Was a 31E for 2 years and a 31B for 10 years. This video makes it sound way better than the reality. If you get a good sized post like Fort Bragg or Hood you'll get a true/truish law enforcement experience (4 of my 12 were at Bragg). Other duty stations (like in Europe) you'll feel like a glorified security guard. If I could do it over again I would have chosen a different MOS. It's not all doom and gloom (there are sham duty stations), but with lack of manpower expect 12 hours shifts not including PT and other obligations (i.e., motor pool, barracks maintenance, mentoring subordinates, etc). You're gonna work 'A LOT' while other MOS's work a 9-5 (in garrison). So basically, you're gonna work way more hours, but get paid the same as less overworked MOS's. When you aren't deployed or in the field you have an expectation that you will get to have a somewhat normal/balanced life, but that's not really a thing for MP's. Also, gate guard duty is mind numbingly boring when you have to do it. Hope this insight helps anyone trying to decide on their MOS.

Some lesser known facts about being Military Police for Army and Marine Corps, Security Forces for the Air Force, and Master-at-Arms for the Navy: once granted with the MOS and are certified as a Military Police Officer (regardless of name for branch of service) you are officially a Federal Police Officer. You become a Department of Defense Law Enforcement Officer. There are states that accept the federal accreditation you receive. You also qualify under LEOSA (law enforcement officer safety act) which allows you to conceal carry in all 50 states and surrounding territories (I believe that is the right word lol) now you will receive a Law Enforcement ID card, and when you receive your LEOSA ID card it will state “Qualified DOD Law Enforcement Officer”. As a Military cop you fall under the Uniformed Law Enforcement branch of the DOD Police Corps. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t apply for your LEOSA, you earned it, it is your right as a federal cop. To apply you must a. Be actively serving in a law enforcement role (MP being your primary MOS) and have your commander sign off on it. Or b. Be retired law enforcement (if I remember correctly you have to be an MP for 10 years to fall under that). Stay strapped ladies and gents and continue setting the standards 🤙🏼

So I should go for Air Force for security forces? I was looking into 31B MP as I want to do/be an officer or secruity like swat or something. I want to travel the world as well so Army and Air Force are on the top of my list ahy thoughts?
@haroutdemirjian88314 күн бұрын
@ okay so I was prior service Marine Corps infantry that deployed overseas so I got a first hand look at the navy. Hear me out as for traveling the Navy is by far the best branch of service and their law enforcement is pretty legit from what I’ve seen, there is a KZbinr named Alexander just type in Alexander navy police or something like that. They have a lot more cooler law enforcement billets port side and sea side (E.I) boat teams but again like everything in the military you have to earn your spot when your new in any branch your the bottom of the barrel bitch to say the least. As for the army I’ve been in a few years (my command has been the best in my entire military service of like 12 years, my commanding officer is one of my closest friends (he was my platoon commander/leader as a butter bar now he’s a captain and our company commander) so my experience will differ but with my command I was able to get a civilian federal law enforcement career and I’m currently in Tokyo Japan for an international law enforcement mission in Japan (currently at the gym before shift lol) so it varies man but I haven’t heard much about Air Force I did some research and people don’t have the best opinion on USAF SF. Also my current command (God bless their souls) they got me slotted for SRT course (DoD SWAT school) in march to be on the SRT teams for my upcoming second deployment to the Middle East. So it all depends on what you want and how bad you want it and if you’re willing to work for it. If you have any questions add me on IG: Harout_0311 I’ll help how ever I can.

I was an MP in Germany during the 1970s. It was true law enforcement at that time, there were no contracted law enforcement civilians. There were Law Enforcement and Field MPs. Fortunately I was not a Field MP. I worked more with the German Police than other MPs. The German's had a totally different mindset. If our Police Officers in the United States were half as well trained it would be a miracle.

When I was going to enlist I had settled on either Army MP or AF Law Enforcement Specialist (1986).The Army recruiter told me I could end up being a garrison MP or Field MP (which he described as doing traffic duty in the woods). The AF had a video of SPs doing all sorts of cool stuff (lies!) so thats the way I went. Whenever I ran into MPs while working for the AF I always tried to treat them the same as my troops so if I was giving my guys meals and snacks (everybody likes a frozen snicker bar on hot days) I always got extra for any MPs posted in our areas. From their reactions i can only guess they are not always treated well.I ended up doing 21 years active and guard AF and 21 years federal with INS and then the USMS. I saw a lot more former AF SPs in the feds than I did former MPs but that’s just my experience. One of my buddies is a former MP and he runs a regional fugitive task force so it can lead to good things. My biggest takeaway from this is that the internet has really changed the game because there is so much information available before you sign now. In the 80s unless you knew somebody who was serving or had just got out you were essentially flying blind.

@MOG0311Ай бұрын
Ranger as in going to Ranger School or joining the 75th? If it's Ranger School yes, any MOS from the Army can try their hand at Ranger school. Should you pass or fail Ranger School the out come is the same, you go back to your unit, expect now you have a Ranger Tab (which means you are Ranger qualified) should you complete it, Ranger school is no joke. Joining the 75th would be an actual MOS switch, which I'm sure the Army will do if you qualify, but it's not the same as going to Ranger School because the 75th are Army Rangers and those are Special Operation dudes and that is it's own job.

@@caiolimacaldas it goes by jurisdiction. While not deployed downrange, MPs can only operate on military installations and the borders of said installations. If a civilian commits a crime on a military installation, the MPs would make an arrest. But, the civilian would be turned over to local law enforcement because the military has its own judicial system and laws specific to service members that doesn't totally mirror civilian law. On post, they typically just act like civilian cops giving tickets for speeding, running red lights, etc and answering to domestic disturbances in neighborhoods on post where service members live with their families.
