My father was a 1LT when he got out, but was a 12A in Germany when it was West Germany, post-'Nam. Re-mapped southern W Germany for the first time since WW2. Airborne-qualified, 9th Engineers, out of Achafeenberg (sp), W Germany. (Now we call them CEBs). We built my folks house together - he was the "foreman" over me and paid subcontractors. The only 12 series thing we didn't do together was explosive demo - only 8 pound sledgehammers for demo... but, he did mention to me as he aged, that when they built all the bridges up over the Rhine, that they had demo charges in them, preset to be blown in the event of the massive Russian tank invasion anticipated. Thankfully, those charges weren't needed. Thank you to all Army COE.
