Christmas was more the combination of two holidays. Yule, which the northerners practiced during the winter months (which is where odin would travel from home to home during the wild hunt and give good people gifts) and the second holiday is saturnalia which was a roman holiday also practiced around the the time of the winter solstice as was designed to honor the god Saturn and bring about a good spring.

Also - Christmas was put on December 24/25 to cover up specifically the Saturnalia. Yule and many other holidays were just side-effect. Mostly because - it was done during times when Christians lived in Roman empire. It's just a logical effect that all those others holidays were covered up as well - become all of them happen on the Winter Solstice. It's the shortest day in the year, so it makes sense people put special days on that date. Second reason why we celebrate Christmas in December, is the fact that we really don't know when most of the holidays would happen, aside crucifixion and resurrection - because those are noted in Bible to be close to specific Jewish holidays. And because that takes spring for much more important holiday that is Easter - putting other important holiday opposite to it in winter makes sense. So the second reason - is pragmatism, you can't celebrate everything around the same time. It is notable that modern understanding of the Bible, tradition and history points that its more likely that Jesus was born in spring or autumn, to fit the times when shepherds would be available to fit the story and the time when the census would have happened.

As a Native, *yes that's what Thanksgiving is about.* The "Indians" he refers to means Native Americans, and it's basically a holiday about being thankful for genocide. Technically I'm Canadian, and our Thanksgiving isn't even on the same day, but the difference means almost nothing to me. Not only do I have family on the US side, but Mounties have basically done slavery (legally they were adoptions) and concentration camps *for children* to my fuckin Grandma's generation.

Just to be a buzzkill, yea the wage gap doesn't really exist. That "70cents on the dollar" number doesnt account for ANY factors. It's all working men vs all working women. Regardless of job, hours worked, experience, accolades, etc. That's a ridiculously inaccurate comparison. I think male vs female accounts for like 5cents per dollar difference at most. There's also personality traits that make. Men are typically less agreeable and more likely to request a raise.

This is probably the weakest episode of the first couple of seasons. Overall the first 3 seasons are very consistent with mindfuck episodes. Season 4 and 5 have few bangers but more hit or miss. Season 6 seems to be getting back on track.
