Something I noticed is that while yes the hole apparently feeds off your fear, it's not cruel in that it forces you to Confront your fears. Everytime Morty's fears got too much for him, the fear Hole had "Fear Rick" come in to save him. It's quite literally Exposure Therapy. Subjecting the person to their fear without overdoing it to help them overcome their fear.
@praneshraghavendran21299 ай бұрын
that was not the point of the Hole at all lmao. it isn't some therapeutic experience designed to help people overcome their fears. the Hole feeds on the person's fears and their response to it by subjecting them to this fear. the Hole didn't have "Fear Rick" come to save him, the big reveal in the episode was that Morty's true fear was that he isn't really irreplaceable to Rick - he's expendable and if something were to happen to him, like if he was to jump in a Hole and never come out, Rick would simply watch and move on. The Hole is feeding on Morty's fear of abandonment and Rick coming in to save him is a manifestation of Morty's over-reliance on Rick.

I really like the tragedy of the situation. It's not just that Morty feels like Rick doesn't care about him or sees him as replaceable, it's the fact that he's wrong but Rick never says or does anything to show it. The only way this can be resolved is if Rick makes his feelings clear for once. We all know how much he loves Morty, but not only does all the proof of that happened away from Morty's view, but most of their relationship has just been Rick hammering in how little he cares. Even if it's a complete lie Morty has every reason to believe it.

honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if the series ended with either Rick or Morty jumping into the Omega Device to save the other - whether Morty jumps into it to kill Evil Morty, or Rick jumps in either to stop a villain, or to kill Rick Prime (in the event he somehow returns) i don't know why, but this episode in particular kind of made me feel a bit stronger about this potential ending, plus the narrative choice of keeping such a weapon around in the first place

Wow. The thought that Rick might care enough about morty to save him from the cycle and give Morty's actual freedom kind of made me feel some type of way. The cut to black upon conquering a fear and rick climbing out and being genuinely scared. The reveal that Rick truly does have more fear than anybody. I think that by the end of the episode, Rick and Morty have essentially traded places. Morty knows that Rick sees him as replaceable and now fully believes that he's on his own. Throughout the series Rick has been throwing the fact that he can just get a new Morty in Morty's face. The universe seems to insist on reminding him of that fact- and in this finale we see Morty accept that fact and move on. He doesn't worship Rick or see himself as essential. Tragically, this happens right around the same time Rick realizes just how much Morty means to him. That he's not replaceable because of their bond. Morty is HIS grandson, same universe or not. I really hope we get to see Morty becoming more independent and how that changes the dynamic.

