I’m pretty sure I have the Amazing Digital Circus figured out! Now I know that’s crazy since this show only has 2 episodes out and has barely got the ball rolling on worldbuilding but I believe there's already tons of hints on ESCAPING the Digital Circus, how to cure abstraction and what the main message of the show truly is! With Gooseworx admitting this series’ inspiration was the short story, “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”, alongside how Pomni claimed to put on a headset before entering the circus in the pilot, I’m guessing we could be looking at a U.S.S. Callister situation. For those that don’t know, it’s an episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror where a spiteful game developer creates his own private server of an immensely successful MMORPG space game, think World of Warcraft meets No Man’s Sky. Anyway, the guy makes his own server more like a Star Trek show where he’s in complete control. Only thing is that he uses a device that can create A.I. copies of real people with just DNA samples like hair or saliva. He makes life-like conscious copies of those around his real world workspace to do with whatever he pleases in the Digital Star Trek world, whether to torment or to have pleasure himself. He demands them to play their part while he wields god-like power over them. While I doubt there’s a similar DNA sampler machine in Digital Circus, that fact that everyone had put on a headset to get in(direct access to the BRAIN)is concerning. That would be enough. Maybe Pomni really is the key to saving everyone, but it’ll either end the way of U.S.S Callister or it’ll be more like No Mouth. It’s still up in the air how things will go down but I don’t think Caine is the final boss. Rather instead it may be whoever PROGRAMMED Caine.

I've seen a theory bouncing around that the Performers... are brain _copies_ of the people that put on the headset. The "real" them is still out in the real world, while a _copy_ (missing fragments of memory data due to imperfect uploading, such as their name) is imported into the Circus. Caine isn't lying when he says there's no exit, because there _really_ isn't, the Performers are as not-real as Caine himself and they literally have no bodies to return _to_ because the "real" them never actually left their body. They just have Player status because, unlike the NPCs (RIP Gummigoo), they weren't _created_ by Caine/the Circus, they were instantiated using "real" minds as the data template.

I had JUST theorized that in the comments when I read this! Also, MatPat himself theorized that maybe the cast we see aren't the real people, but just AI copies of their consciousness posted in the game world. If that's true, I wonder if they're being used as test subjects by whoever made Caine and the game, or for something more sinister.

The biggest difference between One One and Caine is that One One is a masterful architect and engineer, creating each car with a specific purpose and solution. Caine is a game designer, and a bad one at that. He has unfinished locations, objects clipping and falling out of bounds, and not being able to tell the difference between player characters and NPCs. The game is broken because Caine isn’t doing his job right.

I'm not sure about this one. The circus has to have existed for a long time, enough for multiple people to go insane (which isn't a quick process). In all of that time, I doubt Pomni is the first person to engage with the adventures, even Ragatha takes the adventure seriously despite not being new. To me it's more likely that the players used to do the adventures properly, but after years of repetition with no hope to escape they just stopped caring.

Nope. It's not Infinity Train. It's much much darker for our characters. The Digital Circus is an Isekai crossed with "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream". These humans have been unwittingly copied, uploaded by whatever headset they put on, and without most of their memories. There's no getting out. And that's the realization Pomni has when she's running through the offices, even if she consciously doesn't know why. And it's why that same desk and vr headset is shown at the end of the first episode, not with a person stuck unconscious in it, the user left, and Pomni and the others, are copies in their new digital world.

Be neat if a later reward in the season is actually for lack of a better term a wish from Caine, be neat to see what each of the cast would wish for(obviously they can't wish for anything, but anything within Caine's power) like for example Pomni asking for Gummigoo back. Or Ragatha getting Jax permanently banned from her room.

I have a thought. I think that Jax ended up there because he hacked in and ended up stuck. His "key finding" ability can't be ignored. His body/avatar itself could technically be of an NPC that became conscious due to his own hubris. He regularly shows his disdain for other "people". He also ends up playing the pivotal role everytime (So far. As of only two episodes.) that separates Pomni and the rest. Why bother caring for fakes after all. I also have a thought that Pomni is one of two humans there. In every program/game there exists a developer zone. So couldn't Caine just go to that zone to find out who is an NPC? Pomni arrived the very day that someone else "abstracted." That sounds like testing grounds that the company uses one person at a time. When one fails another is brought in. The cycle repeats. Caine's watch only sounded an alarm when Pomni was in The Void.

