best interests in mind. Loved that truck though

I am very surprised that you put all the time and effort into this one and are willing to pass it on to the next owner. Thought for sure it was going to be a backup tow pig. It's no coincidence that GM makes spare parts for a Ford. All in all, a great tutorial for how to groom a revival and make it safe and reliable. Duff looks pretty happy sitting on that bench seat just staring out the window living his best life! Thanks for the content and your commitment to keep us entertained.

Awesome memories of my Dad's 85 F250 diesel, as a kid it seemed invincible. I heard that thing fire up at 4:30 am for years to warm up before he went to work.

Thanks for the Ford content even if it's not your favorite. I have a 75 F-150 that I'm trying to restore, my dad bought it in August of 74. He kept it but bought a bullnose in 1980 and a bricknose in 1988. He also bought a super crew F-150 in 2003 but sadlly he passed in 2005 from cancer.

Just a heads up since you mentioned it was shifting into third at low speeds. If the TV cable setup on these is similar to the 302/AOD in my Mark VII, the rubber grommet likes to wear out. It gets out of adjustment and it’ll take your trans out. They sell brass bushings on eBay for like $10

I kind of like the way it looks with that patina, fix the rust just enough to make it sturdy and primer the roof and it would look great. My dad had an 80 F-150 XLT Lariat Super Cab with bucket seats and a console, it had the 351. He drove it till the Bricknose came out in 88 and we used it as a company truck for about another 4 years.

Brings back some memories.. Dad had a baby blue 86 F150 very similar to this minus the 4x4. All of us kids used it as a first vehicle. Which was fun since dad frequently used it to move the cows out of the way. That 5.0 would spin 'em good but was dog slow. It's still setting on the farm with 85k ready to be revived in a couple years.