@mariiiiiiii22618 ай бұрын
I've been watching your vids for a while and they're always so good so thanks for another great one. I think I interpreted the hole segments a bit differently though because it seems like they can all boil down to the same concept that Morty thinks he is replaceable and useless to Rick. Diane Segment: I think Morty, more than being scared that Diane will come back, is afraid of Rick finding his "perfect match" and forgetting about Morty. While the Diane we see could've been what she was really like, I think she stands as a reflection of all of Morty's insecurities surrounding Rick, she's that person Rick WOULD'VE loved. She's the exact opposite of how Morty thinks Rick perceives him. She's confident, when she's arguing with Rick, we can see her force him back down from the "I'm always right" stance, while Morty usually gets insulted into submission. She's independent, she had an interesting life before Rick (as some cool government agent), while Morty has been told by Rick that he'd be nothing without him. She doesn't over-think things to the point of messing everything up, like with the ducks, as opposed to a similar instance when Morty (in the Mind Blowers) gets the ability to hear animals and they have to switch realities. And she's fun, she can match Ricks drinking and party hard, while Morty is always shown to be the party pooper (although he's mostly just keeping Rick in check). It's interesting because Morty actually shares most of those qualities with Diane and Rick knows that and respects him for it but for the first 5 or 6 seasons Morty is told the exact opposite, and he thinks he's not worthy of being a real partner to Rick. So, he thinks that as soon as someone better comes along Rick won't hesitate to ditch him. Short hole segments: All of these are basically about Rick not wanting to push his dumb pride aside and resulting in them getting stuck forever because Morty thinks he can't get them out without Rick's help. Again, Morty sees himself useless on all their adventures without having Rick to guide him even though that's not actually the case. Also it shows that he never expects to be respected by Rick, because Rick is mocking him through the whole ordeal. Jerry Segment: This is the other major side of Morty's fear of his dependance on Rick. While Morty is afraid of being abandoned, he is also afraid of maintaining the status quo for the rest of his life. It's important to understand that although Rick and Morty aren't actually in a romantic relationship, their "adventure partner" relationship is frequently paralleled to one and as individuals, Beth has been paralleled to Rick as Jerry has been to Morty. Beth is strong and independent; she thinks she doesn't really need Jerry, so she's mean to him. To her, he's useless and annoying, and the minute he fucks up too bad she can throw him out. Meanwhile Jerry is useless, too dependent on all Beth provides for him and too comfortable in his position to actually try to make something of himself, but his self-worth is through the floor, and he just has to sit there and take being the family's punching bag. This might not be the case, but this is how Morty sees his parents' relationship and he's afraid of emulating them with Rick. So, the montage starts off nice, he goes to college, gets a job, buys a house, just like his dad, but then we see him derail. He loses his job, stays at home with no wife or kids, and quite literally becomes a Jerry. During these scenes Rick is almost always there doing his thing, dragging Morty on adventures, maybe buying that house with him, and probably insulting Morty every step of the way. But while we see that Rick respects Morty a lot more than Beth respects Jerry and is working towards being a better person, Morty doesn't get that yet. He's afraid he'll always be useless and have to desperately cling onto Rick while being treated like shit for the rest of his life. Final Segment: After all that happened, it finally clicks for Morty when he's given what he's always wanted, to be told he's irreplaceable and valued by Rick. This is the moment Morty gets over his fear because he realizes that he'll never actually get that confirmation. It's relieving because Morty finally accepts that no matter what he does, Rick will always be Rick, and he can't force him to stay or value him. He also realizes that while he has to end this adventure by himself, he had also made it through the entire adventure by himself. It forces him to come to terms with hisself-worth, because whether things with Rick get better or worse, Morty has the capacity to think and solve problems on his own. It will be neat to watch season 8 if Rick and Morty are starting out at these two very different places. I can see Morty not understanding how Rick is changing and Rick not getting that his change isn't all that obvious to Morty, leading to a big miscommunication. I can't really predict anything for this show cuz it always seems to catch me off guard, but it would be cool if Morty starts exploring his independence more. Maybe he'd even get fed up with one of Rick's dumb insults and join up with Evil Morty for a few adventures (like the reverse situation of the two crows), leading Rick to finally get his head out of his ass and give Morty the verbal respect/recognition he deserves. I mean we all know Rick values and deeply cares for Morty, but he just won't admit it out loud and it's super frustrating lmao. Anyways sorry for the long ass comment. I dunno if it's even comprehensible cuz I'm mad sick rn and kinda loopy and I could be completely wrong in my analysis but those were just the vibes I got.

I don't like the idea of Diane seeing Rick's nihilism as a quirk to poke fun at, and that making her perfect for Rick. It's actually somewhat disappointing if that's meant to show us the actual dynamic between Rick and Diane. It's okay if it's based on Morty's mind in the hole, but the problem outside of that situation is the fact that we don't have any reason to assume that Rick had that bleak outlook on life before he lost Diane and Beth. I would hope that a writer of the show would understand that and have that in mind, but from that little clip of her talking, I'm not sure that's the case - so I have my doubts about that. Maybe Rick was dark before losing Diane and Beth, but I don't know if we have any solid proof of it. The closest thing I can think of is the other Ricks who were in the Citadel of Ricks - but those were guys who either also lost Diane, or were willing to leave her behind to be around themselves. Not a huge deal, but that jumped out to me as odd.

Sorta been thinking it’s possible there’s be a time travelling Rick because of the infinite possibilities of the multiverse and the whole parallel world shtick like there could well be a version of Rick that does fw time travel like in one universe he puts it all away in the box which opens up a new parellel one where he didn’t put it away in a box so maybe we will see one eventually

Oh my god I very much hope Morty can become more independent from Rick especially sense Rick said to summer as they were trying to save Morty from being sold that Morty is like a dog to him which I wish I didn’t hear from Rick

Do people really like the observers episode that much? It is easily the worst clip episode we have gotten thus far.

rick can bring her back by making a body for her and pulling the memory of her out of Mortys head.

Any big twists will feel.. off?… the voices worked into themselves, but I wonder what percentage was roiland?.. I know Harmon stated he’d mostly checked out but it was his original idea that Harmon helped him develop… it’s a shame, but his title card is still at the end so at least he’s still getting paid (hopefully)… especially knowing the charges were dropped.

0% unless i'm not understanding what you're saying. Justin Roiland's voice does not appear even once in season 7. he recorded lines, but none of them were used for the actual episodes.

I don't understand people being so fond of the 'Observers' episode. It was meh.