Bubble is probably the debug menu. Bubble is the one that cleans things up. They're always with Caine (who is running the show). They can show up in weird places whenever they want.

I'm kinda getting some soma vibes from this show. "No way out" written on the wall, the lack of memories, and the unoccupied desk with the hmd give me the impression that they are just copies of their respective original players. Also given how fucked up the show likes to be with the existential horror. It seems like a plausible direction. Kinda makes abstraction all the more terrifying too. It's not the realization that they're stuck in a simulation that brakes them. It's the realization that they literally can't exist outside of the simulation because thay are just copies of their respective players. That's the impression I get anyway.

I have a theory that the circus members weren't humans trapped in digital bodies, but they're digital clones of the humans with their minds and personalities being copied and put into various digital characters.

Interesting, though, going back to Gummigoo, I think the reason Caine destroyed him was because he accidentally destroyed a Player. The AI, afterward, put a new rule in place (nothing from the "games" may come into the circus). But, yes, I can see the similarities between all three shows.

I really want a new character to come in and be introduced as this big addition to the cast only to have them immediately abstract. I think that would be such a cool twist and show that our crew are a bit mentally stronger than they think

I think Amazing Digital Circus seems more like that style of game where it’s just a framing device for mini games. So the game cannot be beaten; it truly just exists to pass time. But that does not mean that it isn’t possible to escape necessarily (thought that would be interesting to explore).

My theory is that the people in TADS are just digital copies of the users. This is why they don't remember their names, why they're buried when they abstract instead of being ejected from the game, and, perhaps most importantly, why Caine was concerned about getting the humans mixed up with the NPCs. They're all the same kinds of entity, really, otherwise I think Caine would be able to tell just by looking at their code or something.

Or by trying to peak at their minds. If Caine can't see into the human's minds, trying to read a random value (say, "name") should be able to quickly reveal whether a given object is Player or NPC.

What about the NPC’s like with Gummigoo? I still feel bad that Caine done killed him with the Thanos snap man. Gummigoo really turned into my favorite honestly hated the ending for episode 2, could’ve been interesting to see where Pomni and Gummigoo’s friendship and empathy goes. At least maybe that’ll explored with the others in the next episode. Yeah I love the emphasis the episode is getting with us here and Pomni sorta being more open just felt her friendship really was starting to sprout with Gummigoo and would’ve liked to see more from him.

I find it interesting with how similar GLITCH Production's The Amazing Digital Circus and Cartoon Network's Infinity Train are especially with seeing how similar the aspects are. If the crew is playing the game wrong to where they're just further delaying their leave from the game itself it could mean that Pomni will be the one to figure it out. We know from episode 2 there are hints that Pomni could've been a game developer to where she knows a lot of stuff about the creation of video games when she and Gummigoo were trying to get out from underneath as the series goes on we could see her slowly figure this out. But the cure to abstraction is still unknown especially for the hope of curing Kaufmo and all the other past cast members who've gotten abstracted. As I love how well the cure to this might be friendship as I like how well this was heavily hinted at in the recent episode with all the current cast member's hands (except Jax) pulling Pomni back up from the cellar. I can't wait to see how the next episode will go in continuing this great story!

16:27 A couple years ago, I thought I had a relatively good friend group through discord, but sooner or later someone I heavily disliked began integrating themselves into it, and it lead to a _lot_ of problems, including my unjustified ban from the discord server I was most active in, compared to others, over reasons I’d rather not discuss here. That’s coming up to a full year ago at this point and I’m getting mental reminders of all the crap I was being put through. But thankfully during those years I had one other friend on discord I really got along with, we’ve vented to each other time and time again and I can definitely say I value their friendship above most other people I’ve talked to. We’ve never seen each other irl (minus a few pictures of us with our pets and such) but I’d be damn near overjoyed if we got together to do something in the future

I doubt Caine is the final boss... Yet ironically I wonder if POMNI was actually an AI made by the game to try to patch itself. Caine had gone slightly insane. There was rumors of what might happen if Caine couldn't figure out the difference between NPC and Players. Yet Pomni went through the exit, going slightly nuts and into the void... And yet she didn't 'break down' like the others. She only glitches by connecting to a glitching player. An AI made by the AI to try and patch the game together as everyone else has no memories of reality... And yet she recognized the computer and what was inside the 'exit' area. When everyone else has no memories of what lies outside the game.

I have a theory that Pomni sees the exit door cos she’s literally the key to unlocking the way to escape. In the pilot ep we saw 2 different types of doors, a red & an orange one. The red one was Caine’s attempt of doing an exit door but had no knowledge of where it should go, hence the endless offices until it got to the void. Notice that the office environment shifted depending on Pomni’s mental state. Lights flickered & the hallway stretched when she felt loss/driven crazy. The void is like out of bounds game area, so there’s nothing there but cos a human mind can’t precise nothingness it could create abstraction, hence why Caine rushed to get Pomni back. Thus I think Caine’s programming is to help humans but doesn’t truly understand them, ie, their mental state. Caine literally can’t grasp an exit cos his goal is for players to have fun & players asking an exit doesn’t compute to him. The red doors also point right everytime Pomni uses them while the orange door is the only one pointing left, I think this is a detail that hints that the only way to exit is to play the game properly where as Pomni was running away from playing it at all. I think Jax is going to be a key player in a future ep, in that the whole group are going to either resent him or standup to him. (My theory is he’ll push Gangle too far & cause a rift with the others.) We then see Jax’s facade fall & learn he’s mentally in a bad place that has only been held in check cos of his coping mechanisms which were to act out at others. My theory is that Jax will start to abstract, partially turned as we see the real Jax before slipping away but it’ll be Pomni who reminds him of who he is & that despite all he’s done, she still wants him in the circus. This moment of forgiveness & acceptance will reverse Jax’s abstraction & show Pomni is the key to not only saving all the players but to also winning the game through accepting one another & themselves, something that Caine will then learn & truly understand how to prevent future abstractions & even giving players a means to leave the game, aka an exit door with the actual exit.

I laugh in the face of online friendships not lasting more than a couple years. I've known a few folks online since around 1997 or so. Met my husband online in 2001. I've met a good dozen folks I've played wow with since 2005. When you live in a place opposite your nature and can't really...go anywhere else yet...those friendships are the ones that sustain.

I've never understood, but always envied, people who can make friends with other people online; Physical contact is just such an important part of growing closer to people, to me, that on an emotional level, I can't really think of other people online as being real... Like, I obviously KNOW that they're real people, who deserve consideration, but I can't get invested in them. I find it to be basically impossible for me to do. I can remain friends with someone online, if I've already gotten to know them in person, but I can't form friendships without physically being in the other person's presence.

It will take a lot for the show to convince me that Pomni is presently a human experiencing the Digital Circus through a VR headset. The real Pomni took off her headset and lived the rest of her life. I also think the real Pomni looks like Lizzie Freeman.

Based on what you said here combined with thoughts already going through my head, I think Episode 3 will have them running some kind of restaurant together Papa Louie style where Pomni is the one who finds out the right way to complete the level and she has to get everyone on-board, but Jax will disagree and start to specifically hate Pomni. Episode four will be a haunted mansion murder mystery where at first the main group tries to stick together, but something ends up happening forcing everyone to split up, with Jax and Pomni having to put aside their differences and work together.

Jax could be evil, or whatever to the core, or he might be coping with their reality in a different way. Like instead of emotionally investing in the characters. He's keeping his sanity by treating the game and it's NPCs, like "A game". Just playing the game and having fun with it albeit in a sadistic kinda way or somethin' it would seem.

As a lover of both Infinity Train and TADC, this theory is interesting. I, personally, want to see how the show plays out by itself and just enjoy the ride, because we don't get many shows that are great like this anymore, guys! Most of them get canceled. But the theory definitely is interesting! The way I mentally squealed when Infinity Train was mentioned. And Jax being an Apex allegory is CRAZY. Though I can imagine him being good friends with Grace and Simon back in those days...

Problem. Pomni cant have successfully beaten candy canyon kingdom. She abused glitches, getting a duplicate of the truck to for the crocs. As that solution requires glitches, it cant be a dev intended solution. If they had played it properly, the candy kingdom would have gotten most of the syrup, while sharing some with the crocs. They would have compromised. The solution that Pomni got was crocs get all of the syrup, and candy kingdom gets all the syrup + gets to have a croc executed. As far as the crocs were aware, Gummigoo was being taken to be executed. Thats not comprimise, and as the croc's truck was glitched in, and thus cant be recognized properly by the game, the result as far as the game is aware is not very different from jax's solution, also remeber, it's likely that the chocolate monster eats everyone, jax did leave the gate unlocked. Pomni did not beat candy canyon kingdom, even if she thinks she did.

I feels like this theory has some holes in it. First of all, the digital circus is meant to be a old computer game, not a modern game with VR. Second, the creator said that Jax will get worse over time and not better. Third, the reason gummigoo was destroyed was because caine didn't want to lose track on who is a player and who is a npc. then you see caine lost in thought in for few seconds, implying that he did do that at one point and might have tried to destroy a player thinking it was a npc and something TERRIBLE happened. A valid reason nobody likes doing these quests that caine makes is that caine has a limited resources for quests so the quest end up so similar to each other. I can only imagine the candy canyon quest has been done before COUNTLESS times. Except the time we see it with palmi, caine decides to make the npcs more advanced than normal. You go abstract by going crazy about doing the same thing over, and over, AND OVER again. That could also explain jax's actions in the world. You know, TADC also reminds me of Maze Runner. The two main characters enter the maze with their minds erased to help the people in the maze escape. But they were also apart of the creation of the maze. I think Pomni is a developer who realized her game was going horribly wrong.

I feel like Cain is an antagonist in the same way One-One was in the "Unfinished Car" episode. Like circumstances have drawn him so far from his intended function, and something genuinely damaged him, so the version of him we're seeing now is almost a parody of itself. I wonder if we might see some lucidity at some point?

Goose works tends to like playing with absurdist themes, so theorizing about the point of the simulation will probably lead you in the wrong direction. Usually the answer to that question in absurdist art is "the world is cruel and meaningless lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

I wouldn't call it a duplicate tanker. It's a predab, a resource loaded into a scene ahead of time. When needed, it is then duplicated and placed in the desired location. So technically, the tanker the crocs stole is the duplicate.

idk whats up with ponmi, every episode she manages to exit the playable area, first the void, now the assets library. But about playing wrong, there is multiple times that they had found bugs, and potential exploits. Its common to find bugs in old games but the funny part its that if they abuse this bugs they will break all the circus like when you capture missing no in old pokemon games

I have a theory on how Caine was able to restore Ragatha and Pomni’s arm but not Kaufmo. Maybe Abstraction is the corruption of every possible line of code like in a computer, maybe Ragatha and Pomni were only partially corrupted with more than enough uncorrupted data, maybe Caine needs uncorrupted data to fix people but he hasn’t found a way to fix completely corrupted yet.

The Person I have been in contact for the longest in my lifetime, is someone from the internet (10 years + , I am 34). And we only recently actually had the money, time and opportunity to meet each other IRL. It is the biggest BS that Internet Friendships aren't real and wont last. I realized its predominantally my mom's generation and above who thinks like that, which makes sense. The Internet wasn't there back then. And especially in Germany, where I grew up in, older folks are very stern when it comes to digital advancements. Legit, in terms of that, The C-Virus did our country a favor in finally forcing us to advance a bit in that area.

I’m calling it now. Jax is an npc. An early original npc. He’s the Abel to Caines well Cane. Jax doesn’t care about others. Which is why Caine has been working on the npc’s. Has Caine even interacted with Jax? I can’t remember. Second the glitch page posted a still off Jax without his mask. His head is just eyes and a mouth just like Caine. I think that’s why he made that face when the gloinks glitched. We see Ragatha get infected by the abstraction and pass it to Pomni. I don’t think Jax can be abstracted. That also explains why he had the keys to everyone’s room, and why he didn’t fall off the truck when it was falling off the cliff.
